Everquest and Dark Age of Camelot take Second, Third place in RPGdot Poll
The crew over at RPGDot recently posting the results of their survey to find the best MMORPG of 2002. Though not technically new games themselves, the Everquest expansion Planes of Power, and the newest edition to Dark Age of Camelot, Shrouded Isles, took second and third place respectively.
The winner of the poll was the highly anticipated Asheron's Call 2: The Fallen Kings by Microsoft, a game which Ekim at RPGDot called "a wonderful experience”.
AC2 claimed 11.5% of the total vote. However, even after three prior expansions, and based on an infrastructure nearly four years old, the newest Everquest expansion was only barely edged out, claiming 10.6%, less then a one percent difference.
Shrouded Isles also did extremely well, garnering 9.3%, a full three percentage points higher then its next highest competitor, Earth and Beyond.
This is an especial tribute to the work of the designers and developers and designers of Everquest for designing a piece of software, that, despite being an expansion to an existing game, based on outdated technology, and geared more towards a minority of higher end players, still manages a virtual tie for best MMORPG of 2002.
Also to the crew at Dark Age of Camelot (warning, background may cause damage to retina) who put out their flagship MMORPG a year ago, into a market already dominated by SOE, only to secure their position in the MMORPG world, and release the critically acclaimed Shrouded Isles, the first DAOC expansion.
