Glitch: We'll Play for a Long While

According to Glitch's site, "this is not something you've seen before." That's for sure! We tried out this unique MMO and got some details straight from Tiny Speck's president and co-founder.

So beside group halls, billboards and more control, what else do newbie glitches have to look forward to? First of all, there will be more and more skills and items released. Tiny Speck isn't on a “fixed update schedule,” according to Stewart; they can literally make up an item and introduce it within a couple of minutes. New skills will continue to be added, as well as hundreds of items, over the space of days and weeks instead of a large patch every couple of months.

More of the story of the Giants and the Rook will be revealed as well. The Rook “encompasses the dark, destructive force in us all.” They're not evil necessarily, Stewart said, but they're spoil-sports. In a chess match, an annoying player will trash-talk the entire time, but play by the rules. The Rook is like a player who smacks his hand across the playing board and sends the pieces flying. The Rook are supposed to show up in “neglected” parts of the world and cause havoc, but they're currently out of the Beta while their exact role is finalized. Stewart mentioned they will likely be used as a device to shake things up a bit, if things get too stagnant or the developers feel a change is needed. Nothing like a murder of evil crow gods to ruin your day!

The scarecrow will probably not keep the Rook away, but it looks neat!

As said, Glitch recently entered beta and has already received a ton of attention. Some 10,000 players have been sent invitations, and more are being invited every week. The beta testing also looks to slowly drop their stroke-testing format; currently they run at a few days of uptime, followed by a few days of downtime to test new content, but by the end of beta they're aiming for 100% uptime and live updates. The current schedule anticipates a few months until release, but Stewart says that anything could change.

My advice? Sign up today and hope to get lucky with a beta invite – Glitch is an imaginative, fun, social game that can be played on any browser. As the trailer video says, we'll play for a long while!
