UPDATE: A number of items have been changed from what this list says, on Wed June 5. Don't buy gear on the basis of this or any other list untill the final effects are known.

stacking focus items
# Sep 12 2002 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
I am wondering about stacking of Focus Items.

Here is an example:

If I am wearing a black alloy medallion (Mana Preservation II) and have a Dustscryer's Crystal Ball (Mana Preservation II) in my Range slot does that mean that I have preserved 20% of my mana? 10% for each item? Or is there a cap to each focus effect.

Thanks in advance for your honest answer.

which item that is usable by shaman gives affliction efficiency III (the one that extends dots)? Where is it located... etc... ?
RE: affliction efficiency
# Jun 08 2002 at 12:20 AM Rating: Default
not affliction efficiency but extended affliction III ... The only pieces I see are for Int casters, are there any pieces that would fit fine for a shaman? Dots are shaman's best damage dealing spells, did we get ignored?

level change
# Jun 06 2002 at 11:20 PM Rating: Decent
I think the levels should be changed.

Level I affect spells 1 - 30
Level II affect spells 1 - 50
level III affect spells 1 - 60

At the level you can actually get the items the spells you would be using are higher than would be benefited by the items.

gives a nice degenerating scale 30, 20, 10.
RE: level change
# Jun 07 2002 at 12:00 PM Rating: Default
I agree with your suggested focus levels and with the post of Clarge. Some items are only able to get a lvl 25 or 30th and it's a lvl I items which means it was obsolete to you at level 20th.
Maybe not as much for hybrids, but clerics, wizards and the other casters are looking at a lvl I item and saying "ooo, bind can cost me a little less mana when I do use it."
The main point in this all is that a lvl I focus item that needs to be camped at 25-30th should either be a lvl 2 item or the levels should be changed as you mentioned, other wise we are looking at a 10% of your spells or less might get a benefit from a item.
RE: level change
# Jun 07 2002 at 9:20 AM Rating: Decent
Lets all be honest here, if you where to fight for these four (4) items at lower than level 20, which is possible to realisticly attain?

1. Golden Ear Stud
2. Cougar Claw Earring
3. Drake Hide Sleeves
4. Robe of The Oracle

Answer should be 1. Which now with the focus effect give you Extended Affiction 1. This is great for the less than 20 spells. But the other 3 remaining items also have effects of lvl 1. Yes, only 20 and below spells are affected. I have a BST that is not twinked in any way, soloed Snow Cougars in Iceclad and looted these wonderful mid-lvl items, but the focus effect will not even come into play unless I cast flash of light, or a spell that at my lvl will more than likely get resisted my mid-lvl mobs. Many of you Uber Super twinks will throw slander towards me for this comment, I am greatfull the SOE/VA has added a few little enchancements to game play, but I am hoping that they stop for just a second and re-vamp the lvl at which these Items are used for. Also I don't see this as a complaint, I have never complained about something given to me for free, but as a mere way to express the opinion in which, I , like you are entitled.

Just a few pieces of scraps. Food for thought
So all of you mid-lvl casters out there be ready for the Message, "Your Robe of the Oracle shimmers with energy", as you cast Garrisons Mighty Mana shock towards the Ghouls in Lower Guk, while fighting to get the Shiny Metallic Robe.

A thought occured to me. There is a mana preservation focus item that seems to reduce mana use by 10%. I thought the specialization also checks to see if mana useage is reduced for a spell. Does anyone know which would be checked first and if they stack (I assume it does)? It seems to me that the specialization does much more thatn 10% reduction when successful. So that means if specialization is checked first for reduction of mana then focus item? Other way around? Only one at a time? Intellectually curious, not that it matters too much in game.

Basically the best one wins, effects of the same basic type (like mana preservation types) don't stack. The one that gives the biggest benifit is the one that is used.

OBSOLETE
# Jun 06 2002 at 3:00 PM Rating: Default
This list is obsolete ATM since they changed a lot of focus effects on many items already. Shadel Badit Ring is now Summoning Haste II or something crappy like that, and Sarnak Arcane Fetish is changed too, which is nice =). I cant tell the right values at the moment, sorry, since VI has a power problem... servers down =(
Mask of Pulcritude, screwed and making no sence
# Jun 06 2002 at 1:28 PM Rating: Decent
I logged on today and my Mask of Pulchritude was changed from Affliction Efficiency III to Eummoning Efficiency III or something, upon some sort of tooling error that put incorrect effects on items. As if Affliction efficiency wasnt screwed enough being limited to dots, I dont even have that any more.

Yours truly, one extreamly unhappy enchanter and brief owner of an amazing mask,

I'm going to get the cirle of mist and see if it has an effeft on it.(hopes for summoning effiecency II). I must say adding these new effects to all these items that have them owns ;D

Stacking?
# Jun 06 2002 at 8:58 AM Rating: Decent
Well, it turns out a number of my items did have effects (you have to cast spells of the kind that use the effect in order to reveal it). This is the list:
Golden Efeeti Boots: Enchancment Haste II

Runed Mithril Bracer: Reagent Conversion III
Grey Flesh Gloves: Affliction Effencienty II
(and bagged items):
Blackened Alloy Medallion: Mana Preservation II
Braided Ivory Cords: Enchancment Haste II

So far, I've figured out only:
Enchancment Haste (-30% Buff cast time)

I'll have to copy and paste a posting which is rated 5.0 (Excellent) from below.

Summoning and Reanimation Focus Items:
Only works on Summoned Pets
Does not work for Charming Pets

-His Excellency Buds

Though I have doubts on some of it, and it does not include Mana Preservation and perhaps others, it seems like a decent basis for ideas. As Illina said, do NOT go buying items until we A) Understand the effects and B) They finish altering these things.

Last note: The # behind the effect is the highest series of spells it will work on. Still figuring this out myself, good luck all!

Good luck to you'll on having fun with this!

Makes more sense now. A priest caster item with focus effect for summoning skeletons? We had a good laugh over that.

Much happier with the Mana Preservation I effect, even though I think it should be MP II. Many are mid way through their 20's by the time they finish this quest, and at MP I, it only affects spells level 20 and lower. This item often lasts into the 40's for many priest type casters.

with all bard songs are of 3 sec cast time... does this means bard can cast faster?
Also do the extended range thing work on bard too? (it's nice that cougar claw earring have extended range 3)
RE: bard

Are you blind ?
All bard's songs have cast time of 3 sec and duration of less than 72 sec (except 1). So, when you see 'Only Min Cast time 3 sec, Min duration 72 sec', you already have your answer.
Items for bards could be : Extended range, Mana Preservation, and maybe Extended Enhancement ?

Obviously you've got nothing to add so why don't you keep quiet?
My observations.
# Jun 06 2002 at 1:45 AM Rating: Decent
Extended enhancement3 does not work on group buffs or mezz.(/sob KEI..)
Spell haste3 does not work on mezz or aoe stuns.
Extended range3 only gives a message when you actually cast while the mob is in the extra 15% range the item gives you.
Mana preservation3 seems to work all the time.
No dispute with anything His Excellency Buds posted just a couple he missed 8)
If anyone knows a workaround for the XEn3 not affecting group buffs please, please, post.(I didn't find out about /tgb for months so I hope there is a trick to this too)
Oh and talk about spam 8( I now get 6 lines when I cast a beneficial buff from within the extended range.Any ingame commands to lose these ??
