October-December Announcements Part 2

The holiday season is here and the Final Fantasy XI development elves have been busy putting together goodies for all the good boys and girls of Vana'diel. We are planning our next major version update for Thursday, December 9. The details of the update are as follows: There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas. New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas. New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added. Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added. Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced. The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted. Tavnazian Archipelago supply quests and regional teleportation will become available. Chat filter options will be expanded. A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced. Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added. "Temporary items" found on the Balltista playing field may now be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the match(es). Also several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently. A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced. The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with the adjustments, players will be unable to put items up for auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon. Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable. The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted. The Old Sabertooth in Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items. The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased. A new thief job trait will be added. The potency of etudes will be adjusted. "Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments. The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted. The strength of "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies. The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote and /propose commands will be adjusted The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price. In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update. Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open! Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players. The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions. Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items. Articles 23, 24 and 25 of the PlayOnline User Agreement as well as Article 6 of the Finaly Fantasy XI User Agreement specificly prohibit the sale of any in-game money, characters, and/or items on internet auctions, etc. Any players found participating in RMT (Real Money Trading), whether it be buying or selling, may have their accounts terminated. Please consider the consequences before partaking in actions that may result in the destruction of all your player characters. Finally, for all existing and future Windows version players, we have developed a new benchmark program to test the playability of Finaly Fantasy XI on your personal computer. "Vana'diel Bench 3" will not only display the stunning landscape of the Lufaise Meadows, but will also offer a sneak peak into some of the most exciting cutscenes from the Chains of Promathia missions! To download this free software, visit the Final Fantasy XI homepage, or any participating game sites.

This update sounds so nice. New items and item types! Increased stack size!(Something tells me that pebbles) More stackable foods(dare I say drinks?) New thf ability(perhaps something to make thfs a bit more desirable pre-15 and even after) Combating the monopoly on items and monsters(IMO the best part of the update. I do hope they do something about guild campers. Saruta cotton sells for 80 gil at the guild but 450 each at the ah, whats with that? I hope that they make it so the guild doesnt run out or put a limit on the amount of stacks you can buy at a time.) New quests(

It would be nice too if mobs couldn't move and cast spells at the same time. (I've learned to tolerate being attacked by a mob ten yards behind me, but I still don't like it.)

I've hit a Yagudo Piper at max bow distance ~1s after it started casting Knight's Minne. It began running to me, hit me once, and then finished casting Minne and got the effect. Now if that's not right, I don't know what is. (Oh, well, maybe when Juu Duzu the Whirlwind uses Mijin Gakure on you and then respawns at the original location where it was hit (i.e. with weapon/spell/JA) as an unclaimed mob until you hit it again.)

Such a nice ring to my ears and to the ears of others on Kujata. A gil seller keeps on going out there and killing that tiger, keeping them from getting RNG but lately from what I've heard, she's been asking if they're there for quest or not before killing...But I'm sure this will put her out of business with this tiger.

Gil Buyers
# Nov 30 2004 at 6:08 PM Rating: Default
In regards to Gil buying....I must admit that I am guilty of doing so myself, but I did not know that it was illegal. The site that you purchase the gil from seems so professional and they rovide their services to so many different Online games, you would assume that it was legal. I for one enjoy playing the game for certain aspects
of it such as PT'ing and fighting NM's. I have no interest in crafting, fishing or any other such job that the game provides for profit building ...therefor I was purchasing gil to enhance my gaming experience, and it has.

As an adult player I'm limited to the time I can play because of my RL responsibilities and so, found Gil buying every so often a way to refresh and enhance my Final Fantasy experience. I have always been the cheating type when playing video games in the past and realize that that may bother many people, but I am an adult and will do as I like when it comes to how I chose to spend my money for MY gaming! I was never aware of the Gil sellers and of how the Gil selling company was getting the Gil. I always assumed that the company had some sort of understanding with Square Soft.

I now understand more about this Gil selling and buying process and how it may negatively effect other aspects of the the Game as a whole. I hope others can understand a Gil buyers (such as myself) side of picture as well.

Thanks for listening! m(__ __)m ^^

I sure as hell hope gil selling/buying goes down the drain. If you want to play "fast" OL games, play Everquest! I am currently a lvl 28whm aspiring to be a RNG, but because of the ring monopoly I have considered quitting the game altogether.
Has anyone noticed the fall in the number of players over the last few months? Gil farming/selling has resulted in a boycott called "lets play something else".

Well, I was just wondering about how this whole shin-ding is going to go down. Terminating the gil-sellers will be easy enough, they're easy to pick out. But gil-buyers like yourself, are breaking the EULA and should be terminated. Although that would be hard to do I imagine, unless you advertise in-game you've bought gil before.

I checked into IGE's little site thinger and they say "The Company agrees not to disclose to anyone the terms, conditions, subject matter, or identity of the parties involved in this transaction to any other party." So, I wonder if SE can actually do anything against people like you.

I would hope that you, and others who buy gil, finally realize that by helping in ruining the game's fun factor for many for so long, has its consequences. Even if you, or the other guy who buys gil, or the little kid who has his mom buy gil, don't get your accounts terminated. Hopefully what SE said would be enough to make you stop the buying.

Such harsh words like "your accout should be terminated" are really not needed!

Maybe you didn't hear me when I said that I didn't know how the gil was being obtained by the
IGE and didn't know about gil sellers within the game....and therefor didn't realize how my buying gil was really effecting others in the game. Everyone has fun in different ways...so if your fun factor has been effected, I apoligize to all players who this has effected negatively...but please don't be ignorant!

In my first post I explained why I bought the gil and that I had no clue about the process of how it was being sold to IGE...now that I know, I don't think I'll be doing anymore of that! lol

Sorry to all
RE: Gil Buyers

It's that kind of attitude that ruins OL games. "I don't care about cheating; all I care about is ME!" You sound like a childish kid not an adult.
RE: Gil Buyers
# Dec 01 2004 at 4:54 PM Rating: Default
And in regards to your comments, I take care of my business and not that of the other 2+ million of the FinalFantasy world. I can do as I like with my money and I did....But as I explained in Previous posts, I didn't know what I was doing to the rest of the players and have made the decision
not to continue to purchase Gil.

Instead of rushing to attack others for what they have written, maybe you should have taken the time to actually read what has been said! Maybe I'm just the first to actually admit to it, but that doesn't give you the right to treat me as if I'm the only one who did it...

I hope my responce wasn't too Adult for you! :p

Anonymous, quick question... Did you, by any chance, agree to the Terms when you started playing? Since you ARE playing, lets assume you did. In which case "I didn't know" isn't going to cut it. That's like saying "I'm sorry officer, I didn't know that it wasn't ok to beat that guy with a baseball bat.. no one told me."

I'm just glad to see that they're adjusting the difficulty of Promathia missions. Assuming, of course, that they're talking about making Promyvion a little less difficult. ...which I hope they are. :x After several failed tries on each, I've more or less given up on getting Tavnazia access for a while. Hopefully the missions won't be so mind-numbingly hard now. :o

I think all NM drops & Elemental staves (including +1 versions) should be able to be gotten through BCNMs, Garrisons, Conquest Force, Balista, etc. Some sort of special event, thats not every-day...

I sure hope not, it'd make coffer camping fo AF in Castle Oztroja (where those wonderful Astral Rings are found) even harder than it already is, seeing as competition from THF is already bad enough as is

I'm guessing not.

I expect something like an "Attack Up" trait or something else useful in battle so all of a Thief's best abilities can't be subbed at Level 60 and beyond.

RE: OMG YAYA!!

What the hell is wrong with Gilfarmers? Just because ones method of obtaining gil is camping the same NM over and over or clearing an area of mobs for the drops, (like cockatrice meat) doesn't mean that just about every single one of us has never done it before. mining, logging, fishing, these are all some FORMS of gilfarming also, even though it's not blatantly farming MONSTERS for gil.

I think what you meant was the GILSELLERS. These are the people who provide GIL to IGE and other companies. HOWEVER, There are several thousand legitamate gilFARMERS, including myself.

Semantics, the context of the post you were replyng to, and many others made that refer to sellers as farmers, clearly did not mean the average joe player trying to make money. Stop being so picky, please! :)

Gil Selling v. Gil Farming

referring to a couple above posts, i was in that situation that i have camped the NMs for the items, and i still am for some items that i need for my ninja and such. But gil farming is totally different from gil selling, yes i camped the VE and am 4/7 on it, i kept my first hairpin and i have sold the others, i spent all that gil on items i need badly, leaping boots as well, of course, there are others like me who are high level and in need of gil, other people farm them to actually sell to IGE, and jack up prices, NOW THAT IS ILLEGAL. of course like me who are pissed off about the gil sellers, now can rest easy w/ the fact that they're gonna be nerfed, gil farming is legal, the items are in the AH for a reason, because there are many many people who don't want to bother camping the NMs but have enough to actually afford the item, now NM camping will be a lot more fun, on top of that, the prices will lower, i actually predict the Hairpin going down to 300k- within one week after the update. This makes it easier for people who don't want to bother camping, they can afford it easier.

all in all GO S-E, you've made another customer happy, and many others too, can't wait to see those gil sellers gone forever. IGE must go down.

I agree! (Even though im not a Smn yet, but i am very soon) They should have 2 avatars for every element (not including the elementals themselfs) Like Hades for Dark, Pheonix for Fire and so on. They should also add Bahamut, being non-elemental as usual.

It seems possible that some day you'll get Diabolos as a summon.

But I agree - it would be nice to get a second set of Avatars. Specifically, they shouldn't be Level 1 so dedicated summoners have identifiably different abilities than those that sub Summoner. Sure, they can't use all of the abilities of a dedicated Summoner, but there are still some useful abilities that can be subbed and that hurts Summoner, even if you don't see them used too often.

Oh, and don't forget how COOL it would be. :)

Yeah Right!
