New Expansion Announced: The Buried Sea

SOE has announced their latest expansion: The Buried Sea, which will become available only by digital download Tuesday, February 13.

The Buried Sea makes waves as the thirteenth expansion for the successful

SAN DIEGO, CA – January 12, 2007 – Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE), a global leader in the online games industry, today announced EverQuest® The Buried Sea™, a new expansion for the Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), EverQuest. EverQuest The Buried Sea will only be available via digital download beginning February 13th, for the suggested retail price of U.S. $29.99.

“As the new producer on EverQuest I am very excited to have this tremendous opportunity to work on such a storied franchise, as well as be part of a development team that has delivered successful expansions time and time again over the past eight years for our many loyal EQ players,” said Clint Worley, Producer, Sony Online Entertainment. “As the thirteenth expansion for EverQuest, The Buried Sea will continue to challenge players with two new worlds to explore, ship-to-ship combat on the open seas against swash-buckling pirates, and a variety of new missions created especially for this expansion.”

“The success of EverQuest is both a tribute to our devoted player base and our very committed development team,” said Christopher E. Sturr, Senior Global Brand Manager, Sony Online Entertainment. “EverQuest continues to deliver innovation, new features and challenging new content, which will be evident in The Buried Sea.”

The Buried Sea will also feature the ability for guilds to create a unique Guild Banner from a large selection of symbols and colors. The banner becomes the mark of the guild and when enough guild members are in the same zone, the guild leaders or officers can plant the banner in the ground. Once the banner is placed, members of that guild are able to teleport directly to that banner. In addition to the banners, players will have the ability to acquire Energeian items, utilizing ancient Combine technology; they can gain access to a new inventory slot that can be fitted with an Energeian power source and armor that can tap into the energy held within.

About EverQuest The Buried Sea
Throngs of undead trample the earth both night and day as Norrath's sun withers. With each passing hour, the growing numbers of creatures of the night rising from crypts and graves seem part of a grand design to overwhelm the lands. Trouble also lurks deep beneath the Buried Sea off the coast of Odus in a city named Katta Castrum, which has remained undiscovered for millennia. It is a city built to sustain the beloved leader of the Combine Empire who was poisoned. Generations of Combine Loyalists have tried to cure and awaken him while they house threatened populations of Kedge, Shissar, and Sphinx. But in recent times, the artifact that powers and protects their city has weakened. Without it, the city will be crushed under the pressure of the sea. Only the most intrepid Norrathians have the power to save them.

EverQuest The Buried Sea Features
• Ship-to-Ship Combat – Cross the plank and fight for your life on the open seas as you raid pirate vessels!
• Two Paths of Advancement – Battle pirates on the open seas or dive deep beneath the sea to Katta Castrum, lost stronghold of the Combine Empire.
• New Missions – Take your group through more than 60 challenging new missions ranging from defending merchant vessels against marauding pirates to uncovering the secrets behind the combine city and the danger that threatens it!
• Guild Banners – Design a guild emblem and display it with pride! Upgrade your banner to grant your guild special abilities and plant it on the field of battle so your fellow guild members can teleport directly to it!
• Fellowships – Get together with a group of your closest friends and start your own fellowship! You can join in a common chat channel, gain the ability to create a campfire that can help you in your adventures, and get a token that will let you quickly travel to your other fellowship members.
• Energeian Items – Utilizing ancient Combine technology, gain access to a new inventory slot that can be fitted with an Energeian power source and armor that can tap into the energy held within! The armor gains power based on the type of energy in the power source, so you can quickly customize the effects of your armor by changing the power source!

The EverQuest base game is required for this expansion. For more information on EverQuest The Buried Sea please visit: http://www.everquest.com. Preorders begin on January 16th at www.everquest.com

as a player in a high end guild, even this expantion looks sad. at this rate, they better be planning another server combine because I have yet to see a positive comment about SOE. that said, this new expantion better entail some incredibly useful new aa's and spell's or its bout to be LoY all over again.
Nothing New

Doesn't look like there is anything outstanding about this release. I think they should take more time to build great expansions that people will want. No need for so-so expansions every 6 months.
not worth it for $30

The Crapspansion Alert just went off.

A nice purty banner to TP straight to once you are in the zone. . . CoH mage does same thing.

Boat fights. . . novelty idea, kinda like shrouding down to play with your lowbie friends. . . sounds like fun, until you try it. How many peeps typically log in, shroud up, and head out? NOT!!

Another inv item slot, like when they added CHARM. Adds some value to your avatar, but nothing game-changing.

I am not saying I wont buy it. I am saying I wont buy it until it drops in price to $9.99 in 6 months (or a year). At least then, the value for what you are getting is more in line with the price you are paying to download it. It's a $9.99 sub-standard expansion, being hawked at the $29.99 standard price.

Pass. . .for now.

Spum
So is this in Luclin?

So the lore for the Combine Race is up for a new story... i kinda like expansions... it kinda make the story of the game never ending...(maybe thats why its called EVERQUEST) so why do folks keep on complaiing in every expansion... to tell yah the truth its hella lots of answer to that.

Add and post if yah want but here goes my top 3

1) Folks who love story and exploring have already completed the recent expansion... ever tried running around checking views and stuff rather getting scared of dying... dude theres always a guild lobby hehehe and most zones have like limits so you have to do something to get that entry.

2) Challenges are already broken down and needed something different... you may not be in the same guild or a casual raider... but what the heck are you doing waiting for things to happen... gamers suppose to bet the game and do something wild.

3) Having lots of friends in this game really helps... so why not build your character... not the one your controling... but the character towards other players... maybe just maybe they will let you in and join in their adventures. Game requires alot of friends so build your connection rather than complain because your not always playing.
Still 30 dollars. hrmm

Hehehe new eq expansion... 29.99 .. vanguard... 49.99. Sony should begin to examine their price point for a 6-7 year old game.
Still 30 dollars. hrmm

I won't *****, I won't moan...I just won't buy the new expansion. Total waste of time and money and yet another example of SoE being out of touch with the EQ community.
Sigh~~

No one is holding anyone at gunpoint.. not interested in a new exspansion? fine don't DL it. I run 4 accts on Bertox, not in an ubah guild and have fun. All that is my choice. In the 7 years I have played have run into a "bug" twice. not bad odds considering. I tried other games found them sadly lacking. But SOE will not take a Hit contract on you if ya choose to not get new one. Just try not to whine in POK when you can't get what you want.
oh god

Hello mother, hello father...another expansion, lots of downtime, sony's digging, for falce hope, and robbing every idea from other mmo's....

Dear Sony,

As if TSS was not way over the line...a lvl 1 "hail & hail" quest that gives an item better than what vox and naggy dropped, ok. Raising the lvl cap to 75, and making the end-game even harder for 90% of us to reach, ok, nothing new there. New expansion every 6 months? Haven't you guys learned by now? Keep going with the old world revamps, fix old bugs, for the love of god, half of the world has not even walked into Ashgate or Vald as of yet. What in the hell are you people thinking?! There were quests in freeport that were broken in beta, and were broken all the way up to the revamp of freeport. Now, this tells me one thing....FIX OLD CONTENT FIRST.

P.S. Please, load the crackpipe withwhatever you guys have been burning over there, so that maybe I might better undestand what you guys are thinking.
can you say Vanguard
# Jan 14 2007 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
ship to ship combat, guild banners, fellowships, Yea no wonder they popped this one out so quick, they just take things from Vanguard. i wouldnt be suprised to see more stuff from Vanguard and WoW. hey Sony heres a idea quit thinking about your wallets and start thinking about the players. we dont need 20 expantions. how about some content for the soloer's, maybe instead of every 6 months, try 1 a year and make the content worth it to get
New Expansion sounds great

EQ stopped making expansions aimed at the casual player base because the casual player base are the ones that are easily swayed to the new games. They leave for WOW, Eve, and other MMOs because they don't want to raid 3-5 days a week. Not saying thats bad, its a game, not a way of life. But the high end players are more invested in the game, and want the new content because they have busted through the others. They are also the most loyal, staying with the one cause there is always new content.
I started playing EQ around the launch of POP, and as long as I have been playing, SOE has put out an expansion twice a year. For as many that hate the new ones, there are just as many who like it. SOE can't cater to everyone, even when our numbers dwindle. But I would like to see them incorprate us able to name our pets. With as clever as people have gotten with their own character names, I don't think they would fight over the 1 really punny pet name.
My cheap 2 cents
How about marketing this game for once?
# Jan 14 2007 at 1:18 PM Rating: Decent
There is absolutely nothing that makes me want to get this. YAY A new inventory slot with Energian that you can put on items to add to them. Don't they have this already...it's called augments. No levels, no aa's, just new gear. My guild is in DoDh/PoR expansions atm, and playing around with TSS stuff.

How about SoE actually market the game to new players instead of trying to rush expansion after expansion out so people wont leave for WoW, Vanguage, RandomMMO_08. I've not seen one commercial or print advertisement for this game in recent months, maybe a year. EQ2 ads yes in magazines, but not real advertising the way WoW has been going and getting players. EQ isn't doing that, just trying to retain.

I enjoy this game and will continue to play it, but would love to see more people come to the game, instead of just trying to hold the ones here that are here now.
Banners

Only thing I really like about this is the banners. Will be nice to plant it where we're gonna be raiding and expedite the beginning of raids. ther than that /yawn

Ok let get this right, it now cost about 238$ a year to play one account on eq this is with 2 expansions a year, we play on an engin that is 7 years old. I don’t know why we should pay so much to play a game that is so old.

You basically just summed up the storyline of EQ2...

I think they are going too fast with these expansions but like said elsewhere for pushing them out so quickly they are actually coming out pretty decent. I was happy with the last few expansions.
old bugs vs. new expansions

LOL !! did i hear a "maybe they will fix??"

hahahahaha ..
maybe one day... in 2 or 3 years there will be an expansion called ; "fixing old and ancient bugs"
to be able to play without these bugs you must get this expansion, avaiable only via digital download.

it have been like this for too long now.
first a small expansion, then a big expansion comes out.. next; 1 small, 1 big..
some bugs in the new expansions get fixed, but the good old bugs ? no.. leave them! no one ever bother to go those old zones anyways,so why fix bugs in empty zones?

i honestly think SOE need to look into bugs, exploits, ect instead of pushing so many new expansions out all the time.

It's getting completely out of hand, the rate at which we're getting these expansions... but have any of the expansions really sucked that badly? I may be a little wierd, but I love the RP involved with EQ. Well... the lore, more importantly. Luclin quite possibly being my favourite, and, with this expansion expanding upon the Tsaph Katta lore, his being poisoned and taken away by elves, I think it'll be quite interesting.

No, I'm not a high-end player. Not yet, anyhow. I have bazaar or groupable equipment. I'm not rich, and I only have 61 aas to my name. But I still manage to have fun in the "high end" expansions... Omens, Gates, Darkhollow... honestly, Ro is a little bit higher than I am at this point in time, but I'm working on it.
Very Interesting
# Jan 13 2007 at 9:35 PM Rating: Good
I love expansions, Im a casual player, but every expansion allows me to get a couple more new items, my warrior has absolutly nothing " High end " but he gets along just fine in single group pick ups.

However, I find it interesting that the EQ world continues to " find " new races and cultures when it has about 200 zones that are completely empty.

How about the next expansion be called EQ cataclyism..world destroyed by..oh I dunno..some anceint lost race of Hampster people...anyway world destoyed..remake all the zones new gear, mutant mobs etc...get rid of all the wasted space eq servers are using now.

oh yeah! Let us name our own pets!

Safe hunts and rare drops to you!
Very Interesting

Must agree, it's an expansion every 6 months or so. Always has been.

This is becoming a joke ... A new expansion every 6 months? ... Why? ... It takes longer than 6 months to explore the new expansion. This tells me how out of touch SOE is. This is why our population is shrinking. The average player isn't able to keep up and makes us want to play other games.

i'll bet this new expan., is for high end gamers ,i never really get to ude the stuff from the last expantion

No thanks, too many freakin expansions anyways. Sounds like another Expansion with underconned KOS mobs tightly spawned everywhere. Wouldn't be surprised if over half the stuff advertised will only help the hardcore lvl 75's with raid gear and craptons of AA.
