As a fresh 19 bard, I had no problem soloing these 1 at a time. I came for XP and silks ;). I go to the second area, with 4 spawns. I 'lament' (lull) 3 and pull 1, run it back to lower guk zone which is nearby. Kill it, heal song, repeat. Not too much downtime and about half a blue a kill, plus any silk that drops (not nearly as much as crag spiders in EK but decent i suppose. at least i'm getting xp ;)) My main twists are warsong, hymn and bellow, and denons twisted in every once in a while (i'm not KOS to frogloks, so that helps hehe)
Tick is a unit of game time. All calculations of regeneration and Damage over time are applied every six seconds. You will notice that your HP bar will jump every 6th second. That is the "tick". So every 6 seconds, the heart spider's poison will inflict 10 hps.
Alot of silk? Well, it's usually 1-4ish per kill. Come down and try em sometime :)
Is the giant heart spider area usually camped for the chitin stuff and not the silk at all? I'm wondering if someone was there camping for chitin and I showed up, if they would care if I just kept whacking the little ones for the silk since I have no need for chitin. Alternately, if happen to show up there on Bertox and see me camping the area, don't hesitate to ask to take the giant spawns....all I want is silk....lots and lots of it.
When hunting silks, I've actually made arrangements with higher level player who want the drops from the Large and Giant spider spawn.
I kill the placeholders (in the normal course of hunting for silks), and also send them a tell when the Large or Giant appears. In return, they buff me every time they come by, and/or give me some of their cheaper loot.
This lets me hunt faster, with the buffs. And it lets the higher levels hunt while they wait for the spawn.
Osano, level 19 human monk -- feigning like mad in Upper Guk
can anyone tell me if these guys are camped often? Im a 13th level paladin, and have cure poison, but I dont want to go down there alone, and all of my friends are either too high or too low to go with me. So can I need to a group before I go down or can I join a group already down there?
I don't suggest killing these unless you are with someone who can cure poison quickly, and don't solo em' until they are green and you can manage to take 10hp per tick and the rest of the shots
I'm currently soloing these guys as a level 19 human monk. There's quite a range of difficulty, from no exp. greens to tough blues.
My strategy is to use a shuriken to whack one guy in a room, pull the resulting 2 to 4 aggros to the edge of the water outside the first room, and feign. Repeat as necessary until you have one separated and kill.
In this manner, you can clear the rooms with reasonable speed, using bind to bring yourself back up to half health if you get poisoned (at 100 bind skill, you can bind slightly faster than the poison takes you down), and then mend and get back into the fray.
During forced downtime, I fish in the underground river! Heh heh.
Once a room or two is clear, the spawn rate is such that you can pretty much fight singles.
Is all this actually WORTH it?? Not if you're solely looking for experience or loot -- there are better places to hunt.
On the other hand, if you're looking for spider silks, you can get a stack of SWATCHES every couple hours this way ... whoo hoo!
