If you are running this zone as a low end lvl 70 or an average to below average geared high level 70, with a T1 healing merc, then it's a suggestion to pacify the mobs around Magus to clear his agro radius.
What this means if you clear the mobs around him and then pull him on an angle towards the other mobs on his outside perimeter then you will defeat the whole purpose of single pulling him.
Countless times I see diligent groups breaking out of the level 60 ranks with their main to venture in Oceangreen only to forget the simple rule of straight line pull.
Nonetheless, straight melee works best, but so far there has been nothing he has resisted, except snare, but that's been stated already.
Would not advise on dot/rotting, that would be a bad strategy here.
As for a loot table, not sure you will ever get much from Magus, nobody wants farming of this mob as it would create an unecessary bottlekneck to complete this required quest.
Soloed him with 80 Ranger. He is not fast and does not summon. I was able to stay away from him running backwards with run speed 5. Got one add on the pull but rooted it and out run the aggro while kiting Magus. Dotted the Magus and fired away with my bow. Undead in the zone are spreadout enough to avoid adds.
