Chains of Promathia Battlefield Adjustments

From PlayOnline.com:

In response to many player requests, we are planning to adjust the difficulty of the Chains of Promathia missions in the upcoming version update, as well as introduce a new experience point reward upon the completion of a mission battlefield.

In response to many player requests, we are planning to adjust the difficulty of the Chains of Promathia missions in the upcoming version update, as well as introduce a new experience point reward upon the completion of a mission battlefield.

Adjustments to Difficulty

Particularly challenging Chains of Promathia battlefields, such as those that appear in the Promyvion areas (Holla, Dem, Mea, Vahzl), and the missions "Flames for the Dead" and "The Warrior's Path", will have their difficulty level toned down. These adjustments will include changes to monster level and placement.
We also hope that the following changes to items used specifically against Chains of Promathia enemies will encourage players to brave the dangers found in the mission battlefields.

-Rare/Ex Properties
The special items introduced for use against enemies found within the Chains of Promathia battlefields will have their "Ex" properties removed, allowing these items, such as psychoanima and mistmelt, to be put up for auction. Certain items will also have the "Rare" property removed, allowing players to carry multiples of the same item.

Experience Point Rewards

After changes made in the March 8 version update, players no longer lose experience when being KO'd within a Chains of Promathia mission battlefield. In the upcoming version update, players will also be rewarded with experience points (or limit points) upon the successful completion of a battlefield. The experience point reward will be slightly less than the amount received for ENM quests, but it will be possible for players to obtain this new reward once every Earth day.
These changes will provide a tangible benefit for those who have completed a Chains of Promathia battlefield and wish to aid other players with their first attempts.

difficulty is different for each player

right now, the majority of FFXI's playerbase says it's too difficult and that's why SE is toning it down for "some" missions, not "all"

kudos to you if you beat it already

good news to you if you haven't

some of us have the luxury of having statics, some of us don't

some of us have "very" limited playtimes, some of us don't

some of us are "uber", some are "good", some are "ok", some are "not so good" in playing this game.

Difficulty is subjective

when SE made the decision of this update, they factored in all those examples. They just don't wake up one morning and say "hmm... I think we'll make CoP easier today"

that's all...

my 2 cents
The new FF
# May 18 2007 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
I take this as meaning 2 things:

1: The new expansion may not be as challenging as I hoped for. Was hoping for something like the old CoP, I really did have fun completing those. It gave me something to do and work for when I logged on. This game has turned into a non-stop TP burn for some, they don't even bother doing easy, casual things such as assault.

2: No one do the new expansion missions, for a while at least. SE will make them easier and give bonuses to those who wait. Why bother anyway. {Party}
{Do You Need It?} 3x WAR, 2x BRD, 1x RDM. That's all this game is anymore.

I went out and bought FFX again, missed playing it. I so far have done none of the story, I just stay in the main area and kill the same mobs over and over. That's what Final Fantasy is about right?
I think it's a good idea not to lose any xp
# May 18 2007 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
I wouldn't care if they made it any less hard, but each time someone new joins our LS and they say "I need help with Promies" ... I cringe ...

Now that you won't lose any xp in the main fight (maybe even getting there?) I won't care trying to help anyone anymore.
Get a Grip

Stfu with your retarted complaining. Its a video game your coolness in real life will not go down because you completed something that is now easier get a grip. As for this update it IS a good thing. Less Difficulty = More JoBs That Can Participate. The harder it is the more job setup specific you have to be. Use your brains...a person who decided that smn be their main job or whm having taking first job to 30 gets to do promy right away cause their job is needed. but a thf lvling cant? they are forced to start or get a job to 30 just to do a mission? its retarted i am all for this update.
uhm.
# May 18 2007 at 2:42 PM Rating: Decent
The only people that are complaining are the people that already completed it. Do you feel like your losing your coolness by having CoP completed and now having it be easier? Good thing they are toning down the difficulty. The more difficult it it is the more the missions get job specific which limits people to only lvling and using jobs that the mission requires. By toning down the difficulty people that have decided to level jobs that arent really useful in CoP will be able to participate. And ive completed promys so my opinion isnt comming from someone who is having trouble completing it.
Ehhh, too little too late.

I'll say the same thing I said on my LS's page.

The Promyvions were easy. If they want to make a battlefield easier, they should have worked on 6-4.

As far as making Rare/Ex items bazaar-able (or taking off the Ex and making rare items un-rare), it makes things marginally easier. Whatever happened to people having an order of doing things if the items are rare/ex? Like person 1 uses a Psychoanima first, then person 2 uses their Psychoanima second, and so on. That's how we got through the Promyvions. Took a while, but my entire LS got through them.

I'm just feeling kind of "eh" about this. I worked my *** off to get to 7-4 (soon to be chapter 8) and NOW they make these updates?

I have a feeling that having CoP done will affect WotG -- like you won't be able to access any of the areas in WotG unless you have CoP done to a certain point, or if you don't have the ZMs done. It would be just like S/E to do something like that, you know. I think there's more than meets the eye when it comes to this cream-puffing of CoP. I'd like to think that they're doing it for a reason (paving the way for something with WotG), but I doubt it.

all of you are a bunch of hipocrits, you ***** and moan about them making things too easy for people who haven't done something yet, say your go back to WoW crap, yet then you go and form your TP burns and merit in ToAU areas getting easy 10-20K/hr. if you are so great, go prove how good you are and solo your merits, or go try out old school areas to merit in. Better yet, go outside for a little bit and get over yourself.

I started CoP because i heard it was hard and i was looking for a real challenge. Now, SE is planning to decrease the difficulty of the best CoP fights? what are they thinking? I know some ppl don't try CoP because it's hard, but i know some ppl do CoP missions because they are looking for a real chalenge, like me.

I'm trying to defeat Snoll Tzar now, but i want to defeat the hard version, not a weak version of it.

i think exp points reward is enough to encourage ppl to do CoP missions. SE, don't touch the difficulty pls.
RMT sea?

RMT already has sea on Carby.

Every once in a while a while back you could see a RMT shout in whitegate "All {sea} rare/ex gear {Do you need it?} {/tell}"

Not quite as common as the sky shouts, but still there.

And I do hope they don't tone it down *too* much. My static is just starting 5-3 and I want to at least test myself on snoll before the update to see how much of a difference they're gonna make. I, like most people, don't want to see RMT flood sea, but if SE does this right it will still be too much of an effort for RMT, especially if they can still make easier gil in sky.

I still want a challenge, but my static gets very lucky if we can get together twice a week. A lot of the time we have trouble getting together once a week, and it's gonna be even tougher now that we have to backtrack for our WHM's replacement now that our static WHM quit for personal reasons.

Have you guys ever thought that SE is adding these changes because with the new expansion coming out later this year, they want more people doing that, and less doing Promathia and Zilart so they can focus bandwidth and resourses on the new areas?

the only thing im happy about is the snoll the rest was fine. im sorry i dont give a **** what you people say the snoll was overly diffuculy. not only was it hard but some jobs "were not allowed" to go because of there damage output.
this is the only thing that needed to be changed and finally was.

Wow...thats all i really have to say about this thread lol.
Ive never finished CoP because i honestly dont have the time to farm and whatnot. It bored the hell out of me seeing lvl caps and to me they were pretty lame. This update honestly still does not entice me to go headlong into gaining access to SEA. So, i have no ***** or compliments on this. Though i hope many of you will take the time to either try it or finish it....but stop the whining >.>. I'm much more interested in the upcoming addition to the FFXI experience. So keep playing hard and for those who have finished CoP congratulations.

im not one to make many posts but this thing has me a bit upset. the fact that there is no more exp losses in the battlefields was a good idea (those of you who completed cop without that are friggin intense cuz i woulda quit) cuz they are capped yet your full 75 job loses its max exp nonetheless. and it wasnt fair to cut your levels you worked hard for just to buy new gear so your char can compete at a 30,40, or 50 cap fight. aside from that adjustment, making the missions and bosses easier is ********* if you want access you an easy endgame area, do zilart where everyone and there mother has sky! dont get me wrong it takes a bit of skill to get there, but you get full use of your levels and equip, and there are no time limits (at least no unreasonable ones). hell i did all ZM thru sky in 2 days and not one time did my party consist of more than 4 ppl cuz you can easily do any mission aside from sky area missions with a full party of 65+ so a couple 75's can do them with ease. back to my point tho, sky is an area for anyone who put the time in to level there character and travel looooong distances for a few cs's. sea however is an exclusive area in which those who have a higher level of dedication for the game can enjoy without a billion people running around. the irony of all this is im not even one of those ppl! iv had the game since it came out 5yrs ago and i only have 1 75 job and a few 40-60 jobs and sky access, rank 8, and only at the airship fight of CoP. so take this rant as coming from someone who "should" like these nerfed updates cuz i simply dont have the time to do 2 or more 4+hr missions a week in order to keep up with a static and get sea within a month, iv been working at it for over a year and hope to finally get it within the end of this month. wrapping this up, if SE wants to do something to make ppl more excited about getting access to sea, just do something about the snoll, to an extent that fight is just not fair and i do know many ppl who quit cop based on that alone. having to farm the salts and then make the looong *** journy to the pinnacle for just a 1 time fight (yes 1 chance cuz theres no way in hell your gonna be able to take it without all yur 2hrs and salts) is ******** if you lose. so SE if you make an adjustment do it there so stop ppl from quitting, but pleeez dont make sea a cake walk like zilart, save an area for those who put that extra effort into the game. thats it^^

I just helped several LS members with Promy-Mea last night. As a decent lvl RNG I get asked to help with all of these fights often... and all they SUCK. I orginally did all three with the same group in an afternoon and never wanted to go thru again. We were very prepaired, and we won all 3 the first try. No Alliance to get us to the top...BUT I wasn't going back in there any time soon. The few times I have tried to help you get the usual assortment -people who don't listen to leaders, forgot food, drinks, and potions/medications...ect and the impatient player that doesn't want to wait for the mob to turn. This making helping people no much fun, yeah sign my up after my shock therapy! SE didn't say they were going ot make all the mobs lvl 1 bunnies!! They said they were going to be toned down....and lets face it--the players who arent prepaired are still going to fail, but for the others that take the time to prepair it may take 3-4 tries befor they clear Mea.lol

Im kind of glad they nerfed a few of those missions. Not because I needed it, they nerfed missions i already beat. Im glad because now you dont have to be a uber nerd that plays this game night and day to get Sea access. Im glad because people like me, 30 and up, who have kids a wife, a job, a mortgage, and al the fun stuff that comes with adulthood, can enjoy more of the game. I thought it was a little selfish of SE to create an expansion that required you to neglect your real life in order to beat. Kudos to yall that did it when it was hard... just dont believe that everyone who plays this game has access to the time and help all of you may have had to beat it.

I agree that those who beat these missions post nerf wont share some of the same satisfaction as those that spent weeks of their real lives farming items, strategizing, and wiping. Just remember that a lot of us dont have that kind of time.

Im a 75 BST that solo/duod/triod from 1-75... before the new areas, before the mpk patch, and before the great JSE and RSE 2 gear was out. So I feel somewhat supperior to the BST thats in a dunes pt with a PL and can now release a dangerous pet with no threat of it attacking. But does that take away from my accomplishment? Not in the least. And it doesnt make those other players any less of a BST than me, it just means we have different strengths.

There are still huge rewards for you guys that spend all night and day on the game. HNM camping, limbus, dynamis, salvage, etc. If your gonna knock people who beat an easier CoP than you, then we should also knock all these tp burn parties that get 5 merits a night thanks to the new ToAU areas and their squishy, high exp mobs.

We have a difinition in the streets for someone who gets mad whenever someone accomploishes something with greater ease than they could. HATER. Dont be a hater.

Yeah, I didn't play night and day to get sea access. My static met once a week. I have a job (I'm a civil engineer), no wife or kids, but still. If your wife lets you play one night a week you can get CoP done.

Again, I didn't have to neglect my real life to beat CoP. I rarely play weekends because I'm hanging out with friends or visiting family.

Caesaris wrote:

Thank you.

Some words of advise: If you have an idea for a strategy that isn't widely accepted for a certain BC and you have skilled people who are willing to try, go for it. No matter how many people say that you "need" a certain set up for a fight doesn't mean that there is no other way to do it. Don't be afraid to think outside the box. If your strategy doesn't work, tweak it and retry it.

Don't get discouraged just because something seems hard. Success is more rewarding when challenge is involved.

If the game was simple and easy it wouldn't be nearly as entertaining. I hope SE isn't making a dire mistake by simplifying things.

That sounds pretty good, but everyone knows it takes more than playing one night a week to meet the people who will form your static. Limited time means most of my time is spent leveling jobs and farming for gil. I'm in a airship fight pt right now.. hehe, i hope it goes well. We're @4, need 2 more. :)

I don't believe this!!! This game gets less challenging and easier with each and every update!

My best achievement in the game so far is to have completed all CoP after just over a year. I feel very proud to have completed the last half of the missions with a great static party on Phoenix server: Bartolo, Erlend, Zedigollia, Devoid and Soulas I salute you all. We completed it the way it was meant to be.... the hard way!!! With full EXP losses on failures to boot.

Why not just change the name of our game to World of Warcraft and move the servers Stateside?!

Dear SE,

In your next update please include the following changes.

No EXP loss ever,

Please change the ammount of currency needed to get a full upgraded relic weapon to 1 per stage.

Adjust the dmg rate of Fafhog, Jorm, Vrtra to 1 dmg per hit.

Make all nm drops 100% and have them pop every 5 mins.

Give everyone who completed Rank 10, RotZ, CoP, ToAU 1 free lvl 75 job per completion.

This will make the game more enjoyable for everyone! Thank you so much.

P.S. I and 1 million of my friends will email this to you 100 times each.

From what I could tell from others, the only mission that really needed an adjustment is Snoll. I've lost that damn fight 15 times, and it ain't because I'm not prepared, that's for damn sure.

Back when I led a group of people through missions, I would force them all to go out and farm up items that we'd need for the missions, and this is where we got stuck. It eventually got to the point where people dropped out or went on to do it with the easy jobs and then I had to resort to pickups. Needless to say, those didn't work out.

The exp boost is a very nice change. I'd be happy if that's all they did. I knew they added the no-exp loss so that people who beat it would be less inclined to say no to helping someone who can't find a party to beat it. This update just confirms it even moreso by now adding an exp bonus. Believe me, the exp thing ain't for people who haven't beaten it yet.

I will admit, I really want to beat Snoll before this update happens. I agree with the adjustment to him, at least, but after being dropped 15 times I would love to go in there a give him a nice big "F*ck you sir" while he's at full strength. But that's just me.

peace,
CR

EDIT:

Back when CoP first came out I was still level 30ish, so naturally, I loved Promyvions and did them the first chance I got. Trust me, you didn't need an alliance. In my experience, Alliance sucked, made it even harder to avoid aggro. Hell, I remember one time when we caught aggro on the way up and the only people to die were our WHMs, go figure. I, along with one other, actually warped all the way to the first portion of Holla, and excorted them back up to the Spire. Smaller groups can just get through there so much easier. Still can, though now I can solo to the spire on MNK((Hooray Boreas Cesti)) so yeah, things have changed a bit.

While I agree w/ many of you that the difficulty curve in FFXI in general and CoP in particular is what makes it a challenge and an alternative to WoW, you have to understand that from a money making point of view, SE has to make this game a bit more accessible to the casual player, and this is a step in that direction.

On that note, I'm proud of my Raja's Ring and what I had to go through to get it. I am a casual player who loves this game for the CS's and Storyline. I've just about finished ZM (just got DM to do and we're doing that this weekend) and I've finished CoP. I wouldn't trade the experience of these missions w/ the people I've done them with for anything in the world. I became a MUCH better player due to CoP. Due to the preparation I had to have for each and every mission. Took us 6 months to do it but damn it was worth it.

I just hope that "Particularly challenging Chains of Promathia battlefields... will have their difficulty level toned down" doesn't mean "We're going to make this easy as hell" but instead "We want to make this more doable to the average FFXI player, but still challenging"

I completed Promyvions when it was nearly impossible to make it to the BC without a full alliance. I was probably in the first 10% of the NA population to get to Lufaise Meadows. That made me proud.

My static tried Ouryu 13 times with the manaburn strategy before winning with an unconventional strategy for that BC which many people said would not work. That made me proud.

My static went 1/1 on Snoll Tzar. That made me proud.

I spanked Tenzen so hard Phoenix cried. I would have completed 2 solo Light skillchains on him if I hadn't missed my last Tachi:Kasha. 1/1 on Tenzen. That made me proud.

When I finally cleared CoP and got my Rajas Ring I was proud that I was able to grind through the toughest missions in the game.

I feel that my ring will never be tarnished, but the rings of those who are going through CoP now won't be quite as shiny.

Just eliminate all Mission

Here's a idea SE how about if you buy the COP expansion you automatically win all Mission's. WTF are you gearing the game towards 8 years olds and making it easier for RMT to get to certain areas?
