I think that SE is doing a great job on their updates. I believe the more they update, the better the game will be. I wouldn't wanna walk into an area where I get frozen an lose every item I have or cant play. Hell, if you are trying to get to an area thats messed up, and you cant enter, then they have maintance to fix it. I dont see any difference except they are fixing it for you. Dont complain. Been playing since NA Release and I am still happy with the results I am getting from SE. Except the Laptop issue.....still....
Hip Hip hooray SE saves the day

Maintenance is maintenance, downtime is downtime. I think SE are doing a great job. The fact that EVERYTHING runs soo smoothly is amazing. Even with a few updates and what not, its awesome that everything continues well. My internet connection died recently and i thought, great, 6 weeks without FFXI :) (ADSL still not running) however, thanks to some friggen ingenious design, FFXI works well with 28.8K DIALUP!!!!! Im more then happy to wait something measly like 2 hours for them to continue the great service, heck even the 40 hour famine was worth it just to be able to continue to get the phenom that is FFXI :)

P.S. PEOPLE IN AUSTRALIA PLAY TOO!!!!!!
Whats the Problem???

You get mad at SE for having problems on their server, which is going to happen no matter what. You get mad at SE when they have to fix the problems on the servers. Alot of you guys gotta realize that there is something more going on here then YOU getting to that next level, or YOU skipped work so you can play the game. They have a job to do so let them do it. A few hours of game time is not going to kill you. Do something worthwhile with the time it is down. Interact with the real world, really it can be fun. I am as much a fan of FFXI as anyone, and yes from time to time i get frustrated when they have to do updates. I usually can only play a few hours a week. If you really have a problem with the servers being down for a few hours then you need to step back an re-evaluate you lives. Cause apparently you do not have one. If you are not this kind of person....Disregard

Ok, the last update they didn't give us very good information or customer service, but everyone f ucks up now and then.
I swear some of you are worse than people hooked on heroin. But then I see this **** too.

"OMG new swimsuits!!!? WOW OMG that Pwns and is l33t an other <insert teenage hacker colloquialism here>"

So, I guess all that down time is ok now cause they're adding more Ecchi hentai fanservice. You ***** till they add something stupid and then you're all gung-ho.

/end of rant

P.S. this isn't all of you, infact most of you that posted here as of now don't fit into this catagory...but some of you... get a f ucking life.

OMG, OMG, OMG, 2 HOURS WITHOUT PLAYING! OMG, OMG, OMG!

As long as it's for the good of everyone, it's good with me. Thank you Square-Enix for these wonderful updates. Although time consuming, it makes the game better and better.

"Play with your dog! hes probably in the backyard starving because you havent seen since the last update!"

-Thanks for reminding me. I do have a dog.

complaning?

why are ppl complanning its only a 2hr update im mean come on its not like 2hrs is gonna kill you
RE: complaning?

My reasons are the following
1st I think it was last week they made a 20 hours maintanance + like 5 hours cuz there were problems, after that the servers collapsed and I couldn't download the update so I was unable to play for like 40 hours -which I already payed for-, we had some LS planned events, had Chary's ToD so I lost a sky run and a joyeuse (already got it :P)
2nd they never are in schedule for the maintanances after 1 year and 1 month of playing this game I've never seen one end in time. SE's lack of seriousness to it's clients pisses me off. The marketing department sucks, they rock at making games, but keeping clients happy... They should work on that
3rd ALL maintanance are while **** are sleeping, have u seen a maintance from 4 AM EST to 6 AM? I haven't... maybe I can't recall plz correct me if I am wrong.
well those are the main reasons + some lil details...
I hope this helped ya understand other ppl's point of view

EDIT: lol they made it in time :P

Clearly you can't read... this update was from 10 AM to 12 Noon. Besides Europe this time is perfect for Japan and America. The Japanese have to quit playing a little early, and the Americans are all at work.

So unless you're a kid out of school, or from Europe, you're not losing a damn thing. Read before you spew **** from your mouth.

P.S. If you are a kid home from school, your opinion doesn't matter till your 21 anyways.
Read a book, educate yourself or something useful with the whole 2 hours of your time.

Apparently you don't pay much attention to past maintenance, or have any clue as to the great track record FFXI has. More often than not SE has completed maintenance ahead of schedule, and I'm always pretty surprised and impressed by this.

I will concede that last maintenance they got cocky, and chose a completely unrealistic timeframe for the amount of work they were doing. My understanding is they not only did a large server update, but physically moved the servers. I've mentioned before in other threads that had they completed all of this on time, I would have been in awe. There's no way they could have done all that in the amount of time they stated, so they did drop the ball on estimating the time there.

As for maintenance being conducted on Japanese off-peak times, uhm... you cater to the majority, not the minority. News flash: there are WAY more Japanese players than there are EU & NA combined. It's just good business practice to address the masses. Deal with it.

While it may be a good economical decision, it'd be nice to be fair once in a while. Say, every other maintenance be on JPN time instead of ours. With the market shifting from JPN to NA/EU, it's about time we had some equality with respects to the maintenance schedules. Let's not forget that the JPN already get an intrinsic benefit of less lag with most servers being based in JPN/asia.

1. Yeah huge update are a pain, I went 12 hrs without playing, but I am thankful for that, gave me time to get other stuff done. Plus that 40 hours probably works out to about 50 cents or something daft like that.
2. Updates are not an exact science, it can't be predicted to the milli-second. There could be problems, debugging codes, compatibility issues and things like that. In my opinion SE do try their best to finish on time and its usually very close to approx finish time.
3. SE is a JAPANESE company. Plus it's not like its vital to the world's survival, you probably have 2 guys keeping an eye on the servers during the night if that.

Yeah granted some people have different views and opinions on the whole matter. Perosnally after playing a few of the recent MMORPG games SE is one of the better companies and do try their hardest to get matters sorted out.

That doesn't sound like a quest to me, and if it doesn't benefit you, I don't know what to say.

i like the idea of festivals like this. and yes, i'll probably do the swimsuit quest. but instead of server downtime to add a quest with a reward that really doesn't benefit me, i'd much rather be farming so i can buy new equipment. its sad really....

I bet they'll postpone it like 3 hours... I think I haven't seen a server maintenance, without having to wait at least 2 more hours.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause." I'm kinda fed up of that sentence...

^^^^^^^^^^^^ So True.
