Additions and Adjustments to Chocobo Raising (09/25/2006)

Soon players can expect more from care plans and experience a variety of new chocobo colors and appearances. Chocobo raisers have a lot to look forward to in the next version update!

Changes to Care Plans and Direct Care

Chocobo attributes will soon increase at a greater rate when using care plans. In addition, several additions and adjustments will be made to direct care, and a measure to wake the chocobo up while sleeping will also be introduced.

New Chocobo Colors

In addition to the existing yellow, black, and blue, two new chocobo colors will be added. Players will be able to enjoy a maximum of chocobo variety in the next version update!

Changes to Chocobo Appearance

Soon, chocobo appearance will slightly change according to attributes. This will not alter the chocobo's appearance completely, but rather will reflect certain strengths that the animal has acquired during the chocobo raising process. For example, a highly intelligent chocobo's head may appear different than that of a normal chocobo, and a speedy chocobo may be distinguished by its sturdy legs.

*Please note that a chocobo that you are already raising will not suddenly change color or appearance with this version update

So if you raise a chocobo with high intellect and an incredibly large head, but it has flimsy little legs...does it tip over every once in awhile while you're riding it? Just a thought.

My thought is that with a higher Int it will probably be able to listen to your raising plans much more effectively using items or skills with better timing.

Ex: If they go this route of course say you tell your choco to boost ahead at 100m out of say a 500m race. A chocobo with low int may get the timing wrong or boost too soon or too late. Where as a chocobo with higher int will have a closer proximety to the range of your desired boost maybe by a few meters.

I can see how you feel, but that's a bad perspective on life.

"I mean, honestly. I had the best computer in the world yesterday. It took me a fortune to make. And now the parts cost much less! Not only that, people are getting more RAM and better graphics cards! What the heck!?"

It's all in the state of human advancement. Sure, maybe SE could have been nice and added some of the features relating to how the chocobo looks to your current chocobos. Hell, they could have possibly made it that your yellow chocobo you raised before the update could have a chance of being red or green. But it would be a hassle to make preexisting chocobos adapt to these changes due to some technical problem.

Would you rather have something to make chocobos better in the long run or not? Seriously, did you only plan to raise one chocobo? If so, it's your right to complain. If not, it's the same argument as to when the exp to the level cap was lowered by almost 150k. It's the same argument against adding in exp bands. It's the same argument as adding an expansion pack. Sure, maybe these things made your past less of an accomplishment. "Finished CoP? Who cares! ToAU is out." (essentially) But it'll certainly make your future more appealing.

Take it as you will.

My 2 gil.

P.S.: That's how everything new is. It's probably going to be extremly expensive just in part due to its rarity and newness. Some will want the fastest chocobo on the server first.

ive never had my chocobo fall asleep when i tried to do anything with it. The closest it ever go tto that for me was when id set it to a resting care plan, and then when that plan was over, it would wake up
Good Job

It is a goog thing SE is making these changes, it'll make raising my next chocobo even easier with the new stat boosts.

I'm sorry that your guys paid millions to raise your chocobo, but you have no one to blame but yourselves. I've fed my chocobo vomp carrots, carrot paste, tokopekko grass, and guasebit grass at their needed times and I never paid more than 50,000g to raise my choco (that millet stuff costs alot).

Mine slept for 4 days and woke up after it did some group training with other chocobos. I believe their is a certain reason they sleep over what you tell them. Kind of like when you try to wake up your kids for school and they go back to sleep.

So will my chocobo get a boost in all his skills or is this only for new chocos? I really hope that they boost all current chocos. I've spent quite a bit and will think it's BS if someone can come along now with prices dropped and get possibly better effects.

Since my chocobo is poor in every category, I wonder if mine is going to have a regular body with puny legs and a shrunken head.

Ok after looking at the picture and compairing it to the pics that the data miners have been showing, I'm going to assume that what happend is that the current color models are from a previous attempt at chocobo modeling that were unsatisfactory. So we'll probably never see those particular green blue, black, and red chocobos. We've already got the black and blue (no bruise jokes please). This should mean that we're getting red and green in the october update. From the pic though the red and green will probably be updated to the quality of model we've seen with the blu and black that actualy came out.
Well, I guess this is good

My chocobo has sleeping for a week now, and I've tried the trick of setting it to Basic Care. It just doesn't want to wake up. I think Hantileon slipped it something while I wasn't looking.

Anyway, it's good to know that SE is trying their best to fix what we see as a problem. Usually it seems to take them a lot longer than this. >_>;

The good: Waking up your chocobo. My friend's has been asleep for 12 days. We presume it's dead.

The bad: new colors and physical features that currently breeding chocobos or chocobos bred before the update can not obtain.

In other words, there's going to be alot of homeless chocobos come October....

My bird was also comatose for 12 days straight until it decided to wake up hating my guts and starving...don't worry, things are better now although it rides slower than molasses in January. After 3 GM calls and 2 bug reports, I found out that there was no true "solution" on how to wake up the birds. It did not matter if you set it to Basic Care 1 or 2 days on Plan 0 or if you put it to rest for a day or 2. It was purely a luck of the draw that some never had the problem, some woke up in a couple of days, and some threw the chocobo handlers in jail where they are serving consecutive life terms for chloroforming the birds in an effort to sell them to Perdue as oven-stuffer roasters. Actually, one GM thinks that it may have had to do with certain times certain events happened in the chocobo life cycle. However all of them cocluded that it was definately a troublesome bug that S-E employees were having problems with. However what was the most troubling the GM's said was that SE was not admitting to the general public that the bug was there...

So it is nice to know that they are fixing it so that future raisers never have to deal with the problems some of us had to endure. And it will be interesting to see how the new colors and attributes will show up.

From what I understand, the problem is that you can't feed a sleeping chocobo, and you can't wake a "starving" chocobo. Try setting all your care options (Plan 0-3) to "Basic Care", which will feed your chocobo, and should wake it after a day or two. That's what woke mine up.

Also set the duration to 1 day - my chocobo was alseep for several days and it finally woke when I set Care Plan 0 and 1 to Basic Care with 1 day duration. By the way, my chocobo was extremely pissed when I finally got it awake.

I called a GM but he only referred me to the various FFXI sites stating that there were no problems with the Chocobo system. By SE adding an option to wake up your chocobo, I think they realize there is a flaw in the current system.

It proves that SE are idiots. Instead of fixing a bug in their own code, they patch it with additional code which doesnt really fix the original problem. They seem arrogant like their code is so dam perfect. If SE had any brains they'd stop being dip ***** and fix the dam bugs in the game.
