RvR Performance Updates

As I've seen in our own forums, there has been plenty of discussion regarding the performance of Tier 4 content. Fortunately, the developers want you to know they are listening to your concerns:

The WAR community has expressed concern with overall performance and server stability in Tier 4, particularly during large-scale fortress sieges. We want you to know that we’re listening and dedicated to resolving this issue as quickly as possible. Our Production team has been working hard to resolve this with both server-side fixes to resolve any crashing issues, as well as client-side fixes to improve frame rate and other graphic-related issues that can occur during large battles.

RvR is a core element to Warhammer Online, and we are committed to making it an enjoyable and exciting experience for all of our players. Our ultimate goal is to have our players focused on fighting their opponents and experiencing the thrill of RvR the way it should be. Thank you for your continued support and patience while we work to resolve these issues. We’ll keep you updated on our progress.

rvr issues

There are a number of issues with tier 4 fortresses which are not mentioned here.

- The client has an annoying habit of randomly exiting without a moment's notice, leaving you staring at your desktop. Getting back in takes a couple minutes by itself, but if you happened to be sieging a fortress you spawn in the warcamp across the zone before the fortress zone. This tacks on another few minutes to get back into the fight, due to no fault on your part.

- From what I've seen, the problem isn't with the servers crashing, it is with the server being bogged down by 200+ people in one zone. Did they stress test this stuff in beta? They knew the focus was going to be on rvr and, for the most part, tier 4 is not laggy even with a couple warbands on both sides in one area. However, with the kind of force you have to bring to bear to lock zones quickly and hit a fortress (or beyond), they should have been well-prepared for those kinds of loads.

- While frame-rate issues impact a player's experience, I hope they consider tweaks in that area to be low-priority. Graphics settings are there to be turned down when necessary. It may hurt one's ego if they have to turn down the settings on their quad-core when there are 100+ people on the screen, but they'll get over it. On rare occasions, the client does get bogged down doing "something" throwing the fps in the single digits (even if you're in the middle of nowhere) but I doubt that's the main complaint they're addressing here.

I made these comments not to bash the game, rather because I believe in it as potentially being the best pvp mmo and only want to see it get better (and it will).
