New Year Rivalry: Moogles vs. Goblins?!

The Starlight Celebration was a resounding success. Thanks to your help, the cities of Vana'diel are overflowing with cheer, and smiles have returned to the children's faces. The moogles, however, seem unusually glum in contrast to the joyful atmosphere. "There weren't supposed to be so many of them searching for the cards, kupo..." "Well, we can play that game, too, kupo..." The chocobo-riding Goblins frantically searching for something outside the city walls appear to be the cause of the moogles' mood. Try talking to a gloomy moogle and see what you can do to help! How to Participate: The moogles have cleverly hidden seven types of Tenshodo trading cards all over Vana'diel and challenged the Goblins to find them. Try checking the areas of "Overturned Soil" and collect the cards before the Goblins do! Checking the "Overturned Soil" as a party will increase the number of cards found at one time. Gather as many friends as possible, and help each other collect all seven types! Once you have a full set of cards, trade them all to the moogles to receive your reward! Event Areas: West Ronfaure South Gustaberg East Sarutabaruta La Theine Plateau Konschtat Highlands Tahrongi Canyon Jugner Forest Pashhow Marshlands Meriphataud Mountains Batallia Downs Rolanberry Fields Sauromugue Champaign This event will run from December 26, 19:00 (PST) to January 9, 19:00 (PST).

Recharge?
# Jan 06 2005 at 7:07 PM Rating: Decent
Okay.... just wrapped up this quest in Sandy and scored the collar. I heard though that this thing will only teleport you 10 times and then needs to be recharged (I was told this by a square rep) my question is... how do you recharge it... cause apparently the sqaure rep is suffering from amnesia....
Need help
# Jan 04 2005 at 6:03 PM Rating: Decent
Can anyone tell me exactly how this is done, and what is the reward(s)?

Any info on this quest would be greatly appreciated. :)

Not to be terribly rude, but you could start by actually reading the thread...

Not to be rude but I did read the thread and most of it is people talking about the birds for the New Year thing.
RE: Need help
# Jan 05 2005 at 4:50 PM Rating: Decent
Alrighty then, I'd recommend starting on the first page of the thread with Dainslaif's post titled "Quest Guide" and then go on from there for helpful hints and personal experiences that others, including myself, have posted. :)

Happy Hunting, but don't waste any time because the event is over in 3 days.
Ebisu card
# Jan 04 2005 at 7:05 AM Rating: Decent
I found a lot of the Ebisu Card ("lost" 5 of them in minutes) in Rolanberry at (J-7). Also the *********** Daikoku and Hotei Cards.

Bunnies!
# Jan 03 2005 at 1:44 AM Rating: Decent
Yay! I got my bunny suit. :) I have a female mule character and I thought it'd be cute for her to have. I may go on to get the tele item since I managed to score an Ebisu pretty easily.

Edit: Went for the whole set partied with a 30RDM and got it all done in about 30min by starting in a low level area (WRonf) and then moving up one area (La Theine). Got the tele collar for SdO and was all excited to equip it, but you have to L15 and I'm only at 6. ><

Advice: Partying helps, but make sure everyone knows that you're focused on the cards and split up to cover more ground. :P The pt I was in wanted to level up at the same time, but we were in WRonf(!) Oh, and definitely check adjacent areas. I searched all over for Benten and Jurojin in WRonf and lost a couple hours doing it only to get fed up and go into La Theine and find them both within 5 minutes...

Happy hunting!

I and others I know have noticed this as well...that card is just harder to find in Gusta and benten is very common while dai and bishamon are very common in Ronfaure and ebisu is more common there (but still rare)...it's weird but it seems that the cards do vary in rarity in different areas

Traded Silent Oil to the Bird of Wonder and got the "New Year's gift." The Bird kept the Silent Oil.

The New Year's gift enhances fishing skills.

Don't know if anyones figured this out, but Fablinix is the gobbie from the "A Little Goblins Adventure" piece on the FFXI main site.
In the latest episode, he has some wierd spell cast on him to remember to tell all the players that he would be in game soon (hint this event)
If no ones taken the time to read any episodes, its corny but worth a few laughs ^^

Spent a long time playing with the birds...
Bird of Wonde,/ Bird of Peace and their kids (birdlings, 3-4 pink ones and a brown one (clearly takes after the Bird of Wonder) :) Anyway, they crisscross an area a couple times before leaving it in a loopy /\/\/\/ fashion. If you trade all 7 cards to the bird of wonder he doesnt give you anything. Same with either of the other ones. But trading any single card to the Bird of wonder causes him to cast (you just get the effect - no animation) a random buff on you. He'll either put Protect, Shell, Shock spikes, or Enthunder on your character, and he wont even take the card from you. In fact you can also trade the same card to him multiple times to get all the buffs. Seems kinda useful to lowbies levelling in an area with the birds in it.

Also, he speaks in birdese "Kwah Kwah"! and tells you that it is the year of the rooster, and that youre going to get fleas.

Hehehehe!!

I traded the "Bird of Wonder" a sleepshroom and got "Kwah Kwah (ah it's the year of the rooster!) Kwa~h... Kwahk Kwak. (your year will be fairly good.)

And I got shock spikes as my brief enchantment!

Also, I have heard Flablinix mutter such wonderful lines as, "Looking for cards in all the wrong places." with a musical note afterwards... and we (hopefully) all know what that comes from!

Trade anything with it... Gil, Food, even rare items, it does not take them away...

But its in light of Chinese New Year (its the year of the rooster :P) -- aparantly last year they were monkeys... (as it was the year of the monkey!)

Can't wait for it to be the year of the Dragon! ;)

U can move
# Dec 31 2004 at 2:12 AM Rating: Decent
Actually, if u have the worm custome there is a way u can move, but very slowly, just hold down the control stick to any direction and equipt and unequipt a piece of ur body, hands, boots, whatever equipment that make u disapear for an instant, then the worm will disapear and aappear in the direction you were keepind the control stick.

And u got to go all the nations to obtain all the belts and necks.
where?

Just used it. I thought I would be able to travel around and come up above ground, but I was just frozen in one spot. Deactivated the belt but I was still frozen and had to temporarily log out to move again!

Really felt like a curse...

Anyone else used this? btw I'm playing on a ps2.

i did this quest in gustaberg, and helped out 5 others in 45 minutes we all had traded in all three sets of cards, and had enough cards to travel to another city to trade them in. i did this on foot with my 46 thf, treasure hunter seemed to help find the uncommon and rare cards with ease

You can get all 6 cards in 10 minutes, if you do it right.. without TH ^^

1) Head to Rolanberry Fields with a party of 6, one of which should be a WHM 36+. Start digging. As soon as you dig up an Ebisu (first or second dig, guaranteed at that rate) for each party member, lot and make sure everyone gets one; or, you could just blitzkrieg it, and keep digging up cards till you have 2 or 3, making sure Ebisu is one of them.

2) As soon as each PT member has at least Ebisu (but a couple of the others wouldnt hurt either, Benton and **** I think were kinda rare in next section) Teleport to Mea. Tahrongi Canyon is a busy place sometimes with the card hunt, but if you have Ebisu and Benton, as soon as you start digging you'll fill out your set in no time.

With Warp Scrolls or BLM subs, you can be back to your city to trade your sets of cards for your rewards in no time whatsoever

Also, a misconception has been floating around.

Although people see Gobins riding Chocobos, which is just ridiculous in itself, you CAN NOT check the 'Upturned Soils' from the chocobo. It just doesnt work. What DOES work is having your PT spread out and have one person on Choco pointing out spots, that can work famously.

But I did have a question / hypothesis - Flabinix has been seen riding a Chocobo (I thought he died in my storyline, maybe that's why I haven't seen him yet; sorry if I spoiled anything for anyone)..

If you see named Goblins, write down the names, and go see them with your nation's necklace or a costume belt equipped. Maybe it will trigger another quest, either now or after this quest is done around Jan 9/10 '05.

Best of luck all, have fun with this quest! Not quite as hard as the Summerquest of last year, if you ask me, but it was fun to meet a bunch of random people that way...

even if you bring your STARTER moogle. all 7 he will give you 4 back, he takes the first three and gives you lamp, then he takes second 3 and gives you the belt, finally go get those same 6 and he will give you the belt. you CANNOT skip the first 2 sets on your start moogle. once you change to another town tho, you only need to turn in 7, you can skip the lamp and belt if you want
Can you

Question

I have all 7 and did the Sandy part except for the acutal neck thingy. I decided Im not going to because I got rank 5 and It wont recharge so Im heading to bastok for that belt. My questions are. If Ive done the furniture part for 1 country do I have to do it in another? and.... Can worms move?

Once you've done the furniture combo, you can choose to do the costume belt combo or the warp item combo in any of the three nations.

Ok, well I'd thought this would've been done by now, but can anyone post where exactly the dirt is?
RE: Location, location, location
# Dec 28 2004 at 4:20 PM Rating: Decent
lol the overturned dirt seems to spawn in very random locations, but there are usually a few close together. I got all 7 cards very quickly in batalia. Tried handing in all 7 at once but the moogle only took 3 and gave me the furnishing piece. Then i gave him the other 4 and he only took 3, and gave me a belt. so I still have my episu card left. I guess i need to go back out and collect the other 6 again to get the other item. I did it on foot with a 2 person party so we could cover more ground. After about 10 min in batalia we had at least 3 of every card in the treasure pool
