Focus Items

Focus Items

Untill we can update the database to compensate for focus items, here's a static list of some of the focus item effects in the game. Feel free to comment with more.

UPDATE: A number of items have been changed from what this list says, on Wed June 5. Don't buy gear on the basis of this or any other list untill the final effects are known.

It's amazing to see how badly VI messed this up. A wonderful idea, asinine implemantation.

This is like giving your kid a clean pair of underware and telling them to put them on. When they return they are wearing them on their head...

I was very suprised to see Azure Sleeves With a Improved Damage 1 ...Comeon I mean your not level 40 you shouldn't go there looking for a group you come with a group you may try at like 35ish. Level one effect is lvl 20 spells and below. Can you say they want us to TWINK Like Heck!

I Can't belive this.

Batskull Earring = Reagent Conservation 1 = Minimum Level: 34 mob.

Wolf Fur Slippers = Spell Haste 1 = Minimum Level: 27 ---OK so not so bad...no there are 7 mobs in this room. most of the time couple healers couple tanks and couple nukers.

Basicly Risk vs reward is being overlooked. I have a 54th lvl druid. I am wearing stuff I got or could afford to buy and well....I think I have a level 2 item and a few level one but none are level 3. I have also noticed that things that will give you better ablities are actually something you'd wear AKA druid wearing nightsade werith mmm 5 wis = reanimation. Yes it's a great Item for a necro...again it's in the heart of Mistmoore and it's a level 1 item.....the added ablities are virtualy usless. I hope stats are not changed as it would be a major unbalancing of an alread slanted field.

I agree with you on this one that it is total bull... Even GEBs are like that: max lvl 44 when it's a drop from a lvl 50 mob that you can't take out until mid-50's... And no true int-caster item has Improved Damage III, as far as the posts that I have read go (if I am wrong, please tell me because I *want* other items to have ID III). Thanks

You seem to have forgotten that the GEBs are pre-expansion equipment, and can be gotten by two groups of upper 40's provided they know what they are doing. Yeah I'll admit that a single group of mid-50's is capable of camping the Efreeti but that's not how the that dungeon was tuned. Try asking another oldtimer if you don't believe me.

A Number of items were changed (Again) on test this eve. (Wed, June 5)

Many items got nerfed (though personally, in most cases I think they should have been), though some were also upgraded from my point of view.

The point being:

DO NOT BUY ANY GEAR ON THE BASIS OF WHAT'S BEEN POSTED TO DATE

Any clues as to the nature of the nerfs ?Effects removed ? Stats increased or effects increased ?
RE: More Changes!
# Jun 06 2002 at 1:06 PM Rating: Decent
all items that had focus will still have it, just some will have a different kind. As for a few I noticed that seemed bugged, there were int items that gave improved healing and wis items that gave improved damage... but also, I now noticed that my cougar claw earrings dont have Extended Range II anymore, they have Mana Preservation I, heh

:( < slaps VI on the wrist >

Thks for the undercovered info. Will VI restore the upgraded stats or ?? BTW, all the new stats seems only good for casters, what about the pure melees?

RE: More Changes!
# Jun 06 2002 at 2:48 AM Rating: Decent
Actually the focui where added to help balance Casters vs. Melees

Since gear makes such a big differance to the melee classes, this is an attempt to have gear help casters other than just for stats.

So to answer your question, these are to improve casting, much like haste gear and bane damage help melees...

for the record...
# Jun 06 2002 at 12:27 AM Rating: Default
so for the record here... do the items stack together?...
ex: mana preservation 3 on 3 different items.. does that mean we now get +9 mana preservation? or does just one for them work and we only get +3 mana preservation?

"its all to confusing!!!"
drood of Terris-Thuel
RE: for the record...
# Jun 06 2002 at 1:55 AM Rating: Decent
As best I can tell they do not stack. The 1 2 3 refers to spell lvls not the amount of mana preserveation.(3 items work on lvl 60 spells.
Summoning haste 2 works on a 44 pet but not a 49 pet so 2's upper range is between 44 and 49.)
bards screwed
# Jun 05 2002 at 11:27 PM Rating: Default
What this means is bards screwed in the balancing of classes. Melees got discs and all they own in pvp. Casters now get focus items and everythings. Bards are in the middle so they get screwed. They fight the no less than 3 sec cast, but it says spells and not songs and even if it was songs too the only song it would affect would be the level 49 2.5 min duration speed song. All others are mostly 18 seconds duration except 1-2 30 seconds therefor Bards get screwed once again. They should make some bard only focus items for their songs. I think bards need to get something from this rebalancing or rather unbalancing.
Bards NOT screwed
# Jun 06 2002 at 2:52 AM Rating: Decent
Bards do get bard only focus items,

in the form of all the magic instruments that drop in various places that enchance your songs.
RE: bards screwed
# Jun 06 2002 at 1:53 AM Rating: Decent
Saw a post from Varent claiming they intend to address bards last, after melee and casters, because it's such a unique class...time will tell I guess.
Affliction
# Jun 05 2002 at 8:53 PM Rating: Default
Affliction effects seem to affect any Debuff as well as DOTs. My Syphon Strength, Scream of Hate, and Despair all got Affliction Haste bonus, as well as my Clinging Darkness and Disease Cloud.

Question
# Jun 05 2002 at 6:22 PM Rating: Default
If you already have these items do you have to have a GM changed them to be able to use these new focus effects?
RE: Question
# Jun 05 2002 at 6:48 PM Rating: Decent
No... all items were changed retroactivly, meaning if you've already got an item with one of these effects, it'll already have it.

# Jun 05 2002 at 5:46 PM Rating: Default
Alot of these items will have to have their "average price values" removed..

I was watching the bazaar channel today, and say that any item with foci on it was going for at least 3 times it's normal value.. and tese were for items with level 1 and 2 foci on them..

Testament of Vanear

Testament of Vanear - Reanimation Efficiency I

Seems odd since the Testament is a Wis item and the focus effect is for SkelePets.
RE: Testament of Vanear
# Jun 06 2002 at 8:37 AM Rating: Decent
I agree. I have one on my Druid, and wish this was put on Student's Homework, and the ToV had something like Extended Enhancement II....hehehe...
Another Item
# Jun 05 2002 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
The Testament of Vaneer, has reanimation efficiency I on it.. tho i suspect this will change.. for why, when shadowknights and necros are int casters, would you give this to a plus wis item?
ToV?

I read at caster's realm that the ToV is also a focus item, but has the effect of reanimation haste I. No wisdom casters have reanimated pets so what is the point? Was what I read true or not?

What they Mean?
# Jun 05 2002 at 3:17 PM Rating: Good
Hers my thoughts From What I played this afternoon and what my mate has told me from hi s altered items

Affliction Efficiency : DoTs Work
Affliction Haste : DoTs work Faster

Enhancement Efficiency : Improved Buffs
Enhancemnet Haste : Buffs Faster to cast

Extended Affliction : DoTs Last Longer
Extended Enhancement : Buffs Last Longer

Extended Range : Increased Spell Range
Improved Damage : More Damage from Nukes

Improved Healing : Heals are greater
Mana Preservation : Less Mana Used when cassting a spell :)

Reagent Conservation : Chance of not using items when casting spells requiring reagents e.g. Batwings for Levitate

Reanimation Efficiency : Something to do with resurectoions and revives not using as much mana. I have no clue on this one lol
Reanimation Haste : See above

Spell Haste : Speeding up of casting

Summoning Efficiency : using less mana when using a summon spell (pet, water , food etc?)
Summoning Haste : Faster Casting of Summon Spells

Obviously this is going of what I've experienced so far so it's probably a load of crap but ya never know. Also since the patch my ensnare spells range has been drastically reduced. I used to be able to snare Wyverns from the bottom of the cliffs in CS but now have to climb to near the top. Oh and my mana regen seemed to be a bit quicker than normal to :)

Just my 2CP

The list of efffects
# Jun 05 2002 at 3:09 PM Rating: Default
http://eq.crgaming.com/editorials/focus.asp

This link shows what the effect does....
The level...as stated below I, II, or III is ONLY what spells it affects. I only goes to level 20 spells...after level 20, you will need a II or better item to affect your spells. II goes to 44 and IIIs cover all the way to 60.
RE: The list of efffects
# Jun 05 2002 at 3:11 PM Rating: Default
And...the best i can tell anyway...they DO seem to stack with each other.
I have 2 RMBs and I have cast 20 consecutive Symbols and spent 10 dots.

My Studies showed that items with similair effects do not stack. Though this could easily vary by effect.

I have two items with Enhancement Effiency 3, which if they stack would result in a 30% increase in buff durations. When I tested, I used Speed of the Brood, which normally lasts 30 minutes. With both Focus items on, it lasted ~34 minutes. Which is a 15% increase in duration.

Effects are not cumulative... so no loading up on Affliction Extending items for a DoT that lasts forever (aww... shame)

But more than one Item Effect can affect the same spell...
[Wed Jun 05 18:13:00 2002] Your Braided Ivy Cords shimmers briefly.
[Wed Jun 05 18:13:00 2002] You begin casting Spirit of Wolf.
[Wed Jun 05 18:13:03 2002] You feel the spirit of wolf enter you.
[Wed Jun 05 18:13:03 2002] Your Platinum Armband flickers with a pale light.

... which meant my SoW was cheaper AND faster to cast. Not much of a bonus, but handy to know when I next go shopping for item upgrades.

I was also wearing GE Boots at the time... but I don't yet know wether they were checked but failed and the 'Braided Ivy Cords' acted as a backup, or if only one item (the lowest grade needed to trigger the effect for that spell) is checked. Personally, I think it's the former... meaning it can't hurt to have a pair of RMBs on you cleric help reduce the number of Peridots used.
RE: The list of efffects
# Jun 06 2002 at 11:29 AM Rating: Default
That makes MUCH more sense....

If one fails..the other is checked makes more sense than stacking effects.

hmmm ok my guess would be that these will have similar effects as the magician summoned focus items.. so i dont think they will stack
Focus Numbers!
# Jun 05 2002 at 2:52 PM Rating: Default
Each level of focus works on higher level spells, Effects with I only go up to level 20 spells, II goes up to 44, and III works on all spells in the game. That is what the numbers mean.
RE: Focus Numbers!
# Jun 05 2002 at 8:47 PM Rating: Decent
this cant be true becasue my braided ivy cords affect all my buffs even the ones i got after level 20 and they have a level 1 effect

Please Report on what these effects on these items do. Or put a link up to a site that does say what they do.
Ok so what are the effects?
# Jun 05 2002 at 2:44 PM Rating: Default
So, what do each type of item categories do?

Improved healing 1 on the coronet made a 29 pt heal do 32 in one cast so is it an improvement of up to 10%?

Would improved healing 2&3 be 20 and 30%? would they stack for an improvement of up to 60%?
