Chains of Promathia Battlefield Adjustments

From PlayOnline.com:

In response to many player requests, we are planning to adjust the difficulty of the Chains of Promathia missions in the upcoming version update, as well as introduce a new experience point reward upon the completion of a mission battlefield.

In response to many player requests, we are planning to adjust the difficulty of the Chains of Promathia missions in the upcoming version update, as well as introduce a new experience point reward upon the completion of a mission battlefield.

Adjustments to Difficulty

Particularly challenging Chains of Promathia battlefields, such as those that appear in the Promyvion areas (Holla, Dem, Mea, Vahzl), and the missions "Flames for the Dead" and "The Warrior's Path", will have their difficulty level toned down. These adjustments will include changes to monster level and placement.
We also hope that the following changes to items used specifically against Chains of Promathia enemies will encourage players to brave the dangers found in the mission battlefields.

-Rare/Ex Properties
The special items introduced for use against enemies found within the Chains of Promathia battlefields will have their "Ex" properties removed, allowing these items, such as psychoanima and mistmelt, to be put up for auction. Certain items will also have the "Rare" property removed, allowing players to carry multiples of the same item.

Experience Point Rewards

After changes made in the March 8 version update, players no longer lose experience when being KO'd within a Chains of Promathia mission battlefield. In the upcoming version update, players will also be rewarded with experience points (or limit points) upon the successful completion of a battlefield. The experience point reward will be slightly less than the amount received for ENM quests, but it will be possible for players to obtain this new reward once every Earth day.
These changes will provide a tangible benefit for those who have completed a Chains of Promathia battlefield and wish to aid other players with their first attempts.

It took me 2 years to complete CoP. That was mostly trying to get things done up to Ouryu, and then I was fortunate to get a good static and we went from Sacrarium to Sea in a couple of months.

It was a grind, to be certain. We had a very strong success record (1/1 on Snoll Tzar, 1/1 on O/U, 1/1 on Tenzen, etc.) and it was because we showed up prepared and ready go fight.

Do I resent SE for toning down the difficulty of these missions? NO.

Why?

Because people paid their hard-earned money for an expansion, much of the content they haven't been able to access because PUGs for CoP suck in general, and too many players started avoiding CoP like the plague because they couldn't clear the Promyvions ("omfg wut teh hell r animas and y r we farming them insted of fiting teh boss!?!?").

I do believe that the aversion people have to CoP is because for the most part, if you take Joe Average player out of an exp party and put them into something that actually requires collaboration and strategy, they fall down....hard. Nevertheless, it is just a game, and when you pay for content that you simply can't access due to the difficulty of the missions, I think 2+ years after release of that content is a perfectly appropriate time to tone down the challenge a bit.

The players who could manage the strategy (and had a bit of luck...let's be honest) had their challenge and now is a good time to open the flood gates for everyone else.
Adjusted not automatically easy...

I understand how everyone who has finished this feels about the update. I would like to interject and point out that nowhere does it say this is going to be "easy" now. Okay... it won't be as hard but they said they are adjusting the difficulty. Most of the things they "adjusted" be it spells and abillities or item drops have never been all that significant. I am sure you won't all of a sudden be able to take 6 WHM in a party and blow through to SEA. To all who have made it through with the "hard" way I commend and salute you. I am a person who plays for fun and being on the stupid Mammet fight for a year has not been very fun for me. All the elite people who have gone through often comment on how hard it was for them and then quickly say they are glad they finished and won't ever go back to CoP again. I had some members of a LS get into an argument over going back to help and it eventually caused a splitting up of the shell. I'm not going to say yay, nor am I going to gripe and wine. I will simply play on and do what is fun to me in game.

I did CoP ages ago.

I still think this is a long-overdue update.

SE isnt saying 'Hi we're about to make Sea REALLY easy for everyone to get kthx' what they are saying is they have *finally* came to understand that some of these missions are a little too hard for the more casual player. Yes I did enjoy the challenge of CoP being difficult.... but then again, the only fights I lost too on my first try with my static was the one where you already have Sea access, against the funny pot things, and also the prommys took me 2 attempts for each one. Oh Mammets was 2 attempts aswell. Everything else, including Snoll and Airship... was first try. I'm glad they're making it *some* of the fights easier (yeah, they arent making everything easier here... that escort quest is still going to be a long-*** mission). It'll mean more people will have sea, so we'll be able to start seeing more people make use of Sea. Since I got it, I"ve been up a couple of times for Organ Farming, BLU spells, and Limbus. That's it. Havent even been back in the Garden place. Seems like before the introduced Limbus having Sea was pointless (unless you have time to play a lot and can afford to be in a LS that undertakes a lot of Sea farming.)

Ugh, to all these people ******** about the update, stfu please, and go ***** somewhere else. I know, it's supposed to be hard, and all the people that did it alrdy are über players with OMGSEA and a Rajas Ring and so much more than all those noobies!

Well, you alrdy did it, now stfu and go play some more. No need to be ******** about everything and especially all the "I DID IT WHILE IT WAS HARD! OOO look at me!!!" Speeches... , just drop it.

I know many hardcore players who finished CoP quite early after it came out, and from all those players I am sure they would never post anything like what I have read here. They are almost all modest players, mostly adults, and they act their age too unlike some here....

Most of you are just trying to be considered one of the top players but still havent made it at all... meaning in your own eyes, you still fail... but you hope other players think you are the best! Why care about it being made a little easier if you alrdy did it? Shouldn't you be glad about how now other people who didnt get the chance yet maybe now will get more chance to finish it? So more friends can join battles in newer areas and more people can enjoy the game to its full extent?

Just my 2 cents...now stop the bragging and go play some more.

Wow....first stick it to the experienced players by telling the slow players "Hey, don't lose XP now!"

Now they slap on the barbwire condom and give it to ya by saying "Now we are going to reward you for being a terriable slow player!"
weak CoP

After completing CoP in about a month of straight playing COP from waking up to falling asleep at the keyboard I can't beleive they are doing this. Part of being able to walk around with my CoP ring was people knew I knew how to play. Beating Tenzen the first time and that overwhelming feeling of acomplishment was awesome and I enjoy going back and helping with CoP cause I loved it soo much.. but now.... I can sense an overwhelming sense of noobs who where powered through CoP to get to sea for their linkshells... who still can't understand the concept of different strategies with differeent sub's that are unlike xp parties simply cause they only have 1 job past level 30.. Thanks for the slap in the face SE to everyone who completed CoP before these updates. Yup /welcome to all the GS to sea... thanks for making Sea just like sky...

I support all the circumstantial changes, and would suggest more of them, even, such as having Job ability recast timers recharged upon entry to BC (including 2h), or easy transport to BC if you've already made the trip there.

The main problem for these was the inconveniance of retrying them if you don't win the first time.

They could make all the changes thay want. The one change I would not want is to the difficulty of the actual fight :\ That effectively cheapens the accomplishment of completing it.

If they made these missions very easy and conveniant to try and retry over and over, with possible benifits to everyone (and the same original difficulty), I think doing CoP missions would become a new fad, and the playerbase would have fun doing them often, like many other activities in the game.

SE is missing this opertunity. It will be just as hard and inconveniant to find people and try these missions, but the accomplishment will be cheapened.

They can do better than this :\

If they aren't adjusting the mammet BC, the airship BC, and the pot BC, then people are still going to flunk out on CoP. The promy fights and the Tenzen fight are easy compared to those.

1/1 CoP. I'm glad I finished mine when it was somewhat a challenge. I can't imagine how much lol of a mission it will be after the update. Good news for those who didn't do it though.

Get ready for the RMT invasion of Sea. I know some are there now, but they will come in droves now. Sea will be as crowded as Sky.

And good luck getting the Limbus zone you need. That will be so crowded now, you'll never get that Omega or Ultima chip you need to complete a set.

Getting Sea used to mean something. Now, it's almost nothing.

I am going to go ahead and have to agree with this. I was casually strolling through Whitegate today when I saw a shout from RMT offering Novio and Novia. If CoP gets to be any easier it is going to be non stop for them. On the plus side RMT won't be afraid to take on AV. And if they plan on beating him then they plan on cheating, and if they plan on cheating well thn I guess it's perma ban time. But back to the point at hand. This really wasn't a good idea. If people had trouble with the battles it was because their party was too weak. That doesn't mean the individual players were weak, but as a team they just don't have what it takes. Sea and rings were a reward. Now they are nothing but a plastic trophy that the little fat kid who came in last place in the relay race got because nobody wanted to see him cry. Oh well. I guess it is just still a game.

Promy Dem: 1/3
Promy Mea: 1/2
Promy Holla: 1/19
Promy Vazhl: 1/2

Airship Fight: 1/4 (Best fight ever!)
Tenzen Fight: 1/2

These really aren't that hard. Sure you may get a really bad pick up group and something terrible goes wrong, but that's why you practice and become prepared for these things.

On the other hand, this would be pretty good money to make for lazy ppl not willing to farm themselves...
Weak

I don't have much of CoP done yet and I gotta say this update is weak. All the people here that have been posting about how they don't like this idea should send SE suggestions saying not to do it. CoP is supposed to be hard, this is just stupid. -.-

Watch them nerf AV next. >.>

This update is bull****. GROW UP!!! This is SUPPOSED to be hard! We did CoP with a less then perfect group, heck we five-manned it half the time! ANYONE can do this! I completed CoP because the BS exp loss was removed and whatnot...

What can people who complete it now say?

Oooo... we beat some severely weakened bosses with no penalties to dying and with all these neat items that made them stand there like dogs with their tails between their legs!

Real big accomplishment. >.>;

Bout damn time....

***** Promyvians. Getting there isnt a problem its the damn Boss Battle.

I go all the time prepared but every party I have had came unprepared. Why is it that I can farm three Animas, bring Food, Persikos au Lait Regen Drinks, antidotes, HiPots+2, ninja tools and nobody else can? No one wants to do these promyvians after they have done them once and I dont blame them, they suck. Worse rated expansion so far. To be honest, this expansions story line so far isnt that great. I am on Zilart Mission 17 and that was a kick *** story line from the begining. This one seems to dull. I have hopes that it will pick up though if I can only get through this stupid promy mission. Between all the promyies, I am as of last nights Promyvian - Mea run, 0/15. I should get a mercy win from SE.

I thought CoP was supposed to be challenging so you could feel like you accomplished something when you got your ring. What next? You get to pick two rings upon completion. I leveled multiple jobs just so I could pick and choose the job that would be most beneficial for the ENM style fights. If SE is going to give exp, why don't they have the mobs in the capped ares give more exp.

I do understand what SE is trying to do. It is hard to get people to do CoP missions, I have been unable to get anyone to go with me. But I do not think that making it easier or giving minor perks is going to get people to stop what ever they are doing to revisit or help anyone out. Being new to the game I am looking forward to finishing and reaping the awards of CoP. This means I have to work at it and get myself into a static to complete it, that's fine. But it seems like now it's going to be a pick-up party missions now. So now I have to play it nerfed cause SE thinks new players won't do it cause it's to hard, thanks!

I'm mixed about the update. Some things are definetly good, like no exp loss and the item adjustment, but with my highest job being drg (no,I'm not complaining-I love it) sometimes people will leave you behind because they've had bad experiences w/drg's in the past, since a lot of people think their wyverns do the work. Almost all my LS (w/the exception of my b/f :) ) have completed CoP. Maybe now they can help me and I can get past this.
Just a note in passing-didn't they nerf Zilart when CoP came out, and now they're nerfing CoP since ToAU came out? Will they nerf ToAU when WoG comes out? Makes you wonder..
Nerf
# May 18 2007 at 4:38 AM Rating: Decent
Hey, I know, let's nerf Maat too. Maybe make him half-strength. That way new players can feel the same sense of accomplishment as the rest of us, but not have to actually work for it!

Seriously, now that you can select your world when you create a character, maybe you should be able to select an "original" world or a "noob" world, and only put all of these new handicap features in the "noob" worlds.
