40 Candidates in Running for 3rd CSM Election

The application period for for the Council of Stellar Management election has concluded, and CCP has released the results of the application process. According to a dev blog entry, 56 applications were received and 16 were rejected due to reasons such as passport issues and EULA violations. Three females and 37 males are running, and the candidates are all between the ages of 21 and 53.

For those who don't know, the CSM is a group of gamers that brings suggestions for game improvements to CCP. You can check out this article to see how the last two CSMs fared with having their suggestions implemented.

The election process will begin on May 5 and polls will be open until May 19. The list of applicants can be viewed here.

I am of the opinion that the idea behind the CSM is a very good one, in theory. The linked "summary" of proposals the last two councils brought forth reads:

Quote:
Out of the 128 topics discussed, 50 have been added to and/or given increased priority in the backlog, 47 have been bumped into the pipeline from the backlog and/or given increased priority there, 20 topics are considered to have been implemented (some will appear in Apocrypha) and 9 have been denied implementation (mostly because of technical reasons).

which is about as vague as it gets. Regardless, I believe CCP is the leading example of how a gaming company should listen to its players. Between their forming of the CSM and their constant, relentless "need for speed" upgrades to their server, they are among the best (if not the best) in supporting their MMO so it can continue to be a great game.

The only issue I have with the election is minor. Unless they've changed it, each active account gets a vote. A large portion of EVE players have more than one account, though I don't have the numbers. Therefore it is questionable whether elected members truly represent the majority, since not everyone gets the same amount of votes. I'm sure it would be a technical nightmare to address this issue, however.
