PvP Server Information

Mark Jacobs posted on the Camelot Herald last night some more information on the PvP server! Looks to be quite interesting. Read on... It took us a while but here is some information about the PvP server that we are developing to make things a little bit more interesting in our world. Folks, First, let me start this off by thanking all the players who took advantage of our offer to send in their thoughts, suggestions, criticisms and comments regarding the proposed PvP server that is coming your way. This is a perfect example of how the gaming community got involved and made its wishes known to us. Second, you can stop now, at least as regards the PvP server. :)The major change in this server type from what was originally planned is that you may notice that this server is a little more extreme than we originally planned and that I talked about both here on on the boards. A perfect example of the PvP community both within and outside of Mythic at work. The creation of a set of rules for this server was only slightly more difficult than trying to open a coconut shell without tools or rocks, both involved a lot of head banging. Creating a server which rewards those players who want to spend most of their time fighting players rather than NPCs is not an easy task. To date, every ORPG that has tried to incorporate such a rule set has had its issues. We fully expect that our server will as well. However, it is our goal to create a variant on our world that will be the best PvP-oriented server to date. One whose audience will be broad enough to not only justify the work we will have done by its release but also broad enough to justify ongoing additions to the server so that it would stand as a game apart from the “standard” DAoC and not just a different rule set. To get to the heart of the matter, what follows now are some of the things you will be seeing on this server. Work on it has begun in earnest and we will be able to give the community a time estimate in the next couple of weeks. However, the time is certainly sooner rather than later and I suspect that some people will be helping test the PvP server a lot quicker than you might expect. Please keep in mind that this is not the full rule set nor is meant to be final in any way. Nor does it contain all the cool things we have planned for the server both on launch and a little further down the road. Remember, much of what you see here is the result of much debate both within Mythic and from the community. As always, I must say that things may (and usually do) change and we are not promising that everything in this list will make the final cut due to either time pressure, peer pressure, design pressure or other kinds of press your luck. So, without further ado here is “Ten Things Every PvPer Should Know.” Enjoy! Mark 1) No Realm affiliations. Players are free to join groups, guilds and alliances with any member of any other Realm. Players of all races can communicate freely with one another. 2) Wide open PvP. Any player can attack any other player that is not in their group, guild, or alliance. 3) Players will get experience for killing other players. There will be a death penalty as well; details on that will be released later. 4) Relics will be controlled by Guilds/Alliances, not by Realms. Guilds/Alliances can store any Relic controlled by them in any Outpost they control. 5) Players can shop at any store, although they will not be able to use items that require skills they don't have. They can, however, sell loot at any store. 6) Travel between the Realms will be faster and easier to do. 7) Darkness Falls will be open to all players at all times. 8) Capital Cities will be safe areas. You will be able to exit Capital Cities to many destinations besides the current gates. 9) You will be given a small time of PvP immunity after zoning or entering the game. You will also be given a small time of immunity after you resurrect at a bindstone (which is obviated if you attack anyone in that time). 10) Players under 10th level have a "PvP" flag that can be permanently removed at any time - if the flag is set, you cannot attack other players or be attacked while in your Realm's home zones.
