Guild Wars 2 Warrior Class Revealed

The ultimate class for a player who wants to bust skulls in a variety of ways.

Guild Wars 2 unveiled the Warrior class today, and man does this guy (or gal) snap necks and write checks. He is as badass as you would expect him to be, but what surprised us is how versatile he is. Many times warrior or fighter classes in MMOs or RPGs are very straightforward. Get close to something, hit it a bunch of times and kill it. While Guild Wars 2's Warrior is capable of that bull rush technique, players will also be able to deal damage from range with bows and rifles and buff or bestow their allies with bonuses by way of war banners.

Warriors will have access to 9 different weapon types: sword, axe, hammer, mace, greatsword, longbow, rifle, warhorn and shield. Some of these are two-handed, like the greatsword, longbow and rifle, but the others can be dual-wielded in any combo you'd like, except for two shields or two warhorns. But listen, Little Boy Blue, if you want to go into battle with just two warhorns, we should probably have a talk.

The Warrior's main offensive move are his burst techniques, which use built up adrenaline gained from successive offensive strikes. Burst attacks hit hard and become more devastating depending on how much adrenaline you've stored up when you release one. Every weapon has it's own burst attack, like the longbow's fire area attack, which explodes like a freaking guided missile. Do yourself a favor and check it out at 0:58 of the video below.

Another cool Warrior skill is the different Warrior Stances, which are skills that can be toggled on and off. If you checked out the video you must have seen the woman Warrior use Shield Stance against those huge lizards, which turns the Warrior into a mini tank, reducing the damage she takes. And surprise, surpise, the warrior also has some spells in the form of his banners. Banners give positive bonuses to your entire team, like the Banner of Courage, which increases the melee damage of your team. Banners can be picked up and carried and planted in a new area, so the Warrior can continue fighting. Wherever the banner is, that's where the bonus goes.

The Warrior also has access to chains, or chain attack combos, which contain 3 skills in one skill slot. So if you have the increasingly damaging melee attacks of Sever Artery, Gash and Final Thrust, they're all contained in one skill slot instead of three. It makes things easier on you as a player, not requiring you to click three separate boxes in the heat of battle. All in all, the Warrior looks like a beast and Guild Wars 2 is looking great.
