Almighty Apkallu Answers!

Hello everyone!
How are you enjoying the Wings of the Goddess? We hope you are having a wonderful time experiencing all the expansion has to offer--from the two new jobs to the war-scarred areas of the past.

At the FINAL FANTASY XI Fan Festival 2007, held earlier this month, we received numerous questions from players and premier sites alike, regarding the mysterious Almighty Apkallu. Unfortunately, none of the development team members who attended the festival were able to provide an adequate answer, so we promised you that we would investigate the issue and update everyone on the topic as soon as possible.

Here is what we found out...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q1: Does the NM, Almighty Apkallu, exist? And if so, where can he be found?

A1: Yes, the Almighty Apkallu exists! This puissant penguin can be found only on the Silver Sea ferry route from Nashmau to Al Zahbi. We believe the reason that none have never encountered him before is that while many adventurers ride the ferry to Nashmau, most either warp back to their Home Points on the mainland, or return to Al Zahbi via the Alzadaal Undersea Ruins. (Actually, we're just glad that to find out ourselves that the NM wasn't some sort of debug monster that we had forgotten to take out!)

Q2: Under what conditions does the Almighty Apkallu appear?

A2: While we don't want to ruin everyone's fun by telling you exactly when and how he appears, because so many at the festival showed interest in the NM, we've decided to reveal a few cryptic hints that may or may not make the hunt a little easier.

    * First of all, luck plays a big role in whether he appears or not.
    * He doesn't like being left alone, and will wander off if no one is around to keep him company.

Q3: How does one go about obtaining the Birdman Cape? Does an NM drop it?

A3: That is a very good question. Another good question would be, why is this number three in a series of questions about the Almighty Apkallu?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Finally, an attendee of the Fan Festival asked us why beastmaster pets do not lose TP while they were resting, when wyverns and automatons do. Our planners were convinced that they had already addressed this issue in a previous version update, but promised they would check it out the minute they arrived back in Japan, just to make sure.

And what did we find? That you were right and we were wrong--wyvern and automaton TP was being lost! So, we flipped on our computers, fixed the problem immediately, and are happy to say that everything should be back to normal after today's version update. We would also like to apologize again to all puppetmasters and dragoons for the misunderstanding.

Travelled the sea rute first time today and the a normal one of those depop after some time... what about he will depop if nobody calim them past a certain amount of time ? just goes away when he fells lonly...

iam pretty sure that i didnt the a normal one on the youtube vid.
( not the fake ones)

what about a shared timer with another boat NM ? a long and big window like argus/LK ? moon phase, spawns while full pt/ally is on boat, you have to throw away a kraken cloub to spawn it...

SE moves in mysterious ways.
lonely??????????

Applying " " around a comment implies that it is a quote. This is what was said...

For the 5,000,000th time, people please stop misquoting this hint. It's bad enough everyone else does it, and now you do it on the exact same page that it's posted.

Well this sounds so far a lot like Stubborn Dredvodd that pops in Phanauet Channel. People had all sorts of crazy theories as to what makes it pop, sitting, standing, aggroing it, fighting other mobs, having multiple people on the ship but as it turned out it was just a standard 21-24 hr NM. However once it pops it pops and if nobody is on the ship, then it's gone. It doesn't repop on the next ride. So tales of "I camped this thing for hours on end" doesn't really apply unless 'hours on end' means 24 hours straight. Give it some time, it will turn up one way or the other. I'll hold off on too much speculation at the moment but let me play devil's advocate and give another interpretation of the SE hints.

* First of all, luck plays a big role in whether he appears or not.
-This could also imply a lottery spawn

* He doesn't like being left alone, and will wander off if no one is around to keep him company.
-This could imply that as I said earlier, he will depop when the ship lands

As to the first clue though, i'm gonna be picky. They chose to say 'appears' not pop or spawn. This would probably mean that he swims on to the ship like the other Apkallu and like Stobborn Dredvodd jumps onto the Manaclipper. I doubt it's a lottery spawn personally. However I stand by my interpretation of the second clue and that they simply mean it will depop after the boat ride and then you have to wait the next window. What that is remains to be seen I guess but take a look at pop timers that are in place now. Basically: 1-4, 8-16, 21-24, 3day, and the horrible 'dont touch the PH' timers. If I had to guess, it is either 21-24 or possibly even 3day since the cape is so amazing.

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 28 2007 at 10:04 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) How bout you need to kill the other birds that pop on the boat DUH Hence the term forced pop E.G. kill goblins to make a goblin NM pop. They are based on a luck system, the more you kill the better the chances are that he will pop.

"First of all, luck plays a big role in whether he appears or not"

Maybe this is a play-on-words?? Maybe its referring to specific "weather" conditions??

just maybe... going really off the wall here. "* First of all, luck plays a big role in whether he appears or not." A COR must be present on the ship for him to appear? Who knows for sure?
Maybe

That's what I was thinking too, lol, but ho knows. Won't hurt to test it. Maybe I'll collect a few theories here and test them as I go. If I have time to test them, I will post results in forums.

I've ridin this ferry for almost 3 days straight over a long weekend and nothing, absolutely nothing. Even with times when the ferry had people it, there was nothing... Unless they changed something to go with their answers I think it's just another run around.
