Feast of Swords

Master, you have to help us, kupo! Have you heard of the Feast of Swords? It's a Far Eastern festival that celebrates the health and growth of boys. People decorate with huge flags in the shape of fish, and dress their sons in fancy armor, kupo. There are also lots of magical, yummy goodies to eat, of course... Oops, talking about festivals always distracts me, kupo! After the slight hiccup with the Doll Festival, the M.H.M.U. decided to hold a festival that appealed to the male half of the adventuring population. We sought the advice of a distinguished samurai, and began preparing for the Feast of Swords, kupo. Our samurai adviser kindly brought in some sets of legendary armor from the Far East to lend an authentic feel to the event. That's when our problems began, kupo... Someone--or something--broke into our vaults and stole the suits of armor, kupo! Now the very same criminals have donned their ill-gotten costumes, infused them with their tainted auras, and are rampaging around the countryside! We took the bad news to the samurai and this is what he said, kupo: "I borrowed those suits of armor from the noble Genji family, a famous line of samurai. While I doubt that any blade could even raise a scratch, any damage to these rare and valuable artifacts could develop into a diplomatic nightmare. However, I believe that the evil entities corrupting the armor can be driven out through the use of specially blessed wooden katana. There is no other way to solve this dilemma." We must retrieve those suits of armor intact before the Feast of Swords is over. I don't want to be looking over my shoulder for retribution-seeking ninja assassins from the Far East, kupo! The M.H.M.U. put the festival preparations on hold to order a mountain of wooden katana. Please help us, kupo! Talk to an M.H.M.U. moogle to get your weapon, and then receive a special blessing from the nomad moogles outside town. Take the fight to those thieving scoundrels! The peace of Vana'diel--and the fate of the moogles--rests on your shoulders, kupo! [Event Participation] -Speak to the moogles in three main nations to receive Wooden Katana. -Characters will be eligible to participate in the event by talking to the moogles around the three main nations. -Players wishing to rejoin the event must speak to the moogles once more. -A level restriction will be imposed during event participation. Please be aware that any equipment that exceeds the level restriction will be unequipped automatically. -Characters who are KO'd during event participation will not lose experience points. -Characters will be unable to attack or be attacked by normal monsters while the level restriction is in effect. *This event is scheduled to begin at 17:00 on April 27 and end at 0:00 on May 9 (PDT). ------------------------------------------------------------

I got the hardwood katana, and its a weird weapon I must say. Its pretty much a show off weapon as far as I can tell. I used it, and when it attacks, you see the animation as if you had enthunder on. Its also the animation you see when you fight the SAM armor. Other then that, I cant see any other effects. I also tried using it on the SAM armors themselves, and it said I needed the level cap. So thats not it, if you know anything, please post, but for now, its pretty much a show off weapon.

Has anyone tried fighting the ones in other areas using the hardwood Katana? Most people are fighting in Sarutabaruta, Gustaberg, and Ronfaure. I'm wondering if the Hardwood might be used for the ones in Tahrongi, Jugner, Meriphataud, etc.

This is a very very fun quest!! First off, all you have to do is to get a katana from the moogle, equip it, then get the lv1 level cap, then you chase down monsters in the places where the event is taking place and if you damage them your sword absorbs magic. When you trade your sword to the moogle he gives you a prize depending on how many times you drained the armors. The Rewards range anywhere from a single costume change cake to a stack of 12 costume change cakes, more information to come! ^^

Well, the last couple events I haven't really been too interested in, but this one sounds really awesome. I can't wait to do it, and I hope u get some cool stuff. The idea of actually fighting in an event is cool, since the last events were mostly in town and not too interesting to me. I like fighting, not trying to match egg letters :) . Not only that, fighting crazy Samarai armor, even better. I can't wait to try this out tomorrow.
Wow.

J/w but couldnt you have a LS WHM run with ya or do you teleport to a diffrent area/or are they not able to heal you?
RE: Hmmm.
# Apr 27 2005 at 7:55 PM Rating: Decent
I would imagine that if you're under the cap, you can't get healed by someone who isn't.. like EFs and stuff.

Okay heres what I have discovered so far on how this works:

1) Talk to moogles in the Home Nations to Recieve the Wooden Katana.

Wooden Katana (Rare/EX)
(Great Katana) All Races
DMG:1 Delay:450
Lv.1 All Jobs

2) Talk to a moogle in one of the outside areas where the Armor has been sighted to recieve the Lvl cap. Around the home areas you get capped at lvl 1, but I would assume in the higher lvl ares the cap is higher.

3) Go out and fight the Armor (These are impossible to defeat but your Wooden Katana will absorb his magic) He will eventually run away if you can survive long enough.

4) Return to the City moogle to redeem the magic you absorbed with the Katana (Trade Wooden Katana to the moogle).

Not sure of the prizes yet but I'll post if I find anything more.

Okay, just learned that they are killable, just really almost impossible to do solo. You can take partys on this for more dmg.

RE: Hmmm.
# Apr 27 2005 at 7:42 PM Rating: Decent
Lvl cap is 1 and any spells (ie. protect) stay with you when you get the lvl cap. I had protect II and it only hit me for 0-2 damage. But I wasn't sure of the lvl cap so I used my whm... stupid me. Also any job can use the katana.
