Applicable Taxes Now Activated After Delay

Applicable taxes are now being applied to Dark Age of Camelot subscriptions and transactions. This change was supposed to take affect last week, but was disabled due to unforseen circumstances. Now that the new system is up and running, any applicable taxes that your state/province requires will be added to the transaction the next time you renew your subscription.

The Dark Age of Camelot team has supplied a list of frequently asked questions. They can be viewed at The Camelot Herald or in full below.

Why am I being charged sales tax on my subscription?

Electronic Arts charges online sales tax for Dark Age of Camelot subscriptions. The reason for this is many U.S. states are implementing taxes on online subscriptions. The tax calculation will be handled using a system provided to us by Vertex.

How much sales tax will I be charged?

The rate will depend on where you reside. Please check with your local laws/tax official for more information.

I live in Canada does this apply to my subscription as well?

The tax is only for customers with a U.S. or Canada billing address and will not affect APO customers. Tax will be calculated by zip/postal code.

I live in Europe but my husband who lives in the United States pays for the account, which tax will we pay?

The taxes will be calculated by the billing address associated with the credit card of the game account.

Will I be charged for my previous subscription renewals?

No, this is not a retroactive charge. This system is only to be used for renewal/new account charges beginning on October 2, 2008.

My question isn’t listed on this FAQ, where can I ask about my concern?
