FINAL FANTASY XI Development Team

Chocobo Raising(06/01/2006) The FINAL FANTASY XI development team has finally addressed everyone’s cries for a system to raise their own personal chocobos. As announced at the FINAL FANTASY XI Fan Festival 2006 in Santa Monica, this new feature will be introduced in the next version update! Raising Your Chocobo [Basic Concept] Think of chocobo raising as an upgraded version of gardening. You can raise a chocobo by taking care of it for a minimal amount of time each day over a span of roughly 1-3 months, so even players with little time can enjoy this feature. Your chocobo may come in handy when it is fully grown! [Chocobo Eggs] Your first step is to get hold of a chocobo egg. Each egg is encoded with its own specific genetic information, and some players may come across an extremely rare variety… [Caring For Your Chocobo] You must work together with the chocobo stable employees in order to properly care for your chocobo. Feeding your chocobo and spending a bit of time with it each day will gradually build trust. You will be amazed at how your chocobo grows! Chocobo Variety Chocobos differ based on their color and type…and possibly more. Naming will be handled in the same way that dragoons and puppetmasters select their wyvern or automaton’s name, but there will be more options than ever before! Matchmaking Match up your chocobo with your friend’s chocobo and see what happens. If the match is right, you could end up with a new baby chocobo! Scores of other exciting features are scheduled to be added in the next version update, so keep checking the main site for more information in the next few days!

i dont think they are gona make it so you can call it anywhere because you could just sleep2 a mob get on bird and ride away to safty or have enogh time to rest or regroup, i am thinking you are going to have to go to a stable to get on you own bird, but i hope i am wrong, but it seems that SE never makes it so we (the players) have an upper hand on the mobs. just a thoght but i realy hope i am wrong cause some times with all the running it feels like i am playing FFXI jogging adventure!

Well what if it's like the NPC?

You can call in any of the same areas but disable it when you're in a battle. (That's unlike NPC.)

Make an item like.... Chocobo Whistle or something and have it a neck item. Then you wait for the equip and recast times like NPC.

maby it will b lie in the .//hack game where u cant logout if ur too close to an enemy ie u cant call choco if a mob is too close or if u have any enmity from it
So cool!

D: I can't wait! I hope you can pick your color too, would suck if you wanted like a blue one and ended up with red. Then you'd have to start all over. D:

I hope the eggs aren't too hard to get.

I do know one thing, SE will not make flying CHocobo's because that would nullifi the air ship, also we will have no Blue choco's for the boats would be nullified.

As far as differences between the birds I got a few idea's

Speed ( how fast they move )
Endurance ( How long they can ride )
Size (the Physical foot print of the bird )
Color ( Defines the birds special trait )
Agility ( How they handle turns )
STR ( Determins the birds Weapon skill damage )
Dex ( the birds ACC for attacks )
SATA (how often the bird knocks you off in anger)
INT ( How well the bird helps you dig up items)
Loalty(Weather the bird listens to your commands)

I just want to say that I have been (/cry)ing for this forever. I have long since thought that SE should have implemented some kind of "chocobo caller" or chocobo whistle" that players could use to call a chocobo to thier side. I think one of the main issues with the game is that traveling issue. Some of the Zones are quite large and running around can be a pain. I alsounderstand about the running around to explore. Raising a chocobo will be one small step for Van'Diel (^_^) Good luck all and let the races begin !!!
names

because it would cause massive lag issues. right now they just send the Monster type ID and the status, hp position of the monster. but if you named them they would no longer be just an ID they would have to be unique and instead of sending 16 bytes when you load a pet they would have to send 40 because names are 24 bytes long. so imagine loading 40 bytes per pet you see. and dynamis lag is bad enough :)

What i am mean has nothing to do with bit rate.
My g/f and I, sitting right next in rl, race through each zone. Everytime, while if on my screen we're side by side, it will show on her screen she's ahead and I'm behind and vise-versa.
Bird Racing?
# Jun 02 2006 at 7:15 AM Rating: Decent
I'm not quite sure how that's going to work.
If you've ever watched 2 screen at the same time, each person is a few milli-seconds to seconds off. So i'm wondering if it's going to be automatic or something.

Why can't we just name our chocobo ourselves? Like we name our own characters, I wish we could just type in the name for our chocobos. That would be so much better. *shurgg shoulders*

There will be Chocobo Racing. Check out the video at http://www.vanaguide.com and see for yourself.

This is cool, but I'm looking forward to another old Final Fantasy establishment...

(The Colosseum) (Can I have it?)

The Colosseum is a building in Aht Urghan Whitegate, which isn't available yet, but (hopefully) will be opened after the next update. For those who haven't played FFVI (FFIII on SNES) the Colosseum was the stage for a one-on-one battle between a player and a mob. The battle began by the player wagering an item they were carrying to the Colosseum. If the player is defeated by the mob, then the item is lost. If the player is victorious, then you still lose the wagered item, but you receive a prize of greater value. I love everything about it... just you and your foe, high risk, high reward. It will be interesting to see what kind of items can be won. I remember debating whether or not to turn Gem Boxes into Economizers by taking on a SrBehemoth in the orignal... good times.

Edit: typo.

Guess I haven't been paying much attention, but really..... When did "Attack" appear on the menu when riding a choco?? I clumbsly messed up on checking a gob from the back of my choco, and noticed I had selected "Attack", and not "Check"...... .. ??? .... so, after winning the battle out of breath... (8hp ><), I started asking around and no one seems to recall when this change happened, some still hadn't noticed the change at all.... <Hmmm...>
