Read some of the post. I keep seeing alot of "exp area X is gonna be overcrowded"; "some items are gonna skyrocket, others will drop hard"; "to many players in one server"

Not everyone is gonna migrate and if many do, it may not all be at one time. I have considered it honestly. Use this to my advantage and find a cheaper server and take a 90 day vacation and then come back home. Will see how the markets acts to this first.
Happy!

I am loving this ^^

My boyfriend can finally be with me in the game, we've waited 2 years to be on the same server together, both of us were already level 75s on different servers when we met and had no idea the other played the game until he saw my book on the floor. Neither of us wanted to start over because we both had worked so hard. Seemed like they were never going to have another server migration.

I am soo happy!
well...maybe some hope

Really wish they'd offer a name change service now. Since it's possible to do it this way(technically, with alot of work/being charged twice) anyway. I didn't name my character and I really wish I could just shorten it...or something. :/ Been wanting this forever.

Read the website people... You can change as many times as you want but they have to be 90 days apart.

I'm speculating that SE is doing this partly to cover their decreasing profit due to the decreasing number of subscribers. So many people have quit in the past year (mostly due to natural cycle of the game/player lifespan), and not many new subscribers are joining (mostly due to the now established "advanced" nature of the game, ie. not low-level/newbie friendly).

Until they can come up with a more advanced (system and graphics-wise) version of the game (extremely unlikely as it would kill off all the PS2 playerbase), I honestly don't think people would play this game without already knowing someone else who plays it. Most "new" players I meet these days joined because a friend/family member plays it, or because they're coming back to the game.

As for substitute/competing titles, everyone else in the Western world would go for WoW, and everyone in Asia/Japan would go for one of the NUMEROUS MMO out there (including the soon to be released "Romance of the Three Kingdoms Online").

I really hope SE is coming out with a new MMO soon, and hopefully one that plans at least 5 years into the future. Because truth be told, as great of a game FFXI is, it has already reached a "matured" stage, and the subscriber numbers (hence profits) will only go down from here unfortunately.

Edit: by "decreasing profit", I don't imply that SE is losing money in any way, just that they are making less profit than before (when MMO were still a cash cow)

Well i see your point here. But i don't think there loss came from ppl quitting. I personall belive the larger chunk of there loss is from all the rmt they keep booting. Which im glad there doing. I know the RMT population has greatly decreased on my world since all the bans started.Even though there are remade RMT there actual numbers have decreased.
Server populations?

Any website that can provide server info such as population, level range, basically stat central?
A fee!

omg I tought this was going to be free or somewhat cheaper then that :( , well looks like SE is going to get a $$ boost out of this one.

LOL...again with the silly Race Change idea. If you aren't happy, and it REALLY ruins your gameplay that much, just level another character. The race differences over the long run are just not that big of a deal. I happen to be a Galkan Whm, and even though I don't have the uber MP that a Taru does, I believe I still do a great job. I may not be the best out there, but I doubt a couple hundred more MP and half my HP would make me any better or worse. To be honest, the idea of a Race Change just sounds silly and pointless.

I have to agree w/ a lot of the pessimism I hear on here ...

Prices are going to surge in some places and drop like a rock in others... Crafters that were once able to make a decent income on some servers are going to be screwed, exp areas are liable to get overly crowded and those that don't have the best of connections aren't going to be able to stay in a legite exp pt for long...

So many cons to this...

But when you look at the idea of a race change, which I've been asking for for a while now ... It incurs no bad side effects and helps people out. It could improve the game dynamics and party dynamics across all servers...

But, sadly, it seems that the helpful suggestions are never given a second thought. Only the ones that ***** others over in one way or another get a notice.

I'm not meaning to sound angry or upset, at anyone (especially the developers) but I think a bit more weighing of consequences should be done before enacting things like this.

Take a look at the race change idea {please}. It could help a lot of people out, a lot more than this.

Ok i agree that there would be no major side effects of the race swap..
But i don't see how it will help the game dynamics and party dynamics. It will just make a few ppl happy that there not being called a cross-dressin manthra.... Only other thing is maybe someone who chose galka and now fell in love with whm... Other than that i dunno.
Good things

Sounds cool.

One thing though, if people from poor worlds came to rich worlds i bet you anything that it will lower the inflation on that server. Take for instance a SH. The SH on my server is 500k now on that poorer server its only 250k that person goes "O crap 500k im selling it!" then you are flooded with SH and BAM! there goes the price. Makes everyones gil worth more. it will happen in more way than one to Food, weapons and so on.

I think this is a good thing for everyone and it also slaps the RMT because they will in the end lose money if a mass of people move and Hey it is even possible to trap them to. Have all the RMT say o wow 2398571385971340Gil for this item lets sell it and sell the gil online. Little do they know that they cant move for 60days or something and are stuck on the RMT Server where no one will buy gil lol because no real player is there and they will be forced to literally compete aginst each other for the gil to take to another server. Ha

I bet no one has any idea what im talking about. I think i just wrote something to good for myself to even have been thinking.

Anyways i think this will be a good thing and will help out everyone in a way. NM camping will suck but Hey thats life if you want the item you got to work for it. Or go to an under populated server get the NM drops for a few months then switch back after you have the ober drops lol
Cant be a good thing

Surely people on some of the poorest and worst servers will immediately jump at this to move to the richest, in turn more people will leave as the server will become poorer at the loss of these players, then due to less players the chances of said servers winning besieged become less and more people leave. Nobody would want to come to these servers as there downward spiral would deter regular players. Consequently(sp)the richest servers will become overcrowded thus more laggy so players originally from these servers would receive less of a service an rather than move to a poorer deteriorating server would rather quit.

Hopefully im completely wrong but I cant see this being a good thing

They've stated that they'll combine underpopulated servers and divide overcrowded ones.

It's be even cooler if it let me transfer characters to different accounts. Though I imagine RMT kinda screws up that as being a possibility. Just kinda sucks that we have three accounts, yet Myself and 2 others all have our main characters on the same account.

peace,

It is a permanent thing, but once you have picked the world to take your Content ID to, you cannot change your mind.

This seems like a great oppurtunity, and im sure SE will make hundreds of thousands off it. Maybe can go to world with more organised and respectful end game.
