It's Alive! DayZ to Roam Alone

DayZ Rises with Standalone Edition

In a move that fans have spent months clamoring for, Dean “Rocket” Hall has confirmed that DayZ will soon throw off its mod status and become a fully realized game of its own.

The news was broken on Twitter and at the DayZ dev site and will come as great news for anyone who has been waiting for a streamlined install of the wildly popular Arma II mod.

Hall stated: “Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”

To begin the separation into its own identity, the game’s dev team has launched a new website at dayzgame.com.

With DayZ having smashed the one million unique player mark, a standalone game can only help push the survival horror title’s popularity.

Will the new version make you more likely to pick up DayZ?
