Bloodletter Class Revealed in Mythos

Frogster just unveiled the third and final class in Mythos: the Bloodletter! This melee fighter joins the Gagdeteer and Pyromancer in this hack and slash MMO, and he sure knows how to deal damage to his opponents. The "Crimsonate" skill tree gives the Bloodletter a powerful shockwave ability, the "Martialist" skill tree focuses on his weapons, and the "Red Hand" skill tree lets him summon blood minions.

You can view images of the Bloodletter in action in our screenshots gallery. Now that all of the classes have been revealed, which is your favorite? Also, the closed beta is scheduled to begin soon in preparation for the game's launch in early 2011. You can register for the beta now.

Frogster unveils new Gadgeteer class for Mythos

Personally speaking, I think more games should incorporate rifle-based classes -- it's a winning combination, if you think about it. First, you give someone a big honkin' gun, and then you let them blow stuff up! Instant success! Bonus points if you can somehow make it steampunk-ish!

Anyways, big honkin' rifles and lots of pretty explosions seems to be the norm for the Gadgeteer, which the latest class reveal for Frogster's hack'n'slash MMORPG, Mythos. Players who are fans of this long-ranged damage unit will be able to choose from three specializations. First, there is the Marksman, a powerful straight shooter that blows his or her opponents away with magically enchanted bullets. For those who prefer to play with a little more finesse (or less finesse, depending on how you see it) there is the Grenadier, master of traps, explosions and... well... more explosions. Or, finally, there is the Tinker specialization, which allows the Gadgeteer to create fantastical flying drones, gun turrets and other mechanical aid that supports and fights on behalf of the Gadgeteer. So for those of you who plan on checking out this colorful MMORPG and who plan on rolling as a Gadgeteer, what do you plan to specialize in?

New Mythos Teaser Site Unveiled

It looks like Mythos has officially been reborn. Redbana announced today that it will be publishing the game in North America and unveiled the new Mythos teaser site, which contains a trailer that looks at the evolution of the online action RPG. You can also register for the upcoming closed beta and read the first developer's blog entry, which can be found after the jump.

Flagship Studios closed the Mythos beta in 2008 and the team reformed as Runic Games to develop Torchlight, which launched in October. HanbitSoft ultimately acquired the Mythos intellectual property and parent company T3 Entertainment resumed development, with the game now in closed beta in South Korea.

Following the news that Blizzard won't be releasing Diablo III until at least 2011, it looks like players will be occupied with Torchlight and Mythos for the foreseeable future.

Former Flagship Team Heads to New Studio

From the Runic Games website:

Seattle, Washington - August 8th, 2008 - The former Flagship Studios Seattle team is proud to announce their reformation as Runic Games (www.runicgames.com). As the team responsible for the highly-anticipated Mythos at Flagship Studios, Runic Games intends to continue to use their expertise in the Action-RPG MMO genre to create the best games in this market.

The studio is headed by Travis Baldree and Max Schaefer. Travis served as Project Director for Mythos at Flagship Seattle, and previously created the bestselling Action-RPG FATE. Max was the Executive Producer for Mythos, and one of the original founders of Blizzard North, the creators of the bestselling Diablo franchise. He was also one of the founding members of Flagship Studios.

Announcements about Runic Games' forthcoming projects will be made in the coming days.

Good to see that some of the team survived.  I wish them the best of luck!!

Mythos Beta Goes on Hiatus

In a move that isn't fooling anyone, the Flagship team has announced that the beta for their game, Mythos, is going to take a break.

Travelers of Uld,

We, the ancient elders of Uld are issuing this warning to all citizens and travelers. Hurry! The great darkness that once plagued Uld is returning. Everyone is ordered to close down their shops and prepare. We predict the when night is at its peak the darkness will arrive. The ancient elders of Uld will be leaving immediately in order to preserve the lore of this wonderful world. Citizens please prepare thyself and know that the elders will be back from their travels some day.

From the team:

We regretfully announce that on Friday, July 18, 2008 at 11:59 PST the world of Uld known as Mythos will be going on hiatus. On behalf of all of the Devs and Community team we want to say thank you to everyone for their support and assistance with Mythos Alpha and Beta testing and we will see you soon. The Mythos Team

This is nothing short of a sad story, and an incredibly hard time for those team members who were let go. The forums have been shut down , and we're all going to miss out on a fun MMO that went wrong long ago.

Mythos: From a Player's Perspective

Mythos - A veteran MMO player's view

Drawing on many diverse aspects of the different games on the market, Mythos provides a fun alternative to the standard "level grind" commonly found in most MMOs out there. It's fun, absorbing and has a fairly easy learning curve where game mechanics are concerned. The game uses the "personal instance" method from Guild Wars, where a player has a map to a specific area that is theirs alone and there are travel "hubs" that are social areas. In these hubs, players can set up groups and interact with NPCs, gain quests and use a bank system.

Leaving the hubs will take the player to instanced areas. These areas have a small "zone" that leads to the specific dungeon and each dungeon is detailed on the character map so there is no "wandering around lost", which happens so frequently in other games. Arriving at the dungeon "zone", you will find a merchant and a guide next to the zone in location so you can sell off any loot you may have and purchase mana and health potions, recall charms (used in the dungeon, they are a temporary "gate" so you can leave, sell and return to the same place in the dungeon) and some magic items.

Mythos - So, Here's What We're Doing

Some changes are coming to Mythos, and here's the post that explains it all!
Mythos is now undergoing a big change – one prompted by your feedback and our observations. We will be relaunching with a contiguous overworld for each zone, starting with Greenreach.

What does this mean to you?

As you’re aware, the ‘outdoors’ in Mythos as it currently stands are randomized, and relatively isolated. As such, there’s not as much of a sense of place as we’d like to see, and a lot of the socialization that is important to MMOs takes place only in towns. In an effort to bring our players together more, and to instill a greater sense of place and exploration, you’ll now be able to run through an overworld that is not randomized, but has real locations and places to explore.

Does this mean that we’re doing away with randomization? Definitely not! All of the dungeons in the game remain randomly generated. Does this mean we want you to spend an inordinate amount of time traveling? Again, definitely not! We’re making every effort to keep the pace of gameplay fast, and immediate, while still providing this critical social component.

Mythos: An Introduction

Every once in awhile, you come across a game that gives you that sense of dèjá vu... you know the one, where you stop and think to yourself that you've seen this before? That's exactly what happened to me as I entered Mythos.

Let's start at the beginning. When I first loaded up the game, the one thing I noticed was that the system seems to have some lag issues. My cursor was herky-jerky as I was attempting to go through the options. But that's not unusual when a game is undergoing its beta testing... until a full stress test can be done and everything can be fine-tuned. So I wasn't too concerned about that. After inputting my information, I was taken to a loading screen with some fun images to look at that had some game play tips across the top. I wish I could tell you what they said, but the screens went too fast - before I could finish reading one, the next was presented.

Mythos Site Re-Design!

Mythos Online is looking dapper with the new site re-design and the team is a flurry of activity as they get closer to launch!  The third chapter of the closed beta took place, and now we can (well, those in beta can) check out Umbral Peaks!
Mythos' third chapter introduces the Umbral Peaks and the towns of Mistglade and Arcled and includes quest content that will allow players to progress to level 30. New features include the introduction of a new Cyclopean character race, a crafting system, in-game mail, socketable armor, trinkets, and stat bonuses for skill tier investment. For the first time, players can participate in PvP dueling thanks to a dedicated PvP world, the Shadowlands.

"We are excited to announce the next stage of the Mythos closed beta with new content and a redesigned official site," said Max Schaefer, Development Director of Mythos and founding member of Flagship Studios. "With new environments to explore and quests to complete, the third chapter will keep our dedicated Mythos community busy for quite some time."

Check out the new site!

Mythos' Umbral Peaks Patching Right Now!

Mythos Online is patching to update 3 as I type this!
You may have noticed that Mythos is down right now. We are in the process of both testing the new build and building out our network infrastructure. So, the earliest that we could possibly be up and running is about 1:00pm, but in all likelihood it will be later in the afternoon. It is possible that newly discovered bugs will push the build to tomorrow.

Speaking of which, THERE WILL BE BUGS! With Crafting, two PvP modes, a whole new zone, and tons more new stuff, there are bound to be some bugs, so please report them in the forums so we can fix them as soon as possible. Next stop, Open Beta!
You can find the entire patch note list and keep your fingers crossed for Open Beta!  This game is so much fun!
