WildStar to Launch Megaservers

Carbine has opted to bring the Wildstar community together with Megaservers.

In a lengthy post, Carbine Studios has detailed its plans to bring megaserver technology to Wildstar in the near future. To those not familiar with megaserver technology, it is a way of allowing a large amount of players to play on a single "megaserver" in order to increase activity and the availability of crucial game functions – such as groups for dungeons and raiding. Cougar had this to say in the post detailing the technology:

"In the near future, we will be implementing Megaservers for WildStar. Going the Megaserver route means that we vastly increase server capacity allowing for greater critical mass of our player base, resulting in more people, more groups, more activity and more raids...more of everything that makes WildStar so fun. The Megaservers and their increased player capacity will give fans more options to group up and enjoy WildStar with friends and other players for a long time to come."

There is no timetable set for when we can expect to see the megaserver roll-out, apart from it being "some ways away." There is an FAQ that covers many general questions that players may have regarding the move towards megaservers. In the meantime, current players can now transfer realms completely free-of-charge.

Furthermore, Cougar addressed the notion that Wildstar's megaserver move is a response to low player counts by stating "The increased server capacity to cope with the launch rush is no longer required. Megaservers allow us to increase player capacity per server so you will always have plenty of people to play with."

I played on Orias, at launch it was a decent populated server. The closer I got to 50, the less people there was. It then got to the point the doing the daily group quests became very hard to do.

Carbine's marketing seemed to do great for the Exile side of the game (there were many on Orias), but not so much for the Dominion side, the side I played on.

I'm glad there will now be more people to play with, but I am also mad that I just paid for a transfer (not been 3 weeks yet). So I'm bummed about that.

Also I feel sad for the RP community, as they will be mashed (as of the info yesterday on the OF forums) in with the rest.

Interesting catch. I wonder what will become of the RP community. Is there a large RP community in Wildstar?

There was at least one decent populated RP realm. Crys went out when the megaserver was announced, and that they would also be put into the same "realm."
There was some dev talk about certain RP chat channels being added.

Other suggestions were:
-Phasing. Allowing RPers to have the option to join another instance of the same zone.
-RP chat channels not being so large in radius.
-An increase to the amount of people who can be on one's home plot (RP events)

Here is the TL;DR version of the massive (66+) thread on the OF. Should be 16th post by Kaelish if it does not link to it..
