sea access pre req for blue mage
# Oct 04 2005 at 11:32 AM Rating: Decent
Making it so you have to have sea access in order to have access to all these areas in the new expansion would be a really bad and horrible move by SE seeing as only a very small percentage of NA users are even remotely close to sea.....
What if.......

Jobs
# Oct 04 2005 at 10:28 AM Rating: Default
If we go back we see many ways for a bluemage to learn skills, but the most used was to get hit by the skill or to see it.

and other jobs how about this?

Magic Knight: was used once and combined a mage with a fighter who was being able to invoke magic in his weapon. Would be come in handy to attack with elementar weapons. Something that is mostly attacking but has to go back to use magic on his weapon.

Dancer: wont work that much, will be like in Ragnarok Online a support char, mostly team up with a bard to do combined spells. Only usefull effekt would be that the "dance" emote is no able to let the people realy dance ^^

Geomancer: Interessting, but is it realy that usefull? for example: you fighting fire monster in a fire area and then use the area around you? am i the only one has a bad feeling with it?

One job lastly used was a "lucky job" the "joker" i name him for now.
here i think of setzer, cait sith and so on. the once who are using luck to make their moves. would be interesting

We have magic knights. They are called dark knights and red mages. Red mages have spells called en(element) that add elemental effects to the weapons. We just dont see them alot because most RDM (at least the ones that I play with) don't melee often. DRk also are a combined mage/knight class due to their magic, but they don't really have the enchanting spells.
IMO, Dancer wouldn't be very exciting because it would seem to be the same thing as a BRD. It would be pretty silly to do all that development and designing to come up with a job that essentially does the same thing as an existing job.

Blue Mage Ability
# Oct 04 2005 at 7:29 AM Rating: Default
This is how i think BLU abilities it would work:

1)You'd only be able to absorb monsters of lvls up to IT, and skill must be used on you, alone if 1 person targeted skill, or on the whole party if targeted to entire party, but you must experience the mobs ability.

2)You won't be able to absorb NM, ENM, or BCNM abilities unless they also use the low lvl mob abilities.

3)They are going to be MP based because in ffv, i think it was, there were also magic spells such as aero.

4)You will also only be able to absorb abilities your lvl would be able to absorb.

So there's my outlook on life as a BLU.

I just want to take a minute to /laugh at the people who thought Blue Mage was never coming. On a more serious note, whichever way SE decides to go, MP-based or TP-based, Blue Mage is still going to be awesome. Plus, assuming the top pics are the AF, it's going to pass Red Mage and Dragoon as king of pimpness. The AF and Dual Wielding scimitars will look awesome.
lvl cap?

Wow lots of rumors. As far as the level cap, I wonder if there is the possibility of it being raised. I wonder because I've heard alot of rumors of a new utsusemi becoming available to ninjas. I've heard that there are or will be some mobs that use utsusemi san or something, and they are lvl 80ish. The same rumors also suggest that they may make it available to players. This could be complete speculation, or they could make it a 70+ skill, or maybe the cap could go up? As far as current uncapped events, either they would make them tougher, or they could just cap em at lvl 75.

Utsusemi: San does exist. It cannot be used by players though, because it is a skill beyond lvl 75. It is used by Ninja Mobs in Dynamis.

um...more than likely there gunna do blm spells leaned from scrolls useing Mp to actualy do them...thusly youll be a gimp rdm/blm...and food for thought blu is the only confirmed job...according to what ive read about the showing and discussion at the toyko games show theres a total of 5 new jobs in the works blu being the only confirmed one (or thought to be confirmed)
BLU Tanking? i think not....
# Oct 03 2005 at 12:10 PM Rating: Decent
I personally dont think this job would make a very good tank class at all.
1) youd have to sub ninja for shadows...but then...no voke..
2) in order to get voke...youd have to sun WAR..but then no shadows...
3) any job that has MAGE at the end...and wears cloth armor....will not make a good tank at all, unless you sub RDM...which brings you back to #1 and #2 as well as the fact that youd have to be very high BLU main in order to get any of the RDM dmg reduction spells IE: Phalanx and Stoneskin

i very much think this job is going to become another combat caster/enfeeb job.

red mages, paladins and ninjas...i dont think you have anything to worry about.
/sh (Bluemage) (Can I have it?) (Yes, please) =)
# Oct 03 2005 at 9:46 AM Rating: Decent
/em can’t wait for the new class. I love having the ability to steal / learn, the enemy’s moves and use them. And to be like the Redmage and be able to equip armor and a sword….. all I can is I can’t wait.

On a side note. What happened to the gunblade? I for one think a class that carried a 2 handed sword that had the ability to do added damage depending on what type of ammo you were carrying would be ubber sweet. Not to mention the ability to range attack =)

arabia
# Oct 03 2005 at 1:43 AM Rating: Decent
ok well this is what i think... BLU will use mp cause like what just about everyone has said.."mage = magic = mp" second, i believe they will be learned by having the ability done on you, thats how it was in just about all previous ffxi game(excluding 9 where quistis ate the monster" maybe survivng will effect if u learn or not but i doubt it. but ya never know.

ok this whole expansion to me seems like an "Arabic" theme think "Disney's alladin" lol with like shieks and what not so i feel that pirate may be in line for upcomming jobs for the fact how much emphasis they put on the boats.
NOTE: although i said "Arabic"(like arabia) it doesnt necissarily have to have deserts (~.^)

RE: arabia
# Oct 03 2005 at 5:59 AM Rating: Decent
It wasn't 9 that Quistis was in...that was FFVIII. And if Blue Mage is like any other FF games, it was an enemy "ability" and didn't use MP....then again, i'm used to Blue Mage being a "Time Mage." I forget what FF that was in.

Time mage also existed in other FF games. I forget the number because it was originally was released in japan, and then a few years later in US. I think it was FFV by the JP numbering. Go to finalfantasy.com to check it out.

Why not make this work the way Lancet worked in FFX? Use the Lancet "ability" to learn different Attacks. You could base the Blue Mage off the Red Mage for example or a Paladin. Instead of giving the Blue Mage a focus in Magic like the Red you could put their focus in Physical damage like the Paladin. I think it would fit nicely.

Just an idea....

I personally would love to see the 'Gun Blade' but that is just me... ^.~
My guess on Blue Mage skill acquisition.

I remember when I was bored at work and I thought about how a Blue Mage might learn his abilities if they made one. I figured it would be every 5 levels he unlocks the ability to learn a new skill. For example:

Lvl 1. Nothing
Lvl 5. Whirl Claw, Pollen
Lvl 10. Shell Guard, Slam Dunk, Double kick
Lvl 15. Bomb Toss, Sheep Song
etc...

A JA that lasts 3 minutes with a 15 min recast called "Watch" would be nice. If you get hit and survive the monster skill with this skill active, you learn it (provided you are at the correct lvl to learn it). I think he will be MP based. Someone said before "mage = mp." I couldn't agree more.

My idea ported the idea's of FFV and FFVI into FFXI terms. Lancet would be ok, if that's how they did it. But that's not how Blue Mage origonally worked.

I'm guessing these 'Blue Mage' screenshots are of the Blue Mage in AF gear... which... if true... then I'm leveling this job! XD XD

New Expansion pack, I take it? I suppose all these new areas are only accessable after completing some more party-intensive missions that have some sorta level cap...
cool either way, i wonder?

I like many of the idea's ive heard so far. I just can't wait until the release, to see just how close we might have come to the actual truth. Oh an I know im late but I finally purchase the ff advent children anime, it the truth, be sure to check it out if you are a ff7 fan. sephiroth and cloud's fight was insanely intense, i hope they make one on ff11 that would be cool.
abilities
# Oct 02 2005 at 6:56 PM Rating: Decent
Just a few thoughts to ponder about BLM abilities, there's a few ways it could go with SE. lol

1.) When a BST uses "Sic" with a mob that has multiple specials, 1 is selected at random and used. What you can/can't learn will probably be limited...

2.) I wonder if you could have a "Mimic" type of ability like in FFVI (Gau) where you select a type of mob you've interacted with before and you can then use attacks that the selected mob has.

3.) If you 'learn' a move from a mob, depending on the move, I'd say it could be either tp/mp based and with a cooldown. Ones such as "Goblin Rush" would be tp-based physical effect moves, while others such as "Dream Flower" or "Tremors" would be mp-based and have elemental attributes. (Think of Quistis' Blue Magic abilities in FFVIII).

What if the ability is stored like magic was "Drawn" in FF8 ? Its quite feasible dont you think ? Maybe a minute cooldown or some such. At certain lvl's you get to store more etc. ... I know its silly but hey why not ? keeps learning abilities simplish and no need for tp/mp ^^

Just a silly girl with a silly idea, wha'cha think ?

It's an interesting idea, but imo, I don't think they'll bring it back. Part of the motivation for drawning the spells was to link them up to the various stat modifiers ie HP, INT, DEX. It would really suck for a BLU to run around and draw out those spells for hours on end just so they could party. Plus, those drawn spells were in the place of MP, and they were regular BLM and WHM type spells for the most part. Most of the BLU spells/abilities are kind of like the mob WS imo.
other jobs?

Looking back on some of the other FF games that had clear cut job choices, here are some of the remaining options I came up with.
Time Mage-We already have slow, haste, paralyze,nd I doubt that we would get demi or doom. I'm not leaning towards it.
Dancer-Same thing as bard more or less.
Berserker-You already auto attack and with no special skills, doesn't seem to be a point to it.
Chemist-Seems an interesting option but with crafting and other skills and spells, I doubt this would come out.
Geomancer-Now this seems to be one of the only feasible remaining jobs. It would be interesting to have special attacks based on terrain and/or weather.
Mimic-Again interesting-but not sure how feasible this is. FFXI isn't like the one player FF where you could set up and time actions to mimic. You have 5+ other people doing things at the very same time, not in an orderly manner.
Engineer-Remember Edgar? Doing special attacks based on special weapons that you found or earned? Feasible, but most of the effects might be repetitive.
Of course, they could have dreamed up something we never even knew of.....

As far as the blue mage theories going on-
If I recall correctly, all of the Blue mages or Blue mage traits (Like Enemy Skill Materia in FF7) were MP based. What I don't understand is why everyone is saying that if this is the case, then this is just a new type of RDM. Unless BLU gets a refresh and dispel ability like BRD and RDM, then I'm still looking to xp with 1 of them. Plus, if I recall, a lot of the Enemy Skill abilities were of the unique sorts that you didn't really have available by normal means. I don't remember the names of the various attacks , but I thought that a lot of the skills were combinations of damage and status effects. I'm thinking like the rarab skill whirl claws or dust storm that does moderate damage and can cause blind, or the orc attack that does damage and causes stun. I believe some of the Blue Mage spells effectiveness were based on the Caster's MP and/or HP. If I recall, some of the spells were also dependant on the Lv of the Mob, I.E lvl 5 Flare or soemthing that would only hit if the mob was lvl 5,10,15, etc. I don't think those skills exist atm tho.

As far as TP vs MP
If they are MP based, I would think that these attacks would be kind of weaker then the ones that the mobs used because they sound kind of like some of the WS already in the game (i.e. PLM WS Leg Sweep KAT WS Retsu). Another point to consider is that many of the Mob special attacks are rumored to be based on TP as well, so I couldn't imaginine a character that could constantly spam various WS. So if the attacks are MP based, they must be toned down, or if they are just as effective, then they would likely be TP based. Perhaps its a strange combination of the two?
