Grobb Overthrown

Rarely does Everquest go through major changes. Even though new expansion add content, very rarely do players witness a fundamental alteration in territory they are already familiar with. There have been some previous events, such as the cleansing of the plague in the Karanas, or the revamp of the Temple of Cazic Thule. Currently the world we know is going through some drastic changes in preparation for the new expansion Legacy of the Ykesha. Recently any new trolls created found themselves starting in Neriak rather than the familiar Grobb. This lead to rampant speculation as to what was happening in the troll city. Then the answer came. Across servers players were called to arms as hordes of frogloks poured out of Guk and laid seige to Grobb. The guards on the outside of the city were slain as the frog horde moved forward. Eventually every NPC in and around Grobb was dead, as well as several players who chose to fight on one side or the other. Then, to the surprise of all assembled, Grobb despawned entirely and then froglok merchants, trainers and guards began to appear and it became obvious to everyone there that due to the onslaught the unthinkable had occured. Grobb had fallen. As for what this means to players, it appears that everyone who was bound, or had camped out in Grobb has been moved to Neriak, where the displaced trolls have set up their home. Likewise all new trolls starting in the game will begin in Neriak. Thus it appears that the newly revamped Grogg will be used as a starting zone for the new Froglok characters. Taken from the Everquest site:
Only days before, they had walked from the murky comfort of Innothule, bringing with them a message from their god. The elders waited for them in the glow of Guk's stony mouth, anxious yet unaware of the dramatic change they were about to discover. The firepots' aura met the first of Mithaniel's chosen as they stepped out of the water's dark grasp and made their way ashore. The elders were mesmerized. Their eyes were transfixed on the glory that their lord had bestowed upon their fellow citizens. Still, the fully transformed frogloks seemed natural, though the evidence of their blessings was far from subtle. They were, after all, merely an evolution; a reminder of the power that the heavens hold over the mortal realm. Within hours of their return to Guk, the chosen of Mithaniel moved frantically to prepare. Several days of prayer, fasting, and planning allowed them to convey the urgency of their visions to the elders and citizens of Guk. They had emerged from the swamp with not only a new form, but also a plan for what would become a new age in the annals of froglok lore. They had been given a clear vision of conquest: Grobb would fall beneath them. Weakened by the loss of their relic and the disappearance of their greatest heroes, the citizens of Grobb sat unaware in the morning gloom. Their minds were on the ocean and the black waters that were swallowing their kin, a crucial distraction for the interlopers' plans. The trolls of Grobb were wading through the quicksand of despair, blind to the final blow that was gathering in the shadows just outside their city's gates. Not unlike the froglok elders, the Bashers were mesmerized when their eyes first caught sight of the faces that emerged from Innothule's waters. However, the enthralling sight was not glorious to them, but rather a horrific vision. The first thoughts that came to them were of their god. An epiphany occurred simultaneously among the small crowds of trolls. As they stood on the familiar shores of Innothule, each one began to understand... they must have somehow angered their god... and the assault that was coming towards them must be his final act of retribution. The battle lasted only hours. From the first call of alarm, to the moment the last of the terrified trolls scurried into the Feerrott and the sands of Ro, the frogloks were clearly blessed. The trolls were reduced to an almost primal state. Those that stood and fought were quickly reduced to a smoldering and broken mass; evidence of the true power of what would be called the Guktan army. The Lance of Mithaniel could only triumph in their mission. Grobb stood decimated before them. Gukta, the outpost of Marr... The visions that awaited them in the waters of Innothule that first night were not wrong. As the first light of morning broke through the haze and smoke of battle, the frogloks worked quickly to erect proof of their victory. Before the noon sun reached its pinnacle, the city was transformed. Grobb was no more.

The entire troll population of Norrath is rightly saddened and enraged by the taking of our home by the Appetizers (I still have both fond memories of feeding my guild trainer their flesh time end time again, and recurrent nightmares of frog trains from my newbie days), but remember, it isn't over yet. I believe our salvation will come in time. Mark my words, there will be a reckoning, and our stay in Neriak will be temporary. Let your hatred flow strong and pure, and Innoruuk will be with us.

How would you feel if your homeland had been destroyed by your enemy and all of your relatives were killed? Worst yet we did not have a chance to defend ourselves. Some computer god sent an invincible army against us trolls. How many of you who hate us have never had a tank protecting you in battle. We have always been on the front lines taking all of the blows while you sit on your rear ends playing with your books. Why should we be the only race ever to loose its city. We will be back ! You can count on it !
Mighty troll warriors wipped out by a bunch of frogs? Ha!
# Feb 08 2003 at 12:04 PM Rating: Decent
So the "mighty" trolls have been wipped out by a bunch of frogs ; little creatures that are as tall as a trollish leg?
Ha! What a shame!

Now, of course, there are some good things coming for the trolls : wandering around half-naked dark elf is much more enjoyable than wandering around stinky bashers ;)

Long live froggies!

Holy Schmolly.. a new dawn. The mighty Froglok frogs. Move over grover. I still dream of the thousands that I have killed. I will be haunted with their death cries. How can I look in their faces now? ... easy :)
