Introducing Polls

We added a new feature to our forums. Premium members can now post their own polls. Here's an example. To post a poll, you need to have a premium membership and be logged into your account. Any registered member - premium or not - can vote in the poll. Votes are recorded server side and credited to your account, so you can only vote once per account. That should make it very hard for people to influence the results and will make the results more reliable. To make a poll use the following markup. [ poll] [ question] enter a question here [/ question] [ choice ] Choice A [ /choice] [ choice ] Choice B [ /choice] [ choice ] Choice C [ /choice] [ choice ] Choice D [ /choice] [/ poll] Have fun.

Are there any more details available on polls:

Are changes possible (for typos and such) and if so will making a change reset the count?

Can a category be added or dropped, and again will that reset the count?

Does voting keep the topic fresh, or will it quickly drop out of site if there are no commentary posts on the thread?

-----

/cringe Would have helped if I looked at the sample first...the discussion on THAT thread answers the first questions: Once voted on a poll cannot be amended (admins are exempt.)

But my final question still stands. ^^

Alla—

Now that I have run a poll through its life cycle, I wonder if having voting bump the thread would not be worthwhile after all. (If that is even possible within your programming parameters.)

Having to keep a poll alive by deliberately bumping it seems wasteful, while a good poll really shouldn't need an active thread accompanying it.

On the other hand, since each account can only vote once, a poll will drop away once everyone interested has voted. So voting can't keep it "in your face" inappropriately.

Once a vote is cast, the poll can't be edited. Check it carefully in the review page before hitting post. Voting does not bump a poll. If it did, the top threads would all be polls. You need to post a reply to bump a poll.

Also, I belive you need to not have the spaces inside the brackets to make it work.

It only works in the forums, not the comments.
