UO Focus Groups

I thought I would pass this along for anyone living in the San Fransico/San Jose area: Are you a current or former Ultima Online subscriber? Do you live in the San Francisco area? Do you want to tell the Origin team what they should do with the next Ultima Online project? Now’s your chance! Origin, through a contracted research firm, will be conducting focus groups on Feb. 4 and 5 in Sunnyvale, CA (near San Francisco and San Jose). There will be six groups, with 10 to 12 people in each. The groups, about 90 minutes each, will discuss what they like and don’t like about UO. They will also be asked to comment on new ideas. Participants will be paid $100, and they will have to sign a legally binding non-disclosure agreement. That means they won’t be allowed to discuss anything they see or hear during the group sessions under penalty of law. If you are interested in participating, call Nichols Research at 1-408-773-8200, ext. 2020, or email erecruiting@nicholsresearch.com. Mention “Project #C3032” when you contact them. It’s important that we get current AND former players, so if you’ve stopped playing UO, please contact us anyway. See you in Sunnyvale!

UO WAS fun

I have to agree the rampant PKing made the game.
I was all for 'care bare' land (the non pk mirror of each world) when it was announced, but it ultimately killed the game for me.
Every time you went out was a potential adventure, where you would have to fight or run for your litteral life. Every time you met someone, you had to way up whether you could beat them if they started, or which way you would make an exit should they be too strong. This led to a very polite atmosphere, and great comradery. Sure I got burnt a couple of times by people who I thought I knew, but I also turned the tables a few times. Nothing is more satisfying, or exhilerating than to defeat someone (or even two on the odd occasion) who tried to ambush you.

The PKing in UO simply got old. I never minded the occasional fight, but there are times you just want to be left alone. Getting PKed by 3 or 4 people while mining with a character with no defensive ability gets annoying.
Sounds like fun

$100 to tell them how much I hate UO and their rampant PKing? Boy, I wish I lived in the area.

"Rampant PKing" is what made UO more fun than EQ could ever be.

I personally hate PKing no matter the game. The only time I enjoyed doing something of this nature was in DAOC's RvR combat. I avoid the PvP servers on EQ, I even avoid dueling on the prod servers. UO was almost all about PKing when I tried it and I despised it so much I left the first week and never looked back.

<Edit: I should get off my lazy backside and update that sig some day LoL>
