Horse-riding Skill

Wonder if there will be a horse-riding skill to go along with these new horses... that would be cool to see!
Sounds cool so far...

I just hope you'll be able to ride them other than in the new expansion zones.

Does anyone else think the horse whistle is very similar to the way they did it in Zelda: Ocarina of Time? Before I even read how to summon them I instantly thought of that when wondering bout how ye could zone with em.

Oh, and I hope archery will still work while moving on horse-back... driveby shootings here I come!

Seems I recall reading that you could have multiples (to aid in corpse recovery) but I'm not at all sure how that would work.

As to pack horses, no. I've heard that horses will add speed and appearance ONLY. No added "pack" ability.
Horse Whistle

So is the whistle no drop or would this create a market on horse whistles?
Skins?

So if you want to use the horses in the old world (As I suposed they will be useable there...) Do you have to adopt the stupid looking graphics scheme they have proposed for Luclin? Or is there a "Old World" scheme for them?

I'd assume that you'd have to use the Lucin Graphics Scheme...I don't think they are going to go retroactive on any of the new developments.

First, I suspect you'll be able to summon your horse in any outdoor, non-dungeon, non-city zone.

That includes West Commons for example.

There will be people in WC who don't have Shadows of Luclin, or even the system power to run the SoL graphics engine. I'd be willing to bet it won't look to them like you're levitating. On the other had, it might look like you are running extra fast.

On the other hand, maybe people without SoL will see your horse in some way? The original everquest engine won't support the high poly count of the horses in the screenshots. Verant would need to create scaled down horse models to fit into the existing engine. Worse than that, they'd have to somehow fit each original racial model onto those horse models. I just don't think it'll work.

Shadows of Luclin will offer the option to run the updated graphics or the "retro" look we all know so well. You will also have the choice to choose another face if the one you have does not suit you in the new grapic look. Horses will have a scaled down graphical counterpart for those who do not have a big enough computer to handle the new graphics. When your computer asks for the information from the server, it only recieves one type of coding. Your computer, having both types of files in the EQ folder, determines which graphic to use. i.e. new or retro look the old look may not be as impresive, but it is all there. Hope this helps

The horses

Horses will not be faster than SoW. They will be just as fast or only as fast as JBoots.

Any race/class can ride them. However, larger races will get larger horses, smaller races ponies, etc.

Casters must stop their horses before casting spells.

Horses will not be allowed in dungeons/cities (for obvious reasons).

Horses cannot be dispelled or even targetted.

You will have to buy a whistle in Luclin. This will summon the horse (they disappear when you zone).

A player with a horse will NOT have an advantage over someone without a horse.

If the horses run at jboot speed, i'm pretty certain that will give people who have horses an advantage over people who don't.

... and people with SoW to not need a horse (except for looks).
So, who can ride..and where?
# Sep 06 2001 at 5:54 PM Rating: Good
Can anyone ride? And more important, can you only ride in Luclin????

I'm thinking of food costs not for the horse, stable costs..I need more money!

Will horses be faster than SoW?

Will horses be faster than SoW or Wolf Form? As a Druid I must know.

Per everything I've read, no. The higher leveled (priced) horses may be equal, but Sony will not be removing the value of the druid's ability to SoW.

Also, they're supposed to be extrodinarily expensive. Even if they were faster, poor characters would still need SoW to aid them.
