MYTHOS Europe to be discontinued on October 27th

It's always sad news to hear of MMORPGs going under, although this time around it's not as bad as an entire game being discontinued. In the wake of a lack of "desired long-term success," it seems like the decision was made for MYTHOS Europe to be discontinued, with the game servers being shut down on October 27th, 2011 at 12:00 CEST (11AM UK), and the forums being shut down on October 28th, 2011 at 12:00 CEST (11AM UK).

The MYTHOS team also wants to make sure that their European players have a good send-off, so they've drawn out a timeline of events and plans for the next few days. Here are those plans:

  • We want to make the last few days of Mythos as pleasurable as possible so try to send out all missing quest items by in-game messages! Just let us know what you’re missing here, by giving us the quest item name here. We’ll then check if it’s feasible to send these items, if it is, we’ll set up a separate thread for all the requests.
  • Effective immediately, it is no longer possible to buy Bones!
  • Effective immediately, all servers have the maximum XP and Luck buffs!
  • Over the next few days our community managers will be coming to the servers for the last time to help you fight the last monster invasion and supply you with powerful items! There’ll be monsters-a-plenty and set-items, cash shop items and skill gems galore!
The team is also giving out Runes of Magic vouchers to all users who have been active in the past 3 months, with those vouchers being redeemable for mounts, Diamonds, or both! Altogether, a rather sad occasion, but at least made a little classier by the folks at MYTHOS Europe. Good luck in the future!

New PvP Arena System Added to Mythos

If you need a break from dungeon crawling in Mythos, you might want to check out the new Lamento PvP feature that has been added to the game. Once you hit level 50, you can form a team and participate in 1v1 and 2v2 arena battles. Potions may not be used, although bandages and grenades are permitted. To make things a bit more difficult, monsters are also wandering the battlefield.

Winners will be rewarded with “Lamento Points" that can be used to purchase new but unidentified weapons, armor and pets from the Lamento Equipment Merchant.

Daily Quests Are Coming to Mythos in June

In order to address the XP gap that players are encountering in the mid-level range, Frogster will be adding daily quests to Mythos in June. The quests become available at level 15 and last until level 50. There will be three quests available per character level, and they will involve collecting monster drops, killing a boss and searching for items.

As an added incentive to complete daily quests, characters who finish all three daily quests within the same reset window will receive a temporary buff that increases the XP gained from killing monsters by 100% for 60 minutes. That should certainly help close the XP gap.

Frogster Hosts Mythos XP Event, Shares Statistics

A double XP event kicks off in Mythos Europe today and runs through May 16. Frogster is hosting the event to help aid players in the leveling process from 20 to 30. "It is very important for us that every one of you know we are currently working hard to find the best way to ease the leveling experience in this bracket, both short and long term," the company said.

Mythos Europe officially launched two weeks ago, and Frogster has marked the occasion by releasing some interesting statistics:

  • Mythos has garnered more than 250,000 players.
  • 32% of players are Pyromancers, 28% are Gadgeteers and 40% are Bloodletters.
  • 27% of players have chosen the Satyr, 28% the Gremlin, 15% the Cyclops and 30% are human.
  • 2/3 of players chose male characters.

Mythos Europe is Officially Live

Today marks the official launch of Mythos Europe! All players are now welcome to create a free account and try out this Diablo-esque MMO. Frogster warns that "it can take up to 15 minutes for the back end of the system to process your registration," so be patient and you'll be hacking 'n' slashing your way through groups of enemies in no time.

While the game is free-to-play, you can purchase a retail box version for £9.99 that includes perks like an item package and an exclusive pet. You can also watch the cinematic launch trailer to get you in the Mythos mood.

ZAM Fights Through Mythos' Closed Beta

Back in 2008, Mythos was put on hiatus indefinitely after Flagship Studios shut its doors and the team went on to develop Torchlight. Well, indefinitely has come and gone; the European version of Mythos is currently in closed beta testing under Frogster and HanbitSoft, and will enter open beta on April 12 before officially launching on April 28.

In case you haven't heard of Mythos before, picture a Diablo-esque random dungeon game set in an MMO universe. Players can travel into instanced dungeons to explore, complete quest objectives, down bosses and gather loot, then travel back to common areas holding NPCs and players to craft, sell off treasure or pick up quests. I had a chance to dive into the closed beta, so read on for my impressions!

Mythos Launch Date, Retail Box Announced

Are you ready to paint the town red? Frogster just announced that Mythos Europe will officially launch on April 28. While the hack 'n' slash MMO will be free-to-play, players will also be able to purchase a retail box version for £9.99 that grants them a two-day head start on April 26. The box will also include other goodies, such as an item package and an exclusive pet.

Mythos Europe is currently in closed beta. New closed beta content will launch on March 29, followed by the start of open beta on April 12.

Mythos Open Beta Kicks Off in April

If you're a fan of the hack'n'slash action RPG formula, you may want to mark April 12 on your calendar. That's the day Mythos Europe enters open beta, which means all players will be able to dive into the game. The open beta will raise the level cap from 27 to 50 so players can gain access to the Umbral Peaks zone.

If you don't want to wait that long to play Mythos, you can still register to participate in the closed beta. The game's language offerings were just expanded to include French, German, Turkish, Polish and English. Also, players can now take part in PvP duels in the towns of Uld.
