Square Enix Policy Concerning Third-Party Tool Use

We have recently discovered some of our players to be using third-party "hacking" tools to move their characters instantaneously around dungeons and battlefields alike. In FINAL FANTASY XI, the use of any software or hardware not provided by or approved by Square Enix is strictly prohibited. While we make no specific official announcements regularly to this effect, we do in fact implement a variety of devices to counter such behavior with each version update, and we duly punish any and all players we find to be using such tools. In today's version update, we implemented counter-measures to address the irregular movement described above. We can and will take further action as necessary against players caught using similar tools in the future as well. Thank you for your cooperation, and thank you again for playing FINAL FANTASY XI.

guys, i read a post of SEs one time saying how the only way to legally ban the gilsellers was to be 100% sure they are gilsellers. as obvious as it is to us, it wouldnt hold up much in a court of law, and u know they would take it there or someplace like it. as for SE being greedy...theyve alrdy banned alot of ppl from FFXI. dont get mad at SE, get mad at gilsellers...
-.-

I have nothing to say about the Windower crap, didn't really even know about it until today.

About the gilsellers, it isnt some greedy person in his house with several accounts, it is a greedy person owning a sweatshop in China, Hong Kong or any other country where you can legally pay some poor kid $130 a month or so for 10 hours a day work 5 days a week.
I heard something(I hear alot of things, and they are never true, but what the hell) one time about IGE owning a nice chunk of stock in SoE.
SE doesnt employ the gilsellers, it is SoE that does that.
And if they did start banning accounts for gilselling and making one of their major stockholders lose money from it, IGE could rock SoE's world.
And the gilsellers arent good, the smarter person who employs them has downloaded a hack, or cheat, that allows macros to constantly tab through Montsers and find the NMs as they are popping, and then Provoke will go off as soon as it spawns, even as its name is still in the gray.
Watch some bot in the dunes sometimes and pay close atention to their head, you will see what I mean. I sat there 2 hours one time and waited for the Emp to spawn, and Jaclolount was able to claim it while the Emp's name was still in the gray, as it was becoming yellow. But this doesnt really matter, flew off of track.

Whenever a GM will not do anything to those F***s that are obviously gilsellers, just remember, the company that gilseller works for could very well be paying part of the GMs paycheck.

About the update....1188 Shihei in one item slot is going to kick ***. ^_~

I am done.

LMAFO there not going to do anything serious about it, >.> if you havent figured it out by now here let me explain...Squenix is becoming very money hungry...every account they ban from the game is $12.95+(NA currency) a month they loose, why dont you think they wont kick the gil sellers.
Simply put they work in groups of 6, thats 6 seperate accounts not only is that $77.70(NA currency again) a month but not to mention the purchace of the game its self if you do the math it comes out to almost $1000.00 a year. just useing that as a rough figure so dont take it entirely serious...at most they will warn them then Gm Jail then temp ban them, they wont kick them. back to the whole gilseller for anyone who has ever delt with a gm on such things knows what they say something to the effect of "at this time we lack the evidence to do anything" and for anyone who knows anything about how a MMORPG is ran system admin have logs of everything. you know when (example:) player X gets sent 10 mil from from someone they have never even talked to in game much less >.> who would just up and send someone 10mil, i mean come on

I've actually seen these cheat(ers) in action. it's very disheartening i'll tell you that. but to see that SE is atleast TRYING to fix the problem, it makes me not so angry as SE. (though there are still many things that i don't like -.-;) they COULD not even TRY to fix it, but they are. and for that, i hereby give SE a blue participation ribbon. @=3
teleporting
# Jul 10 2005 at 5:32 PM Rating: Decent
ever since this damn 'fix' for teleport hacks, my character randomly teleports to other zones just about in the middle of doing anything.

for example, i was fighting in a cape T. party, its all going great - great exp - they pull a mob, my character disappears and im in kuftal tunnel, PT dies, PT disbands.

example 2, im in jeuno. [teleport-mea][can i have it?] 500g [please invite me.] so i got my tele, as soon as i appeared in tahrongi before my game even zoned it, it was still on the black screen, it cancelled loading thjat screen and started loading again, and poof im in sarutabaruta, now i have to run ALL the way back to the crag for a choco.

example3, i was just camping Intulo for magic slacks, killing efts, poof all of a sudden im in i think its bubu? there was shoal pugil infront of me i dont remember what zone

whenever this happens, i appear at a zone entrance and my camera angle sticks. everytime i speak to someone at SE they just tell me to speak to someone else.

before this supposed 'urgent fix' which was put in place i had never even heard about teleport hacks, and now my characvyer is randomly teleporting to different zones at any times it wants, and the most inconvenient times possible. i can link nothing in common with the different teleports so i cant see how i am causing it.

no i am not using any kind of hack.

SE, you ******* suck balls. you ****** my game, and you won't fix it because you're too busy wasting your time on little matters that nobody gives a **** about, such as peoples bazaar messages. great ******* job you idiots!! now i cant even play the damn game without getting teleported to some random other zone

OK, my $0.02 - I don't post on here much but this topic is one I should voice my concerns over.

First of all - big thumbs up to SE on what actions they have been taking. Speed Hacks, Clipping Hacks and Bots should always be illegal in-game. Anything which is detrimental to other peoples enjoyment of the game should be dealt with in a zero-tolerence manner - something I don't think SE has quite gotten the hang of yet, their punishments are generally quite soft. But they're getting there.

But a few concerns. First, "gilsellers"... the amount of times I've seen someone cry, "Don't teleport ________, they're a gilseller!" is really depressing - it's the FFXI equivilent of a witchhunt. Burden of proof, and all that. It's just really disheartening to see people throwing accusations around at people - often, with no real purpose except to make the victims life a misery. Why don't we complain about THAT problem? It's a witchhunt, and a lot of innocent players who have worked their butts off in the game are being labelled as "gilsellers" by total (bleep) n00b-y idiots. When are we going to address THAT problem, eh? Or is the enjoyment of a few good, honest players a good price to pay to perhaps attempt to name-and-shame one genuine gilseller? I think it's awful that people get away with shouting this stuff in Jeuno. To me, it's insulting and degrading for those being accussed, as I said, I believe many of which may be honest players... I think my point on this topic is, irrespective of what evidence you have - you have an issue, take it to a GM, NOT the Shout feature...

And last point here, I hear a lot about the Windower - ok, it's a hack yadda yadda... but I still wonder exactly how it is detrimental to the enjoyment of others? From what I recall, people have been asking for SE to allow windowing for a LONG time (ever since I joined a year and a half ago, at least). It's a shame that people have to use a 3rd-party tool to window the game, but SE should have, and still should, implement a windowing function into the game. The 3rd-Party windower doesn't really change the way you play the game other than you can window it and check the web, e-mail or boot up things like Winamp or iTunes or whatever your fave music player is. I think SE should get on and modify things to allow FFXI to run in a windowed mode. I don't see how this hurts other people, or how it hurts the game overall. Maybe using the 3rd-party hack isn't the best way to make the point, but I think we should still keep asking for the ability to window the game... I'd certainly like it, since I'm looking at starting other crafts and the ability to window down and check recipe lists is quite appealing.

Overall though - I think SE do a good job. Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, I'll grant you that, but good enough... I wish they were a little harder on some things but it's all about "burden of proof"... and if you have no proof of malice, or intent, or records, then there's not much you can do... but that's how many legal systems across the globe work, and it works just fine for the most part...
Its not SE's fault
# Jul 09 2005 at 1:19 PM Rating: Default
Well lots of people are defending Windower or w/e it is probably because they want to protect the thing thats made game play better them. Also lots of others have been talking about how SE is stupid in trying to stop hacking, well heres my 2 cents. Dont make fun of SE for trying to stop hacking, at least their trying to make gameplay fun for those who play it fairly, we pay money to play this game and people who exploit it to gain unfair advantages are taking away from those who play it ligit, so dont say that SE is stupid or anything like that, SE is just trying to give us our moneys worth of fair gameplay. But in doing so they do have to try to stop windower, its not their fault its those people who hack the game to gain unfair advantages that are forcing SE into doing things like this, so your just gonna have to live without windower, its a small price to pay for the others in the game who have been robbed of gameplay because of hackers and keep getting robbed. And someone said that SE doesnt care what happens as long as we pay...they do! their trying to stop hacking and botting, ect. because their losing customers who dont want to pay money on a game their not enjoying anymore. thats my 2 cents...
The state of FFXI
# Jul 09 2005 at 11:56 AM Rating: Good
I am totally P***ed off that there are so many Bots on FFXI, I have spent a total of nearly 100 hours camping NM's for pieces of equipment that I need for jobs and I am yet to get 1 single drop. I have called GM's on "Notorious Gilsellers" many times, I even managed to compile a database of DEFINITE gilsellers by using a little Espionage and was told that not only did they already know that ALL these 130+ Characters were gilsellers, but they were powerless to do anything about them, WTF!!!

I also reported someone for selling a couple of stacks of Sole Sushi really low to drop the price thus making everyone do the same and then buying ALL the Sole Sushi on AH for ridiculously Cheap and selling it back on AH for a higher Profit, Surely this is a Monopoly, The one thing SE said they were cracking down on, so I reported him to a GM, To my Surprise, the answer I got was.......

" I am sorry to say that this user is in no way in violation of the user Agreement, in fact, it makes good business sense ".

Then I said to him that Monopolies were outlawed in the Terms of Contract and that a big thing was made out of the fact that people making monopolies were to be banned for unfair play. The answer I got in return was.......

" Yes _________, That is very true, the problem being that we have no authority to impose any sanctions on AH or interfere with the economy in any way "

Then I suggest to him that I get a Huge Consortium together, buy every unit of one particular item and sell them for 10x the price on AH and continue to buy every one that was placed on AH after and sell it for 10x the price we paid, I summed this up at the end by saying that I would destroy the economy of the server and ruin the game for everyone. He replied......

" That makes very good Business Sense, after all, it's a dog eat dog world ".

I was totally bewildered, these are the people who are always saying they will stamp out 3rd Party Bots and Game Enhancers, Gilsellers and Monopolisers and they are totally Nonchalant about the Blatant " Organised Crime " that is going on under their noses, WITH THEIR KNOWLEDGE!!!

I say that SE Should " Put up or Shut up!!! ", If they want people to follow the rules, then maybe they should remove the Cancer that is killing this game - The Gilsellers, NM bots, Monopolisers and the Greedy Dictators that run the FFXI " Underworld ".

This is just my opinion, I want everyone to have a fighting chance, everyone getting the armour they badly need to level with and not being excluded from parties because the Can't afford Emperor Pin, Leaping Boots or Erase and even more basic equipment than that. I don't want to see someone else making money out of what I have spent 3 weeks and 500k gil levelling cooking for.

Notorious Monsters are for the Masses, not just the few who use bots to CHEAT their way to riches, BCNM are for the higher players, by all means, sell BCNM drops for whatever you wish, I don't have a problem with that........... A new player going to buy Gil because he can't even afford the simplest of armour, there is something wrong there.

SE must be laughing their Asses off over this whole thing, they are raking in Millions of Dollars, Pounds, Euros, Yen and every other currency every month and what do we get in return??

1) Poor servers
2) Unstable Gameplay
3) A Gaming World filled with " Organised Crime ".
4) A total lack of Respect for the paying Customer.

There are so many I could list, Basically, they have created a world where the Evil dominate the Good, where money is Master and where the Weak get crushed while the Strong get Stronger or should I say, Rich get Richer.

I know for a fact when I started in October 2004, I had to fend for myself, I started the game with nothing and I built myself to a personal fortune of a steady 2 million, by crafting and using the small profits to buy my new armour, having spent months mining, then 3 weeks levelling Cooking from 0 to 97, every step of the way was of my own making, a little moral support from friends I made along the way, but I was the one who made the money for myself, the hard way!! Now I DON'T resent the fact that I DIDN'T buy Gil because I played honest and I came good in the end.

So anyway, that's what I think, I believe in Fair play and even though I did things the hard way, I will never turn my back on someone that needs help, because I Remember how hard it was to be a NOOB lol.

Peace to all my Friends in GINI and a Safe Journey to the other World (WoW) for those sadly departed.

although i agree with most of the things you said... there are few things that i feel are untrue or not the "whole" truth

for one, i partly aggree that low level armour (such as leather gear) cost to much at the AH. although if the character wasn't stupid he would realize it is fairly cheap amount at the local store... and! after about level 20 the armour is actually always cheaper at the AH than it is a a store so that means that SE is actually selling armour such as lv. 24 chain armour, lv. 46 banded armour, and many other sets for more than the players are! so the most basic armour really isn't a problem cuase players are actually selling it cheaper. I was already kinda disapointed with the game when i actually had to go out and take a about 3 hours or so to make money for my second armour set at the game prices that don't change... also, this game is harder and more time consuming making money than most MMORPGs so i would blame SE for making this game the way that you always need money but it takes endless hours to get it. i do not beleive that making money should be "easy" but it should be at least half fun. mabye make low level crafting a bit easyer, or have the more expensive low level items drop more, mabye make beastmen drop more gil. i don't know about you, but i'd rather go out and kill a bunch of orcs to make gil rather than killing endless crawlers all day that i have a about 1:20 chance of geting the valuable item. on top of that, i don't blame the players for overpriceing stuff, becuase if they sold it to a shop they shop would give close to nothing. i don't have a problem with people that hunt and get good enough to get the NM almost every time, becuase, what are we to do for gil? to be honest i blame SE 100% for gilsellers. if it were a little easyer, less time consuming, and more fun to get gil we wouldn't have this problem becuase players could have fun and make gil at the same time.

everything else, i aggree with.

to sum it up... it was the games bad design that leads to these kind of problems not so much greedy people.

Sucks For Honest Gamers
# Jul 09 2005 at 12:41 AM Rating: Decent
I am Thf on the Titan Server and have never owned an EMP Pin. I decided enough was enough, got there and a kind BST was nice enough to who me spawn points and said see those three people they are each standing in the main spots. Good luck trying to get it from them, they are gil sellers. I thought maybe i could beat them. WRONG. Needless to say i wasted a ton of time just to get smocked by those three perps. They got the drop and one ran back to jueno to sell. Makes no sense how SE or GMs can't see stuff like this happen. Just look at the damn sell list. Now to a possible solution, i don't post much, so please don't rip me a new one. ***What if SE made all of those high drops like emp pin and peacock charm Rare/Ex drops, so they can't be sold or traded. You get it you use it. Yes i know it could take away potential money earnning by camping NMs, but there are others ways to make gil. People can get into crafting more or farming normal items, etc.***Another viable option someone already mentioned, just put a cap on the amount certain items can be sold for, but personally i like the first one ^^***
Happy hunting all you honest adventurers, cheaters eat me!!
RE: Sucks For Honest Gamers
# Jul 09 2005 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
yea but people dont realize about the rare/ex thing is that if a person had a full inventory it would go into a treasure pool then all they'd have to do is shout emp pin lot for $$$ then it would be LIVE bidding and prolly get more expensive. plus there would be a large line of people waiting for the emp pin or leaping boots or whatever. so claiming it would be just as hard.

i like my idea that they should make GIL a rare/ex type thing. make it so we cant trade gil or send it via delivery box to another player. but able to trade to npc's and buy stuff from npc's and bazaars.
New Windower Is A Good Thing!
# Jul 08 2005 at 11:04 PM Rating: Decent
IMHO, this new windower v3.2 is great, especially for Summoners! there is a new feature called BloodPace that is a timer for your blood pacts that works even when the avatar is dismissed. This is a key element of what needs to be done to fix summoner and someone did it before SE took their sweet time deciding if they really think SMN is a gimp job or not. Also, it makes parties better with a exp chain timer and it lets you see your party mates TP which eliminates spam of tp macros. On top of that, it lets you run the game in windowed mode. whats wrong with that people?
My 2 Cents
# Jul 08 2005 at 8:25 PM Rating: Decent
Some third party tools have no bearing on Gameplay or other players, like windowers. I was told that using it is illegal. It seems though that when I don't use Windower I get disconnected every 5 to 10 minutes. When I use it I can play just fine AND check my e-mail if I want or look up a quest or mission on Alla. or even check that other website for airship arrival times rather than stand around Jeuno looking at shouts all day hoping for a party invite and praying I don't get disconnected. Perhaps if SE doesn't want people to break all these crappy rules, they should make the game more user friendly. Like fix all the DC problems, come up with their own windower program, put a cap on AH prices to at least slow down gil selling, fix the lag, open more servers (Atomos has been a test server forever. Get on the ball SE). Banning your customer base for breach of some of the more petty rules, no matter how successful you are is idiotic when there are other options. Not only have I been a customer for a year with two accounts and 6 characters, but I've also brought them buisness by signing up friends and THEIR mules. Losing me as a customer because I get banned or because I just get sick of the BS and quit may not dent their pockets, but losing a hundred or a thousand who think the same way as me might sting just a bit. I'm all for fair play, but it goes both ways. If I'm paying for a product (unlike WOW which is free I understand), I want an optimum product and top of the line service. If I can't level because I get DCed in the middle of a battle, log back in and see that I died, that's bad buisness. Anyway, I'm done

I think its fairly obvious. If you want to play this game, play by the rules. As for anyone going I dont think SE can do this or SE can do that, they can do anything they ******* want to cause we agree to follow their rules. If anyone has a problem with this then thay obviously are doing things to cheat other players. Frankly I am more offended by some ******* stealing my claims or being able to see an NM pop before it even spawns than some rich ************* who sucks so ******* hard he cant earn his own gil. I dont give a **** what armor your wearing, how does that make my game play anyless enjoyable. I think that its good SE is starting to crack down on this ****. Also, I'm glad that they are maintaning a zero tolerance policy on gil sellers, sold accounds, hackers and 3rd parties. If you are making money off of playing this game by doing any of the above then obviously you mind breaking a law. Not a game rule, but the ******* law. Besides, if your good enough to be doing **** like this and not get caught, go to work for SE, at least you get a retirement package and vacation time. End of rant!

wtf are you talking about?? only ONCE has SE ever done anything about gil-sellers, and all it amounted to was banning about 20 accounts per server. ZOMFG so waht?? tath's like nothing. sold accounts? if you buy an account and flat out tell a GM that you did, all they're going to do is put you in jail for a couple hours. FACT. hackers and 3rd party software? for the most part there isn't anything they can do about it anyway. and so far i havne't seen them ever try to do anything.

RE: how?
# Jul 08 2005 at 4:33 PM Rating: Decent
the problem is… SE is not able to catch the botters/hackers in the act. one, SE can’t just delete someone elses account because a player has told them “well i saw him do things i can’t do”. two, theres not enough GM’s to even catch the hackers/botters. three, SE is focused on other matters which are irrelevant, one being widowers. and lastly, lets say SE does find and banned a lot of hackers/botters in the game, do you really think that it will be over? do you really think they will quit? a lot of the hackers are gilsellers and they need this game to get real cash, to them this is there job. all they will do is buy another account and start the process all over again, it won’t stop…. it can’t stop. my theory is the only way these people will stop is if this game goes belly up and a lot of people quit playing , therefore they will lose there business and have no reason to play, or… (and i say “OR” loosely), the noobies out there stop buying from the net and work for there Gil, but we all know that will never happen >.>;
