SOE Talks About the Year of EverQuest

We sat down with the full board of Sony Online Entertainment's producers to discuss what players can expect over the next few months.

EverQuest II will see its share of content this month in the form of Fabled Dungeons, releasing on Thursday, January 23. The dungeons will focus on the Kingdom of Sky expansion, including a contested Fabled Sanctum of the Scaleborn, group fabled instances for Den of the Devourer, Halls of Fate and Vaults of El’Arad and finally, raid fabled instances for Laboratory of Lord Vyemm, Mutagenic Outcast and Three Princes. “We got itemization progression with it, which will be complementary to the Tears of Veeshan expansion,” Holly told us. “There will be a lot to go after in terms of loot, and it will be meaningful to the [current] high level content.”

We asked if the team will continue to create Fabled dungeons beyond the Kingdom of Sky expansion and Holly responded “Yes! As long as players like them and play them, we’ll keep adding to them.  And we may not only move on to different expansions, but broaden the Fabled zones in an expansion we’re already tackling, like Kingdom of Sky.”

Holly went on to discuss the recent PvP update that the team committed to, expected to be rolled out “over the next month.” Changes will include the removal of procs from PvP combat, new jewelry and the ability to reset current jewelry, and opening up PvE to PvP server copies. You can find out more about the announced changes here.

A new PvP feature will be a warzone, an open world PvP zone exclusive to the Nagafen server. It is free-for-all with no timers, mounts and fast travel will be disabled, there will be virtually no NPC population aside from moving writ givers and you can find hourly contest mobs that will drop tokens, gear and more. For more information, check out Kyle “Kander” Vallee’s post on the official forums.

In the not-too-distant future players can expect to see a contested version of High Keep, a North Temple of Veeshan raid zone “which should stand the test of time, like Plane of War, but a lot less frustrating—and with really great itemization as well!”, and there will be 10 more AAs added to the cap. The player-voted prestige homes will finally come to fruition, starting with Oakmyst Forest and finally, Darklight Palace. “That’s the big stuff… there’s going to be stuff sprinkled in-between, we’re going to release collection achievements and a few other things,” Holly said. “The team is pretty tireless and working really hard to cover all of our play styles and keeps adding stuff to the game that’s really compelling.” She also emphasized that the team is committed to continuing with bug fixes and refinements in-between the new content and features.
