RMT Countermeasures

Recently, a number of accounts which were confirmed to have violated the the user agreement by using unauthorized third-party software tools were discovered and have been permanently suspended. Since the middle of May, 2006, the development team and the GMs carried out a detailed investigation of this problem, and discovered the existence of a group using illicit methods to produce large amounts of gil that are later sold in the real world (Real Money Trading). We would like to take this opportunity to outline the measures that have been taken to correct this issue. Based on the results of this investigation, more than 250 accounts among those found to be involved in large-scale RMT operations have been terminated. We will continue to monitor accounts suspected of dealing in gil created or obtained in an unfair manner. Thanks to these measures, more than 250 billion gil has been removed from circulation. As has been previously stated, acts of RMT will not be tolerated in FINAL FANTASY XI, and any violations of the user agreement will be dealt with severely. We would like to assure our players that all efforts are being made to ensure a fair playing experience. We hope to have your continuing understanding and cooperation in creating a Vana'diel that everyone can enjoy.

Why do they bother

Why do they even bother to post they have Banned RMT's. They just wait a couple of weeks and give their accounts back anyway. Sometimes they take their gil, but that just makes them camp harder and longer. If they really wanted to do damage, when they knuckle under and give their accounts back(the RMT's call and demand it), they should strip them of all levels, and gear and crafting skill before they give it back.

I have no real answers on this one except to say, if you only go after/ban certain gil sellers, you are giving permission for the rest of them to exist.

untill they can stop the actual sale of gil on any site gil sellers will never go away. and gil buyers will always buy it. lets face it, its far easier to buy 10 mil to get that piece fo gear you want instead of camping for hours, or just being lucky enough to wait for the drups in ur LS so that you can finaly get whatever you need. to some people paying X amount for fake in game money is absolutely no problem. Legal service or not, paying for gil to make game play easier, is no different than paying to play the game itself. it just so happens paying for gil violates game rules. youre paying something for nothing, in both to play the game, and to have the currency to enjoy it further.

SE's in bed with the gilsellers!!!
# Jun 14 2006 at 2:10 AM Rating: Default
$4,194,950 is wat 250billion gil would come out to from IGN @.@

no wonder all the gilseller websites still up how much u wanna bet they payin a cut of that from each site to SE. SE could make more off kickbacks from the gilsellers then they making off the subscription fee's

think about it lets say theres idk 3 sites per server makin that much and SE gets 10% of there profit thats $419,495 per site so $1,258,485 per server and 32 servers so $40,271,520 per year off the gilsellers now aint that just insane @.@

and these counter measer ****'s they do now prolly happens whenever the gilsellers fall behind in there payments to SE teaching them a leason LOL

.....and cuase prices get so bad somtimes ppl will start quiting if they dont at least keep some controll of the economey.

ya iam a conspiracy nut i know hehe^^;; but idk that much money wouldent u get inbed with the gilsellers?

I don't understand why SE doesn't just create a fake RMT website with reasonably low prices to buy gil, get the people who are buying the gil and have their accts deleted, since they're the ones who keep the sellers in business. ><

Entrapment.

Look it up.
RE: Psuedo RMT

yes, but it works :)

entrapment, nothing wrong with it, and it only counts if the partys breaking the law, their country has that or a similar law.

The only way SE could get away with it was if the gilbuyers didn't have to regester on the fake site. I figure that most (not really sure) sites would have some sort of regestration and non-diclosure agreement. I know that I would never buy anything from a site that didn't, otherwise the site could just give out you personal information. Thats including, but not limited to, you financial information. So in reality... it would only catch the extremly dumb gilbuyers. But catching some is better than catching none. Would the risk outweigh the reward though?
Third party software
# Jun 14 2006 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
Hi I have only one concern, i am sick and tired of automatic updates from virus scanners or other tools of windows xp which destroy ffxi, full screen mode, which really annoys fellow party members, and can in game be quite disastrous to your fellow players. I have heard of third party software which allows ffxi to run in a windowed mode, which would address this problem and also allow one access to programs like msn for talking to friends etc at the same time. Does this violate the user agreement? This seemed in line with this thread, so i thought id ask?
RE: Third party software
# Jun 14 2006 at 10:14 AM Rating: Decent
if you have 2 monitors then this is no problem seeing as the game runs on one monitor while you can access everyting else on the other one. Also, I have never been kicked due to updates or anything like that and I don't use a third party device
RE: Third party software
# Jun 14 2006 at 2:44 PM Rating: Default
That would be nice if everyone could afford an extra monitor and a graphics card that supports 2.

band-aid solution
# Jun 13 2006 at 11:04 PM Rating: Decent
All the gilsellers are still here. In time they will get all that gil back and SE will still do the same band-aid solutions.

They should do something like limit 1 game server per ip address. I'd wager that these gilseller sweatshops have 40-50 computer/ps2s that the gilsellers move between when they 'get a claim'.

Makes you wonder if they just announce this stuff for 'publicity'.

that would definately be a problem for me... we both play off the same ISP, with each our own FFXI account (I'm on a PS2, while my better half is on PC), and obviously on the same server. I know at least 4 other couples just in my linkshell who are also playing independant accounts who rather LIKE playing together and on the same server. The whole point was being able to play together. So let's say that wouldn't be the smartest move. If S-E implemented that policy, I'd quit playing the game the very same day.

the only sure-fire way for S-E to fix the gil-selling problem, is to actually SELL the damned stuff legally through S-E!

I sure as hell wouldn't buy it, I already pay for the game, but hey, if people want to pay for fake money, why not at least have the money go to the creators of FFXI?

It's a great temptation to buy gil. But on the other hand, I miss the good old days when fire crystals and wind crystals can sell for $6k each. I miss the real AH price when I first started FF few yrs ago.

Kudos to SE for fighting the good fight, but this notification makes me wonder...

"using illicit methods to produce... gil" Is this another fish-bot type adventure, or is this changing the game itself- editing the program or the like- to print new gil? Either way there will be an impact on the economy, but I'm wondering if it will be an impact or if these measures will simply prevent inflationary spending in the future. Again, either way its a GREAT day, but we may not really feel the impact.
Yay!!

Well, when you delete your own account, everything that is on it, including the gil, is gone forever. So, I think that when they just deleted these guys, that the gil got deleted from the game and will never be seen again.

Just my thoughts though

250 000 (of those 1mgil)* 16 = 4 000 000 american dollars

...

um... wow...

sucks to be a gilseller and just get 4 million potential dollars scraged. Course they weren't paying taxes or income tax on those so....

All RMT's do is make it harder for us ppl that actually want the damn item to keep not to sell. If you're on Sylph watch out for Xinchunsky LS they're all RMT's. And we have alot of bots still too. Ecspecially at Behemoth and LoO.

RMT Crackdown!!!
# Jun 13 2006 at 2:33 PM Rating: Decent
Last time they removed that much gil it helped to drop the AH prices quite a bit. Here's to hoping the same happens again!!! /cheer
Lower Prices?
# Jun 13 2006 at 2:11 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know if removing 250 billion gil from circulation will get ah prices to drop because it was ment to sell! not that i care about RMT it takes out most of the struggle for the ultimate caracter! (wich i enjoy as it is a part of the game)
OH HELL YEAH
# Jun 13 2006 at 1:41 PM Rating: Decent
Nothing is better than more and more RMT getting the boot, that is what I say. And also, the fact that 250 billion gil was deleted from FFXI is freaking awesome. Hopefully this will help the prices drop some more.

I say that more and more RMT should get the boot. HELL YEAH.

Okay, this is kinda an oblique mention of the fact that Allakhazam actually advertises Gil Seller sites in their pop-ups. Or has everyone forgotten "Play at the next level. Gil delivered 24 hours a day"? One way to limit (I don't think that you could ever ELIMINATE gil selling) would be NOT to advertise their sites by blocking their pop-ups here.

Heh, was thinking the same thing. There's this too: http://goblinsmithy.blogspot.com/2006/06/brave-new-world.html

I always find the game much more enjoyable when these people get banned, as I can actually afford things, and there is a greater sense of community
