Well, I don't know if this will help but my install seemed to go flawless.
I installed vista recently so this is a fresh install.

I downloaded POL from SE's website and updated it immediately after it's install.

I then installed the collection CD and installed FFXI FFXIRoZ and FFXICoP from each separate folder.

I next installed the ToAU from the expansion disk for it.

As of this morning my chr was logged in at Whitegate. As for now, who knows?

Differing filesize

LOL, it was only a matter of time...

I have windows Vista RC2 Version installed from the public Beta, with all windows updates. I followed the instructions from the square-enix site, duly uninstalled playonline viewer and FFXI and downloaded the update. it weighed in at 50.9Mb (61,387Kb). After install, I put my original FFXI 2006 collection DVD into the drive, and clicked on setup.exe from the INST1 folder, and was greeted with a message of "playonline viewer is not installed, setup cancelled".
I was extremeley miffed, however, it appears that after downloading the playonline setup file again, (different size = 62,090kb/60.9Mb) it works fine. It's definitly worth checking that you have the correct filesize to save yourself a big headache...

hope this info helps

[Edit]...Still not working...Although everything seems to install fine. Upon launching, the screen falls back to the error message "full screen lost".

I have tried to get this running as installed and also by running under compatibility mode (windows xp service pack 2)

anybody have any ideas??

you do not need to purchase another version of ffxi if you have it for pc already, you just need to download the 60mb file to get POL to run
Wow

Talk about a annoying. Like I've said to my friends Vista is not as user friendly as they say it is. But noone likes to lissen to me, which is why I'm very rarely shocked by things when they happen. abd my copy of the game is an orginal copy from release date. that may force me to buy a new version of the game. Sigh that only means less money in my pocket. Thanl you SE for making it harder form me.
