Let the Parade Begin!

As the hubbub from the Harvest Festival died down, the inhabitants of each town called upon holiday tree craftsmen and began preparing for the "Starlight Celebration." The Starlight Celebration is an event in which the night sky is mirrored by vividly decorated trees and strings of brilliant lights. It is also a time for handing out presents to children and experiencing the joy of giving. The three regions are striving to see who can make the biggest and brightest festival of all. However, not everything is ready. The Starlight Celebration cannot begin without you there to enjoy it! Bring your companions and behold the spectacle of gloriously decorated trees illuminating the night! Find a comfortable spot beneath the glittering boughs and revel in the wonder of the Starlight Celebration.

well, I have been trying to find out more about this "Dream Hat" and this is what I have found:

Dream Hat- DEF: 1, Lvl: 1, All Jobs
Dream Hat +1- DEF: 1, Enchantment: Ginger Cookie, Lvl: 1, All Jobs

I don't know what the charge on the +1 is for the cookies. as of now it seems there is no way to obtain these items yet, though I would guess they are going to be given away somehow later on in this event. I can't find any information about any other items related to this event.
a shame...

Did I miss something? What was the Harvest Festival... was that recent?

*goes back to his rock*

Edit: Getting my *** knocked around 6 or 7 grid squares at a time sounds like probably the most fun I'll ever have in this game... I hope they bring those monstrosities back.

all i had to say was on garuda i set up a hugging booth called spyros christmas hugs. i charge people 5 gil for a hug. i had hundreds of people ask for hugs and of course the price when up and up and up and soon people where giving me 1000's of gil for a hug from a taru drg in full af. now i know what your thinking you greedy little taru. well its not like that all the money i made from my hugging booth when into a massive fireworks show. i advertised my firework show for 2 hours real time in bastok. and spent about 150k on fireworks not including the donations. and at 19:00 when 200 people watching i lit up the sky it was so pretty everyone was cheer and claping. firework macros work wonders.
anyway i thought i would just let ya in on the festive fun . ^^ MERRY CHIRSTMAS VANA'DIEL

i love you pikko

I have to be blind or something...I haven't seen any decorations. ;; I've seen some people running around wearing crowns though. Is that something you can get for this event or was that a last year thing? I need to get my butt out of Kazham and see all these decorations you're all talking about. ^^
RE: Huh?

I was playing FFXI all day yesterday. I was in Windy most of the day leveling my RNG in Saruta. I never saw any Christmas decorations. A member of my LS jumps on says something like "Awww, pretty Christmas decorations" (I was in Valkrum at the time). I thought he was talking about the menu screens before you log on. Later on in Bastok heading out to do the NIN quest, I saw decorations. That was around 3 AM EST (after playing all during the day).

I was in Sandy later with a mule, and noticed the decorated trees have a horrible pop-up.
I want to see a christmas hat, that would be sweet.

The crown you've seen is likely the Opo-opo Crown, which is the reward of a quest starting in Kazham.

O.O big trees..... mass death ..... bodies everywhere...... and lots and lots of fun ^^

there was a event where the Twinkeling Treants from the year before came back for a reason i have forgotten, but there were moogles in the lowbie areas of the 3 cities (ex: East and West Ron.) that restricted your lvl (lvl cap) to 20. with the lvl cap you did not lose exp if and when killed by the Treants. i was there as a lvl 16 WAR... at the time i didn't have subjob, but i did remember how for the first day (RL day) you could not even hurt it. we fought the Treant the whole day just to find out there was a bug in it ..... lol SE fixed the problem and by the next day i came back to see about 1/10 it's life gone. lol we spent 3 days (RL days) killing both the East and West Ron Treants with 50+ other people... all i can say it that it has been the best event FFXI has ever had (since i have played the game) good luck to all and enjoy the sights!

Not necessarily. Depends on how you have the[Post] Forum Preferences: set, between the original News article and the first posted reply.

Some of us have our messages set to "Oldest First" so that the messages are in time order already.

Actually, last year's event consisted on beating the crap out of said Treants. They were level capped, and took a helluva lot of people to destroy them. Was fun to watch and participate, the trees had an attack that would knock the living crap of a player, and send them flying into the next quadrant of the map. They also had a nasty habit of dissapearing to another location if people beat on them a good while, where the beaters would then have to relocate, and then rush over and continue to beat on it. HP regen, AE, all the nasty stuff. One of the most fun times ive had playing the game.

Heck yeah! I had gotten to lvl 18 MNK last year for this event. On Leviathan, I was one of about 50 people crowded around this thing in S Gustaberg when it went down... After spending about 4 days killing it, we all breathed a sigh of relief, then headed for N gusta to start on that one... I want to do this again!!!

I agree whole-heartedly. Last year I was a lvl 12 THF when I saw a h igh lvl PLD shouting for help in SouthGustaburg. I ran to the aide to find dozens of people trying to take down the Treant. I was killed in moments and got a Raise II. I was so happy!! But now... I can actually fight thing thing lol. I can't wait to see what they do this year.
