Expansion Announcement: Prophecy of Ro

The following is a press release from Sony Online Entertainment regarding the upcoming release of the newest EverQuest expansion, Prophecy of Ro: ======================================================== SONY ONLINE ENTERTAINMENT ANNOUNCES EVERQUEST® PROPHECY OF RO™ EXPANSION FOR EVERQUEST® Transform the Online World of Norrath Like Never Before SAN DIEGO, CA – January 3, 2006 – Sony Online Entertainment Inc. (SOE), a worldwide leader in massively multiplayer online gaming, today announced EverQuest® Prophecy of Ro™, a new expansion for the incredibly popular PC Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG), EverQuest®. EverQuest Prophecy of Ro is scheduled to be available at retail and for digital download from Sony Online Entertainment in February for the suggested price of U.S. $29.99. “EverQuest Prophecy of Ro will give players the opportunity to interact with and transform the online world of Norrath like never before,” said Chris Sturr, Sr. Brand Manager, Sony Online Entertainment. “In addition to a variety of new features, EverQuest Prophecy of Ro continues the fascinating storyline as new and old players alike explore, battle and adventure through EverQuest on more than 30 new missions encountering new creatures and environments throughout the journey.” Players will be able to interact with the world thanks to three new features. The first, spheres of influence, can be used to thwart your enemies or aid allies. The second feature is a trap system that will let players deceive opponents with player-set traps. And for the first time in EverQuest, players will be able to destroy objects in the world; doors can be bashed in, walls can be toppled and towers can be destroyed, leading to a new level of interactivity within the game and opening up a new realm of design. About EverQuest Prophecy of Ro The gods have returned and the mortal realm shifts with their influence. But a new presence walks among the gods, a malevolent force released into godhood by the follies of mortals. Unbound by the laws of the pantheon, it leaves corruption in its wake and threatens to bring the entire pantheon crumbling down. The only hope for Norrath hangs on the very mortals who have unleashed this upheaval. EverQuest Prophecy of Ro includes the following features: -Player-set Traps: Control your battles before they even begin by deceiving your opponents with a new arsenal of player-set traps! -Spheres of Influence: Transform the world of Norrath by creating magical spheres of influence to thwart your enemies or aid your allies. These artifacts will create a localized area where the rules of the game can change. -Destructible Objects: Interact with and destroy pieces of the game world leading to a new level of interactivity within the game. Chop down doors, tumble walls, and destroy encampments! -Buff Filters: Decide which buffs you would rather auto-decline with the new buff filtering system! -8 New Bank Spaces -New Missions: Battle your way through over 30 new missions. -New Creatures, New Environments and New Encounters: More than 25 unique creatures, 7 Zones, and 6 Small Instances. -New Spells, Tasks, Disciplines and Trade skills The new expansion will be downloadable via the EverQuest Station Store for U.S. $29.99 (plus tax where applicable). Retailers will be offering a boxed version that will carry a suggested retail price of $29.99, as well as a special in-game item, a Warhorse mount, for players to enjoy. Additionally, a reduced price of $26.99 will be available to consumers who pre-order and purchase the digital download version direct from Sony Online Entertainment. When Ro'd Prophecy includes haveing that 9th toon on a server, then I will buy a new expansion. I've bought too many at $29.99 and seen them all thrown together for some newby to spend his $29.99 and get what I spent $289 for. All I want tis for some of the bugs to be fixed and a new toon slot.
why so fast

I just started to play EQ in March of this year so i am still a noob. I probably would to interact with things in the world as long as they come with a price. If you break something in a shop, maybe you have to pay for it or get sent to jail. I don't mind in having a mount, they cost so much. Just remember the faster the expansion comes out the less interested people may become so becareful.
slow down

Sony needs to slow down on the xpansions and let us try to enjoy the ones we've already purchased, at least for a little while.
Hmmm

This expansion will probably be quite good, storywise. "Prophecy of Ro"? You guys all remember the book of Sol Ro behind the building in Castle Mistmoore's graveyard?

Hmmm... another in-game mount. Way to be creative guys! While I like the expanded bank slots for tradeskills, everything else sounds thrown together. Being able to destroy stuff, wasn't that also touted from LDoN? Granted, I'd like to trash things in game, but I don't think they will let me kick down the PoK bridge. Smiley: laugh Traps and spheres seem interesting, but frankly not worth the money. I think I'll sit this initial pulse out and wait for it to show up at BestBuy for $12.00 like I've done the past few.
At least this is on its way.......

At least we can be able to take out a door without a Key. How many times has that got any of us mad. Also now a Rogue has an ability they should have had when the game started, 6 yrs. ago....setting traps....LOL. How many Rogues do see in other games that can do that very thing, ours were gimped without it. Also who has not wanted to just take out their anger on a wall or other inanimate object...hehe....I say it is about time that SOE/Verant got up and did this.
yay

They could just release "Everquest: Expansion of Bank" and I would pay $30 for it. Don't really care about the rest although it does sound kinda cool. Now I can get some of the crap tradeskill stuff my alts are loaded down with and transfer it back to my main. DoN killed bank space. The interacting with environment stuff sounds kinda cool, but I can barely even move in DoDH from horrible lag...I seriously doubt I will even be able to view this neat little feature. And I could not be happier about a buff filter. So many times I run to the bank in PoK and get slapped with a bunch of crap that I don't want or need. I am super organized with my buffs and I like them in some order and this always annoyed me. Yay for buff filter.

I won't be buying this or any other EQ expansion most likely. I just got through PoP in December, still don't have all my spells from OoW and haven't even started on DoDH. We won't mention DoN spells (what cleric needs a damage shield again?).

Actually the DoN DS Spells are infinitely better than the "old style" DS spells. Absolutely worth every bit of time it took to get.
