There's a Rate Hike Coming

Hang onto your wallets. This was just posted at this link on the main Everquest site. EverQuest price increase 03/25/2002 Due to the increased costs of running the EverQuest game service, we will be increasing our subscription rates in April. Effective April 25, the new monthly subscription rate will be $12.95/month. We will continue to offer discounts from the new rate plan on multi-month subscriptions. You don’t have to do a thing; you will automatically be migrated to the new billing structure under your current subscription plan when your current subscription plan expires. New EverQuest rates as of April 25, 2002: $12.95 per Month $35.85 for 3 Months $65.70 for 6 Months HOWEVER, for a limited time only (from April 10 through April 24, 2002), you may extend your current subscription for an additional 12 or 24 months by signing up for the new EQ 12 or 24 month plan – and reap great savings off of the new rates: Extend for 12 months for $109 US – and get a 30% discount off of the new monthly rates! Extend for 24 months for $190 US – and get a 39% discount off of the new monthly rates! Now is the time to lock in these rates, so don’t miss out. All pricing plans (except for the 12 and 24 month extension plans) are recurring, meaning you will continue to be billed at the appropriate interval, until you cancel your subscription. Note that purchasers of the full game will receive their free month of game play after supplying valid billing information. If you cancel your subscription during the free month, no charges will be made to your credit card. New York State and Texas residents will be charged sales tax. All subscription fees will appear on your credit card statement under the heading "SOE*EverQuest". Please note: The subscription charges are in addition to the cost of the game. You will need to purchase a copy of the game from a retail store or online at the Station Store. The price of the game will vary depending upon the store.

profits. Don't even for a second buy anyone propaganda that they are barly squeaking by, and for those idiots who think they are in the negatives.....WAKE THE F$*K UP!
Why did verant hide server population. It happened around AO and Daoc release correct? To hide the server's population flux. It didn't want to show you all it's server sizes for the first few weeks when Daoc and Ao had it's biggest support. After many returned why bother putting it back up to only take it down the next Mmorpg tht comes out.

Secondly for people who've played eq from day one, with no breaks(I know many/most old timers likemyself have taken a month or so off but for hypothetical purposes). 40 for Eq,20 For kunark, 30 Vel, 30 luclin now for the entire of the game you've paid 120$ about on software. Now on services 3 years, 12 months 10 $ a month, another 360. Thats half a grand you alone have spent on 1 game. Sure it's been alot of play time, but don't you see. Another expansion already on the rise, a 30% monthly pay raise. AND Eq 2 in production. Don't think they won't **** all your eq 1 chrs over and make everyone start from scratch again while they pump out millions of expansions for their sequal.

I for one have never played the Bluebie side of Eq. I've always roleplayed or PvPed and without those 2 aspects i would of left this **** long ago

People like you are really pathetic. I mena think about it. One 3 dollar hike is not that much at all in 3 years. And Also, YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. Run the figures. The costs to run a MMORPG is outrageously expensive, and they are based in CA, so its even more expensive. Also just for a second imagine how much bandwithe they need? its disgusting. Now here you are, acting all I ahte eq. but you play. You get all upset over a small increase that shouldve been expected a while back. GOD! PEOPLE! We all know not one of you are leaving. You will all stay. So just STFU, please.
And Up we go

First the Post Office is raising their rates and now Verant, but at least the Post Office is only going up 3 cents.. I think they will use the money to pay for the added GM's/Guides and Tech people for the Legends Server. I'll wager whole Pepporoni Pizza it will not do a thing for the blue-collar servers the rest of us play on. I only manage to play maybe 2 hours a day if that as my job and family take priority, and my time frame of playing is during their great patching madness. I live overseas giving up my freedom of choice to protect their right raise the price. If they would compensate us by having their GM's/Guides help us instead of hiding in CShome, or ignoring our petitions and running over to Stormhammer and kiss up to those who can afford $40 a month, mayeb I would not complain. I even had a GM tell my son who was stuck in a pit of water when he asked for help to "Open Your Eyes and Look, I could find it." It would have really killed him to "GUIDE" him, or Summon him as they like to do when someone uses a word in a phrase like I did "Dang I wish Verant would pay their Mobs more,I only got 1 copper off that last one
/sigh

This is where I draw the line. No, not the fact that is $3 dollars more a mouth. It's the principle! They could have raised the price 50 cents and I would still be ticked. So far I have invested:

(2 accounts for 3 years)

$50 x 2 (the original EQ)
$45 x 2 (Kunark, the one boxed with the original EQ)
$20 x 2 (Velious)
$30 x 2 (Luclin)
$10 a month x 2 accounts x 12 monthes in a year x 3 years
-----------
$1010 in game fees alone

There's a whole lot of things that bother me about EQ, and the fact that I'm going to be charged more for the same service is ridicules. As a customer I feel like I'm being milked for all I'm worth.

Planes of Power has a release date of Oct 4th @ 29.99, less than a year after Luclin. Luclin! What potential! Verant has opening admitted that they shipped Luclin before it was finished just to get it out for Christmas. Things like focus items (which are finally starting to appear) weren't put it because "there wasnt enough time." same with the Bazaar. I'm sorry, I didn't know the world was going to end if you actually FINISHED something before you released it. And don't give me that "pressure from the publisher" bull. You are Verant, you make more than the publisher, YOU tell THEM when its going to be done.

I would be okay with paying more if there was a little communication going on here. Honestly, if you go to the EQLive website and look, its just a load of crap. Some random stories and "The Planes of Power has just been announced!" wow... impressive (notice the sarcasm). Just today the login servers were crapping up and SoE didn't update their network status page until 4 LONG hours after the problem was first encountered! Is it that hard to quickly modify some HTML? Come on people! You want me to WHAT? Pay more for WHAT?

Don't you see? They know EQ is going down hill. The first step was hiding the player per server numbers. Then it was throwing Luclin out the door too early just to make some money. Then it was Legends, hoping to make a little extra. After that it the Planes of Power! Now this! Raising monthly charges!

Why does Verant need the extra cash after making so much? Well, I'll tell you my theory. Verant has one major game released right now (eq, duh). Planetside and Star Wars have been in development for what seems like decades now. My theory is that some guy at SoE/Verant said "Hey, all of our other projects are running behind shedule so were going to need some extra cash to keep them going. Lets raise the monthly price of EQ! Hell, they are all addicted, they can't quit even if they wanted to. Lets abuse them a little bit until we can get another MMORPG out the door."

/sigh

As angry/disappointed as I am, you all know I'm going to keep playing... damn you Verant! damn you.

OK so let's take that number backwards. $1010 over 3 yrs divided by 36 months = $28.06 per month. Now, how many hours a week do you play EQ (total on both accts)? I'm a VERY casual gamer, and I probably put in 8 or so, so let's be conservative and say 10. That's about 40 per month, so you'd have paid an average of a WHOPPING... 70 cents an hour. So, ... what's the problem again?

"As angry/disappointed as I am, you all know I'm going to keep playing... damn you Verant! damn you."

That's the very reason they raised the price. They ARE a business after all, and the point of a business is to make money. If people will still play at a higher price, then why not charge a higher price?

And if you are thinking of those others who "can't afford three dollars more," the increase in revenue is so much greater than these small losses, you can obviously see why they'd be willing to raise the price.

Of course they are greedy, that's the basis of our economic system, and every succesful business today is greedy.

The fact that Sony is even in the picture should make the above statement obvious. This is why I'm nervous that SWG won't be everything it's been hyped up to be, or if it ever reaches that point it will take years (like EQ has). There used to be a day where Lucas Arts would not allow just any game be published under the Star Wars name. But after the slew of horrid EP1 games came out I'm afraid that high standard has gone the way of the dodo for LA. Money/Marketing seems to be the name of the game with it comes to entertainment and there a very few game companies out there that stick to the "design first" rule. Anyway, point stated, I will stop now before I go on a rant.
I really hope they improve the service

For these additional 3$ a month they should really improve the service they provode.
For example the Boats where not running on Antonious Bayle for the last 3 or 4 days.
I think this is quite a mess, because i had to wait for 5 hours for a GM to come online and take me to OOT.

Hehe, funny you should mention that. We've been having problems with our Kunark shuttle service on Tholuxe Paells for quite a few days now (ever since the new patch actually). To be blunt it just doesn't work. GMs and guides have been very nice about it though and there has been a GM/Guide on watch at least 6 hours/day (when I'm on) ready to port those that need to get back to BB or need to get to FV.

I dont mind 3 bucks but, why if they aren't making money dont they start consolidating servers? It wouls be a better gameplay experience for all if there were more people on fewer servers. That translates to cheaper for verant to run, and they dont have to raise the price, and the experience gets better! Especially for newbie chars who have a hard time finding anyone to group with.

Instead Verant is going to raise the price and milk the remaining players who still remain faithful. I will pay the extra 3 bucks no prob, but please consolodate some servers, it sure is lonely for new players.

I don't know about this solution. I can see the point you are brining across but you have to consider a few factors. First of all the way the system works is different from what most people think. Verant doesn't have a server for every "realm" (Karana "server" for instance is not one server). Instead they have a collection of servers for every named realm (I call them realms because it's just easier to follow my point).

They split zones onto different servers depending on the load. So one very heavy load zone could have one dedicated server, while other zones that aren't used much at all (say Najena, Lavastorm, and Toxx) are all grouped onto one server. This is why when they need to reset a zone or make a change with several mobs in a zone they don't have to take down the whole "server" but instead just those zones.

Now that I've explained that process (very simplified I'm sure) I'll go on to the issue at hand. Imagine the lag you experience when going into a zone that is almost always heavily populated, say ToV, Oasis, Lake of Ill Omen, Gfay, or EC. Now, knowing how the server system generally works imagine the extra load the one or two servers would have to take if all of a sudden two realms of 3000 people were merged together. My guess is if they do that not only would our game performance be hurt, but to compensate for the extra load they would have to upgrade the equipment or get more servers to support the extra load brought about by the servers.

So while in theory the realm merge sounds like a great idea, really I can't see it being a (cheap) reality. Then again you can make the point that you can just use the extra servers from the now non-existent realm to load more zones on one server, instead of 3 or 4 on one server. But again that brings up the problems of the already populated zones that are running on one server as it is. I don't know the technical details enough to speculate whether or not that would work.

The second point would be people, more specifically overcrowding. This is now less of an issue with the expansions but it's still a problem with some of the servers. More people means more higher level guilds competing for one mob, more farmers, more KSers, more people brining items into the EQ economy of the newly made server (hence drives value down), and more people overcrowding the already popular zones (OT, Lake, DL). It also means LESS: opportunities to camp a rare, chances for smaller guilds (at bigger raids), value to items that would saturate the market, and less of a chance to group in an overcrowded zone.

To keep in style with my format it could also mean more opportunities for general grouping (see below), greater chances to meet more people, and bigger guilds (this could also be a curse however). Also because the market becomes saturated with items it also becomes a buyers' market and items are cheaper (though this again is a double edged sword). As for the general grouping mentioned above, this would only work in those zones that aren't populated already (and there are reasons people don't hunt in those zones). So a newbie goes into EC/N Ro and all of a sudden is stuck in the classic LFG for hours because of the "DL overcrowding problem."

So from the two points above it seems that merging realms together could be a good idea but the logistics of it would probably bring SO much trouble for both the player and the company that $3/month more sounds a bit more logical. Not flaming, just stating some points that should be considered when looking at this problem from this angle.

NOTE *EDIT*:

Also, I would like to add that I do not think it is about them not making money as it is about the cost of living increase (staff salaries, cost of maintenance/running, facilities, and such). Three years have gone by and whether we think of EQ as a game or not it is really a business service (entertainment). To that point as the cost of living increases so do the fees. It is a very simple model to understand that most other industries use.

However, I would also like to add that as a business service their customer support could be better. I can surely understand the point of those people that are questioning why the fees are being raised when customer service seems to remain at the same level. If you make that point to me then I will agree that there is definitely room for improvement.

I never flame. I just want to comment on this: "...experience for all if there were more people on fewer servers". More people ? On the same gamespace ? One of the more serious problems of Everquest is camping and waiting your turn at various places/spawn sites in the game. If they did consolidate...then the double population would see to your not finding a nice place to level in. Not to mention the problem in the high level guild raiding game. Each time your guild plans something, it will be certain that the raid spot is already taken by another guild. On my server that happens even now. Imagine what would happen with double the population.

On the other hand it would be easier to find a group or rare items in auctions since there would be more people auctioning them.

Another disadvantage that comes to mind is Link Deaths. Some of these LDs are caused by poor connections. Most of them however are caused in very popular zones at peak times. Zones that contain 100+ characters end in the zone kicking lots of people out. I dont want to think about what would happen if instead of 50 people lvls 16-26 who are leveling in LOIO, we now have 100. I have to pass through this zone to go to FM. I dont want to LD and try again and again. Very tie consuming.

To sum it up:

ADVANTAGE:MORE NICE ITEMS UP FOR EVERYONE

ADVANTAGE:WITH SO MANY GUILDS WE WILL FINALY HAVE SOME GUILD WARS

DISADVANTAGE:MORE CAMPING/WAITING

DISADVANTAGE:LINK DEATHS

Feel free to add advantages/disadvantages.

I say big deal they are raising the rates 3 bucks a month....Before i started playing EQ i went out every weekend and spent 50 - 100 bucks for nothing. Now $12.95 a month versus say an average of $75 a month I think ill stay home and play EQ. Sure VI makes a ton of money off this game, but it also cost a ton to run a game of this nature. So either stop playing or keep playing 99% of us will still play and VI will make an extra 3 bucks a month but who cares it is a fun game

I don't know if this is considered a flame or not but if you're going to flame on others about their crying, you could at least use some proper grammar so I can read it once and understand your point of view. Not to mention, from what I've been reading no one is, as you put it, crying. People are explaining their point of views and opinions in a very proper manner. You also deserve your opinion but if you were only flaming the others as an advertisement to try to get free stuff, that's pretty bad. Personally, I'm quitting even though it's not for money reasons.
Thanks for your time.

Inflation
# Mar 26 2002 at 1:49 AM Rating: Default
Ok 30 % increase after three years= inflation? While I am not going to look up the current rate of inflation right now I can very safely say that it is way below an average of 10 per year over the last 3 years, (yes it doesn't quite work out to 10 % a year but it's close enough for a video game based discussion board). I agree with the statement that this is all just marketing test group stuff. And probably not too bad, yes it arguably is worth the money, of course they provide very little. As to development I paid to get a copy of EQ, I paid enough in fact that development should have been covered, frankly I paid far more than I should have, seeing as how they then proceed to gain a recurring income from me. My cell phone company gave me my phone for free. My cable modem company gave me my hardware for free. Why? because then they have me hooked and needing to keep paying for their service. Compare Diablo 2, yeah not mmpog they provide huge server bases, updates, less patches, no monthly fees and are still hugely profitable. Now I'm not complaining much, I'll still probably play just as much as I do know. but if one of their competitors gets it into thier head to offer free software and a slightly increased monthly fee, I'll probably try em out, and if thier better I'll switch. as iyt is I already bought EQ I'm not going to buy any expansions, and I'm not willing to shell out for DAC until I am more convinced.

FIGHT THE MAN!!

These big business's are all run by crooks, and by my calculations a very conservative estimate on how much cash theyve made in the 3 years if 150+ million dollars. If the greedy captolist pigs running the company didnt spend all the company profits on new million dollar mansions, and bentlys and private jets. Maybe they could put some concern into the game.

Its about time that the people of the world fight back against the big business, they are getting way out of control. From sending factories to 3rd world countries, to laying off people by the 10's of thousands to get the economy kickin up again. They are the reason the economy is getting as crappy as it is. Its like a rocket into space, u start out with the huge mass of fuel which raises you up to a point, but to get any higher, they have to dump off that weight which got them there, and they go a little bit higher, dump off more and more as they get really really high. The 90's were about that high point, then all of a sudden they realized, hey were runnin outta fuel here, and they got no support to stop em. The parachutes being cut, and if we dont act soon, these greedy business men are going to shoot this whole world economy to hell. Dont believe the bull crap theyre feeding you, cause its exactly that... BULL!!!

STOP PLAYING FOR A WEEK, if we can get a mass number of people to stop playing just for one week, I bet we can open their eyes, maybe it will make them realize that we are the ones that support them enough to get their private jets, and huge mansions. I dont even want to hear the BS like "oh your whining like an extra 3 dollars is gonna break u" well thats not the point. I could definatly afford the 3 extra bucks, but to them, that measly 3 bucks is being multiplied by 420,000 accounts. Thats 1,260,000 dollars A MONTH!!! I dont know but for 1.2 MILLION dollars a month you better be servin sucky sucky with the damn game. Thats just insane! And some of you sheeple are just accepting it like lambs to the slaughter. I would think by getting a 400% increase in their profits from 8000 people would be enough to cator to their greedy, money grubbing ****** but I guess not. This is the biggest BS!! in EQ history, and in video gaming history. I dont know how anyone can sit there and take it. They are givin out **** poor service right now for a reason, their servers arent messed up, theyre just doin it so when they do start gettin the money, they pull some of the corks outta the system and say... ahh see now its all better, as they grin with their greedy eyes glittering with gold dollar signs.

I SAY DAMN THE MAN!!! THEY'VE GONE TO FAR ALREADY AND THIS IS JUST OVER THE EDGE!!! LETS CHOOSE A WEEK, I SAY THE WEEK THE NEW BILLING GOES INTO AFFECT AND NOT PLAY FOR THAT ENTIRE WEEK OR EVEN MORE!!! STOP THE MACHINE WHILE WE CAN OR ITLL GET OUTTA CONTROL, MORE SO THAN IT ALREADY IS!!!

do it for the princple of it, if not just for the mear 3 bucks your spending.

"Greedy capitalist pigs" ? I did not know that communists played EQ. Your post of course changed my misconception about that. Anyway you have to know that big corporations make the world go round. They affect/control the economy of each country. Big corporation antagonism makes each one trying to offer better sevice than the other (at the least cost possible). The price increase will produce better customer service not only for EQ but for other games as well.

Anyway, on a lighter note, last time i heard this expression "Greedy capitalist pig" was on old spy movies.

But lets assume, a communist server. This server will be given not the name of a God/Hero/Demigod but the name of a communist father say for example server name "The Stalin server" or the "Lenin server" or the "October 17 revolution server".

Lets see what would happen in this server at say...Kelethin !

1. There would be queues at the INN above orc lift for rations and milk

2. You would hear auctions like "XXXXXX auctions CB belts for everyone, free. The Crushbone orc commitee gives the zones to the PEOPLE for free"

3. The GMs will not belong to the guild "Keepers of Tranquility" but to the guild "Commitee for State Security" (KGB for sort). They are always going to be invisible, monitoring your every move...and when you loot something, they will tell you: "Guide XXXXXXXX here. We have detected that you already have this item at the bank. You are obliged to give this item to another COMRADE who needs it".

4. If you are making more than 20pp per game (not RL month) the GM will come and say: "Guide XXXXXXX here. You have to pay 20% to the communist party. Show us your Acrylia slate party membership card" !

5. Noone should have a horse. Instead a public transportation system should be invented with more teleporters/boats. "LADA" or "ZIL" horses are GM and party members ONLY.

6. Upon reaching 20 lvl you should write and submit a 2000 word essay on the subject "What the 20th levels means to the people".

7. And lastly we would see /ooc or /shout messages like this (since we all know how much communist like religion): "30 lvl **CENSORED** LFG." or "High lvl **CENSORED** is resing. Donations not accepted. Free for all" where **CENSORED** = CLERIC

That is all

LOL!!!! OMG i had a good laugh at your rant...

First off, I am American, and just because your pretty blind to the world around you, i wont be to harsh on ya.

1. What?

2. Wouldnt that be nice if some people would do that? Helping out eachother? Wait thats a scary idea, nevermind that, helping out of the goodness of your heart is now communism...=/

3. Yeah... You dont know verant GM's then, they are like mini dictatorships on every server. You are VERY uneducated man... GM's spy through your guild chat, they can spy on your /tells, they can even EVERY key stroke you make, so even if you dont type it out and directly send it to someone, they will know about it. And if you already have something like a lamintation sword in the bank which you dont use, dont get another one, when someone else can use it, your called a loot ***** if you do. Ever hear of LORE items? kinda play on your same little "communist" action.

4. Ever hear of TAXES!!! Yes, when you get older, maybe you too will realize that its expensive to run a city, and you will also realize that Bill Gates did not pay in majority of his taxes because of loop holes. So these big coorperations your praising as Capitolist dream teams, are screwin ya REAL hard. Companies give money to the poor so they can write it off on their taxes, case closed. Oh yeah, as for your acrilya state card deal... moron what else do you think they do when you have to log into the server EVERY day.
Name- Soandso Password- SuchandSuch.... See you dont even realize your being scanned in, /shrug call me an idiot but i see this as something you would call communist /shrug?

5. LOL... ok well the extra porters would be nice, its unneccisary, seeing as that would make VI actually do something for once, and would probably run us at least 15 bucks a month for that. Buy your horse if you want, hell its your cash to spend, just dont go raping other people in the process to getting that cash. Companies get it by blackmale, Hence VI, dont worry we will automatically change your billing rate! Do we have a say in the matter? Wheres the democracy in that? /shrug (dont think just do as your told, be a good american citizen)

6. Wow your smart, sounds like what we do in college. Upon your finishing your masters degree, you must write a 100 page disertation on what it means to be in your proffesion.

7. Get a damn clue please. Communists are against people joining any religons except their own. Russia... Stalin was their god. In communist societies, you would be lucky if you could write a 2000 word essay. Because communist nations form because our way of life is imposed on poor societies who truelly are not ready for our way of living just quite yet.

THAT is all... I believe all the nice clerics who do give out a free rez are MUCH more respected than those that charge you 50pp to waste their valuble time on clickin a button to help another person out.

Um, this is not really a good thing but be quiet, captalism is what makes America great. However, I agree to the point that the 'expense increase' is total bologna. How many places have I seen that EQ has made the most profit of any game ever? You'd think they could afford to not raise the price. But for this price increase there had very well be a better increase in the service we get, the Legends thing is bad enough ($40 a month for a PC game is just insane.)

-Captialist Paladin of Zebuxoruk :)

PS. The wonderful thing about capitalism is supply/demand... ie if enough folks boycott the game prices will indeed likely go down in order to raise the user base... however, the odds of this are not very likely as it would seem alot of people are addicted to EQ like it's a drug or something lol.

Oh yeah, I would also like to mention that if you look in history, the french revolution started because of economic unrest. Unrest that was not even as bad as ours is today in the USA. If you dont understand what I mean, its the 1% of the population that is holding the MASS! majority of the wealth in this nation. We are a democracy as well as capitolists (which is very hypocritical if you have any knowledge on the 2 systems) so as a democracy, its power to the people... Tell me, how much power do you have in your workplace? If your in a big name company you probably got JACK! You just keep quiet like a church mouse in the corner hoping not to be fired by doing anything to extreme. This is the system im trying to protest, these are the guys that have so much power they dont even know what to do with it.

Oh well, im done argueing, Obviously preeching to the wrong section here... lets all just bend over and take whats comin to us blindly like we always do...

pay hike
# Mar 26 2002 at 12:45 AM Rating: Default
The Way I see it the only reason for the pay hike is because they released lucin before it was completely tested, video cards, processers, causing them to spend even more time and money on fixing the problems that souldn't have been there if they would have done the job right in the first place. So we are the one's paying for their mistakes!

ATTENTION ALL WHO ARE GOING TO WINE AND QUIT PLAYING BECAUSE OF 3 BUCKS! i have a character on the cazic-thul server named menluin. he is a woodelf and only lev 11 at time of this post. if you are going to get all in a huff and quit, please do so and before going donate all of your items that would go to waste to me to sell. fletching practice costs a lot as you all know and i am in the mid 70's thus far. any contributions to the cause of making my character a master at that skill will be appreciated. all those who are staying, your right this is the first increase in three years of exsistance for SOE. if you are a leaver, please remember all donations of sellable items are accepted, for all of you staying look for me in the tunnel in ec, ill be fletching and selling arrows and anything else that comes my way so i can practice practice practice.

My 2cp
# Mar 25 2002 at 11:51 PM Rating: Default
Okay, I am so addicted to this game that even with this $3.00 increase I still save money. Before EQ I would easily spend $60+ a month on new games that I would just beat or tire of in a few weeks just to head out and do it all over again. I say BRING ON THE INFLATION!!! And lay off Sony and Verant. with so many companies going under as of late, this is a good move for them. And thinking about the sheer volume of players, developers, GM's, and other people involved with this game, the problems they have seem kinda small. Again, just my 2cp. = )
RE: My 2cp
# Mar 26 2002 at 2:01 AM Rating: Decent
LOL , I still buy 2-3 new games a month and get bored of them very fast (ok , Ghost Recon is the exception)Even though it will go up to $12.95 a month, It is still a great value for the money . Maybe they will actually start putting in more real time Gm events( ok , So now im going a bit far )
I'll pay if....
# Mar 25 2002 at 11:42 PM Rating: Default
I have no problem paying an extra $3, but for that, I expect better CS, a GM that will at least answer petitions within 3 hours before they expire and better patching processes.

/agree
as it stand the level of CS I have gotten from VI has been about none. Doesn't help them making Legends and giving those people the things we all should be getting, now they go and raise our rates.. are we going to get anything more for this $3. I;d be happy with more free zones like they did with warren and stonebrunt (though they are lame) but we need something to show for it
Verant = Bad
# Mar 25 2002 at 11:36 PM Rating: Default
The $3 price hike is quite high. That is 30% more. I think they should be lowering the price not upping it. Anybody here want to buy my old Celeron 500 chip? I will sell it to you for 30% more than it originally cost me. I got a pair of shoes that is about 3 years old. I paid $100 bucks for em. Sell em to you for $130.

I don't mind paying the higher amount for newer games like DAOC and the 2nd generation games but this first gen game? Too many bugs that haven't been fixed since day one. I mean one of the inns in EC still has a grass floor. And it isn't my video card. I have had 4 video cards in the last three years and all the same. Kunark's mobs still miscon Aggro when they arn't. Etc. Etc.

Good thing I restarted my Asheron's Call account.

I just hope Star Wars is done right when it comes out, but I doubt it.

Sorry for the Anon posting, I'm too lazy to log in.

For all those with Game Card questions (sorry if this has already been answered, I'm also too lazy to read if anyone responded after the first few game card questions), Absor posted a link to a FAQ about the new pricing, along with some other comments. The link to the FAQ is here: http://everquest.station.sony.com/support/accounts_billing/rate_faq.jsp

The post is here:
http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/everquest/Forum1/HTML/000526.html
If that doesn't work it's the Developer's Forum link on www.everquestlive.com , and the news item titled Everquest Pricing Increase

What it says is that since you've already paid for the game cards those game cards will still work at the price you paid. In addition, "Retailers have set, and will continue to set, their own prices for game cards."

Sounds like if a retailer decides to set their price for cards at a lower price than EQ subscribers at large (I don't know if they get a discount for bulk account time or whatnot) then you can still play for the lower than 12.95 price.

I guess if you're a cheap ******* you can stock up on game cards.. although at 7.90 a month the 24 month option isn't bad.. if you think you can manage to stick around that much longer :)

Hope this helps,
Faille

Its what you are getting or not getting with it. Will this 3 dollars a month from me per account actually make the game better and remove bugs that have been in game since day 1? With VI's track record I don't think so. They keep adding expansions instead of fixing problems that have existed since day 1 why? Becuase people need reasons to keep with a game that is so full of bugs its ridiculous. Its not the money its the principal and my Good Sense says that If I actually got some improvement for my money I would have no problem but I am NOT..

Can Anyone say Bazaar? the highly spoken for part of Luclin that was PROMISED as part of Luclin and here 6 months later is not even in game?
RE: Its NOT the money..
# Mar 25 2002 at 11:24 PM Rating: Default
3 bucks a month is probably making EQ profitable again. Nonprofitable segments, no matter how popular they are with the general public, are very easy targets for a company when they look to make cuts.

I don't think any of us have a brand loyalty to Sony because of EQs relation to SOE. There's no fiscal reason for Sony to keep EQ around, especially when increasing prices will bring in more money.

My guess is that EQ already is or is coming very close to earning negative profits. Sure they take in many many millions (billions?) of income a month, but they also have three years of development costs, employees, developers, CSR reps, advertisements, and the like to pay.

I have heard GMs get paid crap as it is, even if they don't hire anymore I hope that some of them get a raise.

YOU SIT IN FRONT OF A COMPUTER SCREEN ALL DAY. IN A PADDED CHAIR!!! I SAY PAY EM 5 BUCKS AN HOUR CAUSE ID MUCH RATHER DO THAT THEN WORK AT McDONALDS SLAVIN OVER THE HOT GRILLS!!

and even so, the GMs never DO ANYTHING!! so what, hey well do a messed up raid today, they dont even get the spelling correct on half the messages they send out, and the other half, the events are just SO stupid, and have nothing to do with anything. Dont cry that the GM's arent gettin payed, enough, their gettin payed plenty for doin next to nothing!

/petition I have a problem, please send me a tell to get more details, its quite complicated...

6 hours later...

Hi Im SoandSo and im gonna be your guide today, how may you complain to me =)

/tell Soandso <insert complaint here>

Sorry kind sire, I can do something about it, but I wont. Have a nice day =)

/tell Soandso thanks for doing nothing once again =) Only waited 6 hours this time instead of not getting a tell at all

Yes, we are rather busy telling people we cant do anything for them... sorry about the long delay =)

In that scenario if I was the GM, I would almost pay to be able to be jag offs to people like they can be. The smiling enemy. They will recieve no sympathy from me, and niether do they deserve it. Theyre smooth talkin crooks, dont be a sucker!!

ATTENTION USERS
As of 5-1-02 I am going on a 2 month strike from the game...3.00 dollars a month is fine to pay,but we should be receiving better customer service and support.I am putting up this e-mail address eqstrike@yahoo.com for you to send an e-mail to if you will participate in the strike...I repeat it is not about the three dollars. If you are serious about making Verant accountable to us as their consumers then as many of us as possible should strike. If you actually want to do something instead of complain then this is America and lets stand for our rights otherwise we are just bowing down. When 5-1-02 comes I will be sending an E-mail to Verant listing my demands, and I will include yours if you are with me,I believe if we hit them in their pocket book then they will actually listen to us,If not we are just sucking air...Please take this serious as our rights as consumers are being violated and if we dont stand for something then we will fall for anything...Thanks Dusty
Reality Check
# Mar 25 2002 at 10:58 PM Rating: Default
It is not the $3 it's the 30%, even the pharmaceutical industry doesn't increase prices 30% But then they don't have us hooked quite the same way. Most service businesses improve their service first and increase prices later.
I would rather see annual nominal increases with the evidence of improved service than a whopping 30% when service may well be at it's lowest. Many of us pay for two or more accounts so it does add up.
Sure, it is still a good value for the hours we play; but we played, in part, because it was a good value.
The reality is they used a marketing group to determine just how much they could increase the price. This insured the maximum increase with a minimal loss of accounts and had little to do with their expenses. Weighing customer loyalty against dissatisfaction and fueled by the fact that housands of us hung on for weeks after the Luclin Launch without being able to play (without experiencing major problems) but still not cancelling our service.
Milking the cash cow is a time honored tradition... I guess I should know better than to expect corporate integrity!

Could it help?...Me???
# Mar 25 2002 at 10:20 PM Rating: Decent
Well if VI loots 2 of each dollar and spends 1 on real devemopment that would open up the opportunity to hire more customer service personal, clean up bugs, start up a few new servers etc.
I hope this works. 30 percent is a large rise in rate but very little in the real world of my personal finances- Ie: one Latte (I live in Seattle) per month. All said and done I would rather not spend the cash if the servers dive as often as they do but, moreover I would love to get 10 cents of each players cash.
Everyone please send me a dime!!!
Seriously !!!
Use my Allakhazam e mail address to contact me.
You can just send me a dollar for the year and save 20 cents!!!! Wow!! Do It!!!
It will be fun for you!!
Send me
Thorsman of Drinal 10 cents every month you play!!!!!!
This Will Be Fun!!!
You will enjoy sending me money!!!
I will keep a posting of cash raised and mention your name as a benefactor! What an honour, You are an honourable person!
