Details on Current Known Issues (Jul. 21)

Since the implementation of the latest version update on Jul. 18, 2005, several gameplay and system related issues have been discovered. Solutions to these issues are now being tested. Players will be informed as soon as solutions are finalized. The following issues have been discovered: - An issue in official Ballista matches where auto-balance entries would result in unbalanced forces. *This issue has been addressed on Jul. 21, 2005 4:15(PDT) - An issue wherein mannequins do not pose as they are intended. - An item, "a spool of wool thread" that is necessary for synthesizing "Yagudo Headgear" has been found missing in the NPC dialogues. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Error with Radeon 9000 series?

The same thing is happening to me whenever I run the game on 512 X 512 mode or 1024 X 1024 mode – some POL error occurs after some time but I can play in grainy 256 X 256 mode although its really difficult for me to see any mobs in that resolution. I hear that installing the updated Omega Drivers for ATI may solve this issue – has anyone tried it? By the way I run on a notebook also with Radeon 9200 mobility installed so its supposed to be compatible with the game…
DC'ing
# Jul 22 2005 at 11:51 PM Rating: Decent
I keep getting DC'ed, probably because of the festival and the load ont eh server right now, and it pissing me off big time. An I do have more than the minimum requirement to play the game here.

Has anyone brought this to SE's attention?

Was running FFXI on an IBM A31, sure its not a gaming machine but I have been playing fine until this update. Now it just crashes everytime I try to play. Who do I have to choke?

Good point, technically they didn't do anything wrong, but the game never should have let anyone run with less than the minimum requirements in the first place.

Let's hope the next big update isn't as much of a pain as this one was. lol
System Requirements
# Jul 22 2005 at 2:09 PM Rating: Decent
While I do sympathize with those users who are no longer able to access FFXI due to the graphics updates, I would like to point out that, on the original FFXI box, it states that the minimum requirement for running the game is either a NVIDIA GeForce model or Radeon 9000+ series graphics card. Frankly, they were being generous by including drivers for the lower end graphics cards to begin with. I don't see any reason for them to go through the hassle of updating their system to include cards that were not initially supposed to run the game to begin with.

As I said, I do sympathize with those users who can no longer play because of this, but it was stated, very clearly, in the minimum requirements box, what would be necessary to run this game. So, good luck with your issues, but don't blame Square Enix for your choice to neglect the requirements.

A person buys a game from the shop.

It works on his computer, so he keeps it.

Over a year passes and SE "FORCES" an update which causes his game to no longer work.

It's not like it didn't work on day one and could have returned the game.
will SE comply with vid card issues?
# Jul 22 2005 at 1:16 PM Rating: Decent
so are we getting any relief from SE about the bogus video stream now for laptop users or just the cold shoulder?
Did they just give up?

When did Square become so evil? It might just be me but I find something terribly wrong when a company does an update to their game that screws alot of their users out of gameplay. I could have understood if they would have said that the video card issue would be something they'd look into, but when they say they are not going to fix it and get a new video card or cancel, it's basically like telling the consumer to sit on it and rotate.

Sometimes it seems like they're purposely doing updates to ***** over and **** off players. It's bad enough when they gimp jobs but when the system requirements change due to a bad update and they refuse to fix it, it crosses the line.

Oh well. . . I'm a big fan of Square, the Final Fantasy series, and video games of all genres. I guess all I can hope and wait that things will get better. I wish all of you that are still having trouble good luck ^-^

Question for all you laptop people complaining about POL crashing.. are any of you NOT using an ATI card? And those of you who are using ATI, are you using ATI's drivers, or 3rd party? ATI is notorious for having extremely badly writen drivers.
Problems since update

I realize that I probably won't be the last person to post this, but I need to vent. Before the damn July update, my PC version of FFXI was running perfectly fine, running at a crisp resolution of 1024 x 758 texture resolution and 1024 x 1024 overlay resolution. Right after getting the update, I can no longer play at those settings. The game would go past the PlayOnline Version confirmation thingy and right before getting to the FFXI Main Menu (create character, etc), the game would crash, go to my desktop, and then PlayOnline Viewer dialog window said it experienced an error. So I decided to change some of my FFXI config. settings around, but NOTHING works. For example, I changed Screen Size to 800 x 600 texture resolution and 1024 x 1024 overlay texture and I got pretty close to the pre-update screen resolution. However, when I did this, I could play the game for no more than 10 mins and then it would crash and go to my desktop, WITHOUT giving me any kinda POL error message. Like I said before, I tried all combinations of FFXI config. settings and nothing works. FYI, I'm playing FFXI on a Sony Vaio GRV550 laptop with a ATI Mobility Radeon 7500C 32MB Video Card. If anyone else is having problem with their screen resolution, PLEASE post something. Thank you.

I am a technician that works for one of the larger computer companies (I can't say which one to protect my job) and I just had a call from an FFXI player that got directed here by a GM to download updated NIC drivers for their system to resolve this. I do not think it will work because his system was working fine before the update, however just incase everyone here is GM calling on this issue, make sure your NIC drivers are updated before you place the GM call.

And yes, the system was a laptop

#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 21 2005 at 3:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yeah, you completely forgot the part where you f**ked up my favourite job in the game and totally screwed me over on damage. What's the point in me paying 100-200k an exp session to do gimped damage? This is obviously a mistake so fix it immediately...

prices wouldn't be an issue if people weren't so greedy with prices on arrows (well, anything really). That and a smart ranger would craft their arrows and shihei (if subbing nin).

I've played rng, and I agree with the range vs. damage.

i agree. ok im not a rng or nin in any respect but why the hell would u pay the prices for tools/ammo when u can craft it and save all your money? when i do lvl nin past 11 im gonna lvl woodworking so i can craft seihei(sp?). ill love it in the future because if i run out of tools in a party and i cant go get tools i can craft them.

I use a normal PC not a laptop but I do use a controller. It's a Logitech Wireless Rumblepad 2. It has the exact button placement a a PS2 controller. The thumbsticks even "click" for R3/L3.

My computer recognized it immediatly when I plugged in the reciever(gotta love Plug and Play). Although, it did ask for the drivers off the install disk. I didn't even install the button remapping tool. I just turned on the "Enable Gamepad" option in the FFXI Config utility and it worked.

Apperantly, from what I've learned from my LS buddies on PS2's, the buttons are mapped EXACTLY like the PS2.

There is available at most Wal-marts a PS2-usb adapter. With your driver set, you shouldn't have any troubles configuring the controller to play exactly as it does on the PS2. I play on PC and use a Saitek controller that does quite well. Good luck. ^^

I have my laptop set up as Compact Keyboard controls:

W,A,S,D (walk keys) I,J,K,L (camera movement keys)
E = activate (use)
F = Cancel
R = Toggle Run
Z = Toggle Walk
Q = Open Menu
Y = Switch menu (to sort item list)
V = Switch from First person to 3rd person
Tab = select cycle targetable objects
Ctrl = brings up Ctrl macro menu
Alt = bring up Alt macro menu

No mouse even needed.

Very good way of minimizing a lot of headache issues dealing with controls.

[ ] to move target left or right

I have one hand on the left keyboard covering: WASD and my right hand covering the right side of the keyboard for IJKL.

I use my Dell laptop that i got for christmas last year, its a latitude 610 i believe, and while i can get into the game... after a minute or so it crashes out, saying an error occurred with Playonline. Before this update, my laptop worked FFXI beautifully, sans a bit of lag from dial up internet.. and now i can't hardly get on. Is it the people still downloading? Or is it something else?

Yeah there seems to be a problem with the PC version I theorize... here's why:

I have the PS2 and PC versions (yeah, I spent ~$100 when the HDD came out XP).

The PS2, after the update, I logged in and I got to play on the first try (of logging in). Logged out again. Repeated the same procedure and played again without any troubles.

The PC version... got to updates... logged in... tried to play, but hindered by the DREADED POL-1160... tried like 123645374 times to get in and it failed... did diagnostic system check and found "corrupted" FFXI files. Uninstalled everything and reinstalled everything and updated again and it works fine. Probably something was up with the download process and files getting corrupted... who knows...

That's my $.25

Who knows...[link=http://pizazz.info/pizazz.mov <--- That may be causing the problem...
