Over the next 48 hours, you may experience a problem with being able to log in to EverQuest. This issue has been reported by SOE's Community Manager:

The login issues reported this morning have begun to be resolved. However, some players may be unable to connect to SOE services intermittently for up to 48 hours, including websites, forums, and games. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Also, EverQuest servers will be taken offline early tomorrow morning as Argin-Hiz gets patched to live servers:

All EverQuest Live Servers will be brought offline on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at 4:00 AM Pacific* in preparation for the Argin-Hiz patch. The servers are estimated to be unavailable for approximately four hours.

A simple fix is this..under your IpV4 DNS settings use the following addresses: 64.37.129.11 and 8.8.8.8 then run the log-in & bam.. fixed! (If this doesn't work..flush your DNS/ reset your router/ then your PC). Make sure you return your DNS to obtain addresses automatically option in 3-4 days time. Happy Hunting!

When I try to add the 8.8.8.8. I get a warning that it is improper. So is that a correct number. I tried it in all the DNS spaces.

WELL, all that did was cause my internet to stop working completely. Had to run a troubleshooter which reset everything back to normal.

I totally agree..Why patch more into game, when there are too many issues?
Sony nds to repair the current game and issues before adding anymore to current expansions and for sure no more expansions until the game is running properly. I enjoy EQ, but as of late, seems to be as much downtime and problems as is actual gametime.
Hacked?

It seems that someone or something has taken over the "Official EverQuest Site" plus the Sony links seem to be compromised. Doesn't look very good if they have been hacked!

Actually, the same reason why your can't connect to the game servers is what effecting your connection to the EQ forums/website. It is there, but your browser can't find it properly. I have the EQ forums and other portions of their website up at the moment after doing the DNS + Host patches listed here and on their facebook page.

In other words no, they were not hacked.

As of about 6:05am PDT, NetworkSolutions.com is reporting Sony Online Entertainment owns SonyOnline.net again. SOE websites and games should start resolving properly for all customers around the world over the next few minutes/hours.

they simply did not pay the bill to retain ownership of some domain names, and it got revoked. They have corrected this error, but it will take time to resolve the issue, and it utterly out of their hands.
This seems idiotic from the nose bleed seats

Why is Sony so determined to patch this additional release when 95% of the players on EQ can't even log in? I am not going to go thru the darn hassle of change anything..... It is SOE's responsibility to get the game up and running. The player should not have to program an ISP into their PC to play the game, for a few hours just to have it shut down for a game patch and fix that is completely silly !

Then we, (the player), have to go back in and reset all the changes we done for a few hours of playtime.... ***** that. Shut the damn game down completely and fix the problem.... that is more of a logical solution I would think.
sigh

for those still having issues...

I did the DNS trick listed on the facebook page, as well as editing the HOST file. I am able to patch, get to the server selection screen, but after selecting a server I get bounced before chatacter selection screen with a 1017 error...

EXCEPT on the FV server. It seems to be working.

Using the patcher tools, it seems the FV server is the only one with any population.

Not sure why that is working that way, but possibly the people able to get in are playing on that server, while those of us still having issues are playing on other servers.
a fix

If you're still having problems, these instructions (https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using#setup) got me reconnected.

For those who haven't checked Facebook, and STILL cannot log in, there is a fix available under the Everquest page. The first fix you can try may or may not work. Go to Start, Run, type Command Prompt. In the Window, type ipconfig/flushdns. You should get a message that the DNS Resource Cache was successfully cleared. Now try launching EQ, EQ2, or whatever your game. If this does NOT work, you can try the following which DID work for me, after multiple clearings of the DNS Cache:

Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections
right click on the connection your using -- CLICK PROPERTIES

Internet protocol V 4 (TCP/IPV4)

highlight that -- click properties

Select -- use the following DNS server adressess
Preferred DNS Server; 64.37.129.11
Alternate DNS Server 8.8.8.8

Click OK

Launch EQ
Good luck all, and thanks to those who posted it on Facebook.

If this is all dependent on DNS propigation, I would recommend the following. To help speed up the process, I would recommend adding Googles public dns server to your network adapter (8.8.8.8) followed by ipconfig /flushdns and ipconfig /registerdns from an elevated command prompt. It's not guaranteed to work instantly but it's probably your best option to recognize changes.

i did this on my computer and my brother-in-law's computer and we are now both in the game. good luck everyone- it is worth a try
