DAoC

I've been a DAoC player for about a year now, and i recently bought EQ. I can run DAoC on a 600 (OC'ed to 900) MHz Celeron with 306 MB PC 233 RAM, and a GeForce 2 MX 200 with 32 mb video ram, and get almost no lag, really good graphics quality, and a better crafting system. I don't care if you can't get drunk in DAoC, if you can't brew beer, or make food, because you don't NEED those in DAoC. If i wanted to waste my time and gold on food and drink, i'd play EQ. DAoC also has a few more servers and the PvP system is nicer. All this coupling with not having to find your corpse to get your @#$% back, and being able to pray at your grave to get back 80% of the xp you lost. DAoC owns EQ. Better economy too.
P4 vs Athlon
# Dec 21 2001 at 1:25 PM Rating: Decent
Why go with the Intel chip when AMD's Athlon totally outperforms the P4? Or is it that Intel users are really suffering with game play?

I am running a 1.2Ghz thunderbird, 384mb ram and a Radeon card and it SCREAMS with all quality options/chars enabled.

If Intel users did their homework, they would surely see how poor their systems compare to AMD. God forbid any p4 users dont have RDRAM installed. (using SDRAM reduces a P4's performance to 33%)

btw...I have always used Intel products untill the release of the P4.

I think there was a phone call like this in there somewhere:
"Hi Intel? This is Verant, here's the deal, you want to sell hardware, and we have a game that people are completely addicted to. You give us <insert whatever it is they want> and we'll change the game so that will run like a slideshow unless they buy your newest, fastest, most overpriced chip. . ."
Oh yeah

one more thing I feel sorry for those P4 owners who ended up getting a socket 423 chip coz there screwed as they cant upgrade unlike the socket 478 users who can,,,,,, maybe,,,, for a short time. However us AMD owners can upgrade as we want for now :)

OK Yeah the Game is P4 optimised, but surely still that is unfair. Babys you go on about getting a life and stuff but hey peeps play this game a lot and they pay money for it on a monthly basis, I dont see id or valve charging 10 bucks a month to play Quake 3 or Half Life online and their bothe fantastic games. So why arent the bugs fixed sooner and the play testing done before release. Im sure a good majority of people wouldnt be bothered about a delayed release date (damn Im still waiting for Sam & Max 2) as long as it works correctly when they install it . And yes I am still experiencing problems with my soundcard(of all things the sound is screwed up and I know others who have the sme problem to) so whats all that about. The new cat city's noob area is a stroke of genius, a really good idea, but splitting the city into zones ala freeport may have been a good idea also. Anyway enough ranting and of to play my fave game even though there are a lot of problems.

P.s. Ya may sound hypocritcal to play it but I love EQ and something needs to be done to create enjoymnt for everyone. Also if ya check out my system specs on one of the first few posts ya can probably agree that the game should nt run like a lame dog!

Thanks for reading :)

P4 upgrade
# Dec 16 2001 at 12:56 PM Rating: Default
I used to love EQ, but with all the upgrades, my computer can no loner function on EQ. Haven't they ever heard of making things backwards compatible? And yes, the P4 announcement doesn't mean you must have a P4, but I have played EQ for 3 years now, and my P3 now can't handle the graphics. If you think you don't need to upgrade your computer to play when they upgrade, you will learn the truth when some componenet of YOUR computer is no longer compatible.

Good bye lvl 49 enchantress with 250 jewelry skill, it was fun!
lol at funny ppl

Get a clue people, it says it will be optimized for P4, that does NOT mean you must have a P4. It just means that if you have one, it will supposedly run better.

It does not mean your gameplay will get worse or that you will not be able to play it on an AMD or any other chip machine, sheesh.
no play !!

On a side noe. If SOE and Intel have partnered up, then wouldnt that be the same thing the Government is going after Microsoft for? Forcing people to use their chips to play the game, when we have already got perfectly good chips? Why should we spen the extra $ on a Intel chip when our AMD works fine with everything else? Sure, some people will go ahead and get the Intel chip, and new players will probably do the same. But they will lose allot of customers if they do not make the game AMD friendly SOON!!
Again, I invite anyone that is interested in a Class Action suit to reply to this.

this doesn't mean it doesn't work for AMD
RE: UNHAPPY WITH EQ!!!

I doesn't mean it won't work for AMD users...but there is a clear problem with the AMD K-6 2 processors that is severly affecting playablity for those who have them. Horrible and unnacceptable framerates and unbelievably long zone loading times. This has been a problem since Dec 4th when lucin was released. It's not only affectin those who are using SOL, it's affecting those who haven't even installed the expansion.

Yes it "works" but it's very unplayable for a lot of people.

UNHAPPY WITH EQ!!

In many ways DAoC is better that EQ!! I have never been disconnected playing DAoC, never experianed LAG with DAoC and the game (DAoC) runs perfectly!! EQ on the other hand, ever since their "GREAT NEW EXPANSION" has had nothing but problems!! I can not play for even a min without getting disconnected. Last time I died because of it, and I can bet you any amount of money that if my body disapears by the time I am able to get on line to get it, EQ will not give me back the equipment that I had. They will say it is my ISP, whome I never had a problem with, I mean hey, I can play every other game I have without a problem. Then they will say my system is not set up for EQ. BS!! I made my computer specifically to EQ standards for the optimum playing experiance like they said, 639 megs of RAM, 1.33 GIG HD, Prophet II G Force NVIDIA vid card, Sound BLaster Live and am running DSL conection. All of these, or should I say none of them, were listed as not compatable. I am running a AMD processor, but I had no problems till now. After they started patchin all the things still wrong with their "HOT NEW RELEASE". I wonder if they are geting kick backs from Pentium to make it so people HAVE to spen more money than needed for a processor chip? There are so many people using AMD that they should take that into account. I am seriously thinking of filling a class action suit against them for delivering what they knew to be a faulty game, just so they could make big bucks before the hollidsay. I know, you are going to say that I agreed not to hold them responsable for such things. That of course is true, but I had to do that in order to play the game and find out that it is a piece of crap. I think a Lawyer would love to tackle this one. If things are not fixed SOON, then I think I will do that. If I do, I will re post here asking if anyone else would like to join in in the suit. See if that does not spark SOE and Verant into getting things fixed. I guess that the entertainment part of SOE is sitting back counting the $ they are making and watching everyone complain about how it does not work. I guess it would be entertaining if you work for SOE or Verant.

Ok for a start I dont wanna Sound Like Im boasting but I have

An Athlon 1.4
Geforce3 64MB
1GB DDR Ram
Win XP
40GB IBM Deskstar HDD
Soundblaster Audigy Live

Thats the main specs right, so why on norrath does it chug in the new zones like the Cat City in particular, its supposed to be "optimized" for Geforce3, even Nvidia have it on there website as the game of the moment. I have major problems with sound going funny on me (i.e. it freezes until I press attack) and Ive sent bug reports so why do I have to put up with this kinda rubbish and poor suprt after spending over £3,000 on a machine that runs other games like Max Payne, Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Commanche 4 at over 200 frames per second. I only get about 15 20 fps (in the new zones ) from luclin . Verant and Sony its just not good enough. (god forbid what Planetside is gonna be like)

Baggwinn

Ps dont retort with ny crap like "because its online" as I get frame raters in excess of 270 on unreal tournament which Doesnt even use T&L.!
Hehe
# Dec 14 2001 at 5:03 PM Rating: Default
I just find this funny.

I remember back when pentiums first came out, Intel had a little "Optimized for Pentium" stickers on them.

Optimized for Pentium (aka, Runs best on P4) simply means - We never bothered to optimize the bloat out of this code, so you're going to need supercomputer like processing power to run it.

Sounds like SoE got a bunch of free chips in exchange for not bothing to optimize the Client :)

What about AMD
# Dec 14 2001 at 4:34 PM Rating: Default
What about all thouse of us that have AMD, they are cheaper and better processors and now we will be punished for it. First no 95 then 512 ram now NO AMD!?!?

Folks, just take a deep breath and relax. EQ is just joining in with Intel for marketing purposes. They are NOT cutting off AMD users. Everything is going to be just fine.
