Let the Parade Begin!

As the hubbub from the Harvest Festival died down, the inhabitants of each town called upon holiday tree craftsmen and began preparing for the "Starlight Celebration." The Starlight Celebration is an event in which the night sky is mirrored by vividly decorated trees and strings of brilliant lights. It is also a time for handing out presents to children and experiencing the joy of giving. The three regions are striving to see who can make the biggest and brightest festival of all. However, not everything is ready. The Starlight Celebration cannot begin without you there to enjoy it! Bring your companions and behold the spectacle of gloriously decorated trees illuminating the night! Find a comfortable spot beneath the glittering boughs and revel in the wonder of the Starlight Celebration.

Would you rather not have any items at all? I don't care about useful or not. Believe it or don't, but this game isn't about exp grinding to some people. It's a lot more then that, and the fact that they went to the trouble of spicing it up for us, makes me happy.

Here's to holiday cheer.

EDIT: Ahhhh my old friend spelling, we meet again.

How negative. God forbid SE tried to make FFXI fun by holding events. You should be thankful they even do stuff like this. (This is to the 2nd poster btw)

Just wondering, anyone who was playing last year know of the details of what all is going to happen? Any kinda 'quests' to go on or special items to obtain? So far, all I've seen is the new music in Jeuno, and the funky Christmas Palm Trees in Windy...

They've been doing Christmas events for a while now. As I understand it, their first one had Treants strung with Christmas lights walking through the three cities.

Last year's event had the same Treants run amok outside for adventurers to kill, with the reward being the implementation of regional outpost teleporting.

This year may be something entirely different, with a different global reward.

Oh, and a heads-up: They also have a sort of event for New Year's. NPC monsters representing the new year's zodiac sign run around in certain zones; you can trade things to them to get minor bonuses.

The first one I know of was for the year of the goat, so a ram and sheep were the representatives. This year was the year of the monkey, so the monsters were a family of Opo-Opos. 2005 is the year of the rooster, so perhaps the monsters will be a giant bird and a family of smaller ones... but I digress.

Actually, last year's event consisted on beating the crap out of said Treants. They were level capped, and took a helluva lot of people to destroy them. Was fun to watch and participate, the trees had an attack that would knock the living crap of a player, and send them flying into the next quadrant of the map. They also had a nasty habit of dissapearing to another location if people beat on them a good while, where the beaters would then have to relocate, and then rush over and continue to beat on it. HP regen, AE, all the nasty stuff. One of the most fun times ive had playing the game.

As for monsters being giant birds...year of the rooster....whats yellow, big, and birdlike? Chocobos!
Hail year of the chocobo!
