E3 Day 1

Our first day at E3 started with a three hour wait in line to get our press passes, which pretty much used up the majority of our day, along with much of our patience. Once we finally got into the building, we did manage to get a look at a few actual games. The big announcement of the day came from Mythic, who announced they had gained the rights to produce Warhammer Online. We were at the press conference where they made the announcement (they lured us there by offering free beer). The only question I asked is whether this was the same version of Warhammer Online that had been shown off and on at E3 for several years, and had really been showing its age (OK it kind of sucked). We were assured that version was being trashed and that Mythic was starting the development process from scratch. So basically, right now, they have a name and little else. Still, it is a well known name and Mythic certainly knows how to make a good game. The other games we got a glimpse of were Imperator and Vanguard. Imperator is Mythic's gladiators in space MMORPG. All I can say about it right now is that it looks very sharp. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to try it out yet, but I hope to play it before the end of the conference so I can give you more detail. Release is scheduled for summer, 2006. Also potentially scheduled for that time is Vanguard by Sigil Games. For those who don't know, Sigil is made up of a large number of the original Everquest design team. Their project is ambitious to the extreme, with a huge world, immersive crafting systems, and complex game play. It's really too early to tell if they will be able to pull off everything they want to put into the game. However, graphically, it looks marvelous. Remember E3 is all about fluff and looks. Very little substance gets shown here. Any report about what is shown at E3 needs to be read with the understanding that everything you see here is pre-processed to remove any deformities or blemishes. This makes it difficult to make any really substative report. That's my report. I think I'll soak my feet now. Next year I'm bringing a portable chair with me.

I love Mythic entertainment. My brother-in-law works there as on of the lead artists. He's working on Imperator. I sometimes go visit the company and he shows me his latest work. Imperator is looking VERY NICE. Just wanted to tell you guys. Take care.

I understand... I did the same thing last weekend, for Anime Central, a big anime con in Chicago. 3 and a half hours in line for badged... pre-reg was like 20 minutes at most >.< Definately pre-registering next year, too bad that's not really an option for E3.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 19 2005 at 2:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You are a guy right Haggen? Just FYI...there are women in our armed forces suffering crap you cannot even imagime as part of THIER jobs...I sure wish I could get a job standing in line for 3 hrs and remaining calm and adult. SHEESH....and...I suppose Guild Wars wasn't at E-3...Hmmm I'd heard they were in a big way...but hey, if you don't hear it from Alla...it must not be true? I am disgusted with that report.

In all your rudeness, I think you owe Haggan an apology.

Seems to me if someone in the armed forces were standing in line for bullets, 3 hours would seem very long too. The 3 hours of standing was probably irrelevant compared to all the work that needed to be done at the conference, it was added stress because it was 3 hours less time to get things done.

Or, are you saying that you promote the idea of poor efficiency? Is this what you think the military is all about?

Perhaps you might try sobering up a bit before posting your thoughts.

Plreasa explain to me how ANY of the news post relates to the war in Iraq? I'd like to know how you made that jump. Also, it's the first freaking day, wait a bit. The big news isn't all going to break at the same time. And ya know what? There's a REASON you're not the one with the job standing in line for 3 hours. Next time, try to maintain a little composure and a little less bias and snideness when you're trying to make a point, and you may be able to do so. And before you jump on MY *** about not respecting the military, my cousin, who is my best friend in my family, is there right now. My other cousin is DEAD. Think about that next time you want to use respect for the military in some whiny little post about the coverage of a VIDEO GAME CONVENTION. Peace out.

While I appreciate you getting drunk while there are Armed Forces fighting for our country, you need to get you facts straight.

The post was made by Allakhazam, not me.

Now excuse me while I go to sleep in my nice comfy bed, and not waking up with a hangover in the morning.

FYI - I grew up in miltary family, I have the utmost respect for our people over seas.

Curious if GW will be more comfortable with this new Warhammer Online venture since a highly known name among the MMO market is producing it.
