Event Related
  • The new “Ruins of Alzadaal” region has been added.
  • The following adjustments have been made to Besieged:
Changes to Besieged as a whole:
-After a beastman army retreats, the enemy forces in that army’s stronghold will immediately begin to increase. The enemy forces will increase very slowly at first, but will gradually increase at a faster rate.
-If the enemy forces are reduced to a certain point, the rate at which they increase will accelerate.
-The enemy forces will increase if a player is KO’d in a beastman stronghold.
Changes to the beastman strongholds:
-New sections have been added to the beastman strongholds.
-Notorious monsters have been added that will periodically increase the enemy forces in the beastman strongholds.
-Archaic mirrors will now be surrounded by defending beastmen.
-Archaic mirrors now appear more frequently and have much higher endurance. In accordance with this change, players will receive more Imperial Standing credits when trading an archaic mirror to an Imperial guard.
Changes to Besieged battles:
-If certain notorious monsters in the beastman strongholds have not been defeated, units will be added to the armies advancing on Al Zahbi that have special characteristics, such as units that perform particular actions or can only be defeated under certain conditions.
-New notorious monsters have been added to the armies advancing on Al Zahbi.
-The monsters of each army are now able to use new special abilities.
-The rate of Imperial defense reduction after Besieged battles has been adjusted.
-When an army retreats while advancing towards Al Zahbi, it will now be counted the same as a successful Besieged battle in Al Zahbi.
-A status icon will appear when you are participating in a Besieged battle.

  • The new mercenary ranks “Lance Corporal” and “Corporal” have been added. In accordance, a number of new items have been added to the list of goods that can be earned with Imperial Standing credits.
  • The following changes have been made to Assault:
Five new missions are available at the rank of Lance Corporal, and another five missions at the rank of Corporal.
When participating in an Assault mission with more than the minimum number of people, the penalty on the number of Assault Points earned per person has been decreased.
The number of Assault Points earned for each Assault mission has been adjusted to better reflect the level of difficulty.

  • The following features have been added to the Mog Locker:

Players can now expand their Mog Lockers to hold a maximum of 60 items.
By speaking to the Aht Urhgan NPC Fubruhn and completing the necessary procedures, players can use their Mog Lockers in all Mog houses and rent-a-rooms in Vana’diel.
*However, these procedures will shorten the length of a Mog Locker lease from 7 to 5 Earth days. A Mog Locker lease costs one Imperial bronze piece to renew. In addition, the remaining time on the current lease will be proportionately reduced.
*At any time, you can switch between being able to use the Mog Locker in only Al Zahbi and being able to use it in other areas. If you choose to limit your Mog Locker use to Al Zahbi, the restrictions imposed on the Mog Locker lease will no longer be in effect.

  • The following changes have been made to Al Zahbi and Aht Urhgan Whitegate:

-The chocobo stables in Al Zahbi have opened.
*However, the NPCs at the chocobo stables may be captured during Besieged, disabling chocobo use until their rescue.

-The following NPCs have been added to Aht Urhgan Whitegate:
An equipment storage NPC
A special event item storage NPC
A Pursuivant NPC to transport players to Brenner and Ballista matches
A weather forecast NPC

-The Aht Urhgan Whitegate NPC “Kaduru-Haidaru” has started a new service for regular patrons.

-When the Astral Candescence is taken by the beastmen, players will only be able to use the NPC Shihu-Danhu for transport to the areas around Jeuno once per Vana’diel day.

-The services of guild shops and other NPCs affiliated with certain captured NPCs will now be unavailable as long as the affiliated NPC is captured.

-The time it takes for a prisoner to return to Al Zahbi after being freed has been adjusted.

  • The following changes have been made to the Kokba Hostel:

-Interior decorations have been added to the hostel.
-A bard is now available to change the BGM inside the hostel.
*The BGM will change only for the player who selected the song from the bard.
-Players outside the Kokba Hostel will no longer be able to hear conversations using /say or emotes from inside the hostel.
*However, /shout will still be heard by players both inside and outside the hostel.
-The linkshell settings option has been removed from the entry options list.

  • The following new quests have been added for the blue mage, corsair, and puppetmaster jobs:

-Artifact quests -- Players will receive equipment specific to their jobs (artifact armor) by completing these quests.
-Limit break quests -- Players can raise their maximum level to 75 by completing the limit break quest for their job.
*The new limit break quests will only be made available after the player has completed all artifact quests for that job.

  • A number of new quests have been added to the Treasures of Aht Urhgan areas.
  • The quest “Totoroon’s Treasure Hunt” will now cover several more items and areas.
  • The “Sanction” status icon has been altered.
  • Players can now receive a new Lamian fang key by checking a “???” point in Caedarva Mire after each Conquest results tally.
  • The following changes have been made to Conflict (Ballista and Brenner):
Changes to both Ballista and Brenner:
-Players hit repeatedly with Stun will gradually develop a resistance to the ability. This resistance will decrease with time.
-The following changes have been made to the blue magic spell “Self-Destruct”:
The damage will be split among the number of players in the caster’s area of effect.
The caster will now retain a slightly greater amount of HP after casting Self-Destruct.

Changes to Brenner only:
The graphical effect that appears when a Flammen-Brenner consumes a Petra and recovers from damage has been altered.
  • An issue in which the “Warhorse Hoofprint” was not appearing for long periods of time has been fixed.
Battle Related
  • New notorious monster battlefields have been added to the Treasures of Aht Urhgan areas.

Requirements
In order to enter these new battlefields, it is necessary to speak to the NPC Shajaf in Aht Urhgan Whitegate after becoming a mercenary, and obtain a special key item in exchange for Imperial Standing credits.

When a monster with accumulative magic resistance is hit by a magic attack, the amount of damage it receives will decrease in accordance with that monster's resistance. At the same time, its resistance will increase.

The monster's resistance will increase in accordance with the amount of damage incurred, but each monster has a maximum resistance level.

The Group 1 and Group 2 subcategories have separate totals for the maximum number of possible ability increases.
You can access Group 2 abilities by spending 1 point on the ability you wish to learn. Additional points spent on the same ability will shorten the recast time or enhance the effect (refer to the help text for each ability to learn the specific bonus).
Lowering the number of merit points in an ability to zero will cause it to disappear from your ability list.
After obtaining the dragoon job trait "Empathy," you will be able to use the job ability "Spirit Link" even when your wyvern is at maximum HP.

Personally I like the whole new merits thing. It gives us lower level players more of a reason too get to the lofty limits of 75. I'll be playing like a mad-man trying to get to 75 just so I can get the new blood pacts for my smn and maybe even get some whm merits for when I start levelling that.

XP regained when Raise 3 is used on someone that can benefit from it's effects:

According to Somepage, MysteryTour, and FFXIclopedia: 90%
According to Allakhazam: 99%

That's what the different sites say. Since I don't have access to such a spell, I'm just going off of what the different sites say.

How about when Square says they're going to do something to the jobs, they do it so that people that don't have tons of time to even GET to meriting can have fun with it? Ever since the news in March, I was really psyched about having new abilities, even if it's something small that grew over time. But now hearing that I'm not able to actually utilize any of this stuff for at least another 3 months is really pissing me off.

NOT EVERYONE IS LEVEL 75, SQUARE!

Some of have been 75 for a loooooooooooooooong time and this is a break for us because the same old moves for years was becoming a drag. You're receiving no different treatment than we have up until Lv.75. Please don't be so unthankful. We all had to work our way to 75. Atleast you won't have to ding 75, and wait for 4 years before getting access to knew rewards. So try to understand that we've earned this. Most of the other updates in the past have been tailored to lower lvls. Nerfing EXP TNL (which was a huge slap in the face to those who busted their butts to hit 70+), nerfing damage, nerfing tanking, all balance jobs out for ppl to find it easier to lvl to endgame. I say once you've hit 75 with a job or two, and start meritting then you have earned a voice to complain with. Until then, please be happy with the road that has been paved for you.

Amen Fielle, what our new friend here fails to understand is that prior to the addition of Assault, Besieged, Promy, and Dynamis we occupied ourselves with the other activities in the game.

Icegod, you sound much like a child who wants to go to the bar, visit the 30+ clubs, and enjoy retirement when you just got the position. Stop putting the cart before the horse man. We've paid our dues. We're tired of low level activities. Up until those above activities we concerned ourselves with the Genkais, the Rank missions, the quests for fame, the avatars, and so forth. But SE happens to want to make the game fun for all levels. After 6 or so years it just so happens that most in this game are 75. Now, if you want to keep old, dedicated patrons you need activities that capture their attention beyond the things they're used to. SE also wants to build a value in hitting endgame. They don't want you to just get right to the retirement activities, they want you to work up to them in anxious anticipation. But also to have other things to occupy your attention along the way. In your present condition, if you got right down to Dynamis, Sky, Promys, Assault and so forth, you'd probably end up starting a "This game is too &$@%! hard!!!" thread and quitting early. When you hit 75 and marinate in godhood for a few months with absolutely nothing to do (and hardly anything presents a challenge any longer) you'll appreciate the endgame activities the way they are meant to... Not as forbidden fruit you just want to eat because everyone else seems to be enjoying it.

I'm not some newbie that doesn't know how to play. I know that Dynamis, Promies, Sky, Sea, etc. are frickin hard. I've been playing since before CoP came out. I remember going to the store and buying Chains to get access to the new stuff that I couldn't do yet. If I hadn't had to start all over, I'd probably be level 75. I know how to play, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of those places. However, with so many people not wanting to do those sorts of things (hell, it took me 3 days to get 4 other people for the 2-3 dragon), I can't do them. I payed $90 for this game as well as $13 a month for the past 2 or so years, and I just want to get the most out of this game. I haven't even finished the damn story yet.
Re: and the low levels get......
# Jul 25 2006 at 4:16 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, and some of us don't have jobs that are that high and would like to do something other than level all the damn time. But that's all that anyone wants to do anymore. So ToAH comes out, and there's all this new stuff..... that I can't do. And because everyone is focusing on leveling up, no one is willing to do anything that people who aren't 75 can do. The game is becomming very unfriendly to lower levels in that respect. Ok, there's nerfed XP, but there's still very little for those of us not lvl 75 to do. Hell, those of us under level 50 have little to do. If all the content doesn't really happen until at least level 50, just start me at level 50.

I WANT to do promys. I WANT to do Assault. I WANT to do Besieged. I WANT to do Dynamis. I CAN'T do any of those because I'm either too low of a level or no one else will do them because they want to level or they're doing something else I can't do.

The road to leveling may be paved, but the paths leading to everything else aren't cleared anymore.

Zero level requirement there.

Theres also capped Ballista, BCNMs, ENMs, Garrison, Escort missions, an un-ending myriad of quests throughout the game, Avatar fights, CoP BC's are capped at 40 or under for the first 1/3 of the missions.

Quit whining, there's plenty to do.

"I'm either too low of a level or no one else will do them because they want to level or they're doing something else I can't do."

Capped doesn't mean I can solo or even duo them.

I'm going to assume that this follow-up patch for repairing issues found from this one will hopefully include the new Chocobo raising.

But at least I'm very grateful they finally granted us the chocobos in Al Zabi. I can now explore the new areas without having to fret over spending assloads of money on sneak/invis items. -_-;;

....Wow~ what a typical level 75 player >.<;;

I dont care to make 75.... because it seems like you usually turn into a self-centered jerk when you get there!
Sure lvl 75's deserve some new challenges & such; absolutely no argument there.... but lower levels have really been shafted with ToAU & everything since;;
WAKE UP SE!! Your game is made of level 1 to level 75..... why didn't you give the lower levels something substantial too!!!

every time a low level gets a level up they get new stuff, they start to access more of the game, after a 75 has done everything, they cant just level up and get more, thats it, they need new challenges, new stuff, SE gives the 75's a few new abilities and spells, and if it doesnt do anything for someone, they complain about it. at least SE updates and adds this stuff for the game, i'm sure a lot of mmorpgs don't

we will all be able to get this stuff eventually, why complain about it??

for the record, i am not level 75

as for saying that 75's seem to be all stuck up or w/e, think thats cos they know what they mean, they have played this game all the way through, and they get challenged and complained about by everyone else

/rant off

How about when Square says they're going to do something to the jobs, they do it so that people that don't have tons of time to even GET to meriting can have fun with it? Ever since the news in March, I was really psyched about having new abilities, even if it's something small that grew over time. But now hearing that I'm not able to actually utilize any of this stuff for at least another 3 months is really pissing me off.

NOT EVERYONE IS LEVEL 75, SQUARE!
