It has been confirmed that En Masse Entertainment has undergone a round of layoffs.
First indications that jobs may have been lost came from Evan Berman on Twitter when he stated:
"Layoffs have occurred at En Masse. I was hit."
This sort of thing is pretty normal for EVE Online, but for TERA? Kind of surprising - a new feature was introduced for Vanarchs, a sort of political leader, which can toggle PVP, change taxes, or screw with players as they see fit. They can now gain power through guild-vs-guild warfare. However, some smart players realized this could be exploited, so pairs of guilds would rise to power through constant and uncontested mock combat, throwing more power onto them for no effort. Players are backlashing, but no word yet from En Masse if this was intentional or not (it probably won't be).
It's been two months since the official launch of TERA, and we've already seen a lot of activity from both players (did everyone catch those political ads for Vanarch on TeraTome.com?) and the developing studios, with luxury microtransaction items making their way into the store, new content being released, and all sorts of of major developments waiting in the wings. We caught up with TERA Producer Chris Hager to talk more about these new incoming changes, how TERA's political system is faring, and En Masse Entertainment's latest anti-RMT initiative, Chronoscrolls. Producers usually have a hand in a little bit of everything in game development, so Brian Knox is a good man to talk to about TERA's past and future. In an interview with DualShockers, he talks about localizing TERA, what makes the game unique, his view on the launch, and - of course - lots and lots of future plans, like eliminating repetition, changes to crafting, and in-development zones.
If you want to take a shot at TERA, you now have options. In addition to the free half-hour demo they've provided everyone with, you can download the full game and take it for a spin for a week, too. Really you don't have an excuse, unless the monthly fee scares you off. Don't worry - that's how I feel too.
If En Masse does one thing, it's listen - they've got lots of good stuff planned for the Lancer and the Warrior, two of TERA's primary tank classes. The changes are planned in response to both classes being called inflexible and stale, including new mobility and offense skills for both, a new resource type instead of the typical MP, and specific tweaks to make both stand out more. Also included are improved instances for both classes, such as fighting the argon queen Shandra Manaya. Also planned are 15 vs 15 cross-server PVP and new armor sets. Get hyped, TERA fans.
