October-December Announcements Part 2

The holiday season is here and the Final Fantasy XI development elves have been busy putting together goodies for all the good boys and girls of Vana'diel. We are planning our next major version update for Thursday, December 9. The details of the update are as follows: There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas. New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas. New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added. Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added. Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced. The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted. Tavnazian Archipelago supply quests and regional teleportation will become available. Chat filter options will be expanded. A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced. Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added. "Temporary items" found on the Balltista playing field may now be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the match(es). Also several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently. A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced. The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with the adjustments, players will be unable to put items up for auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon. Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable. The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted. The Old Sabertooth in Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items. The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased. A new thief job trait will be added. The potency of etudes will be adjusted. "Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments. The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted. The strength of "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies. The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote and /propose commands will be adjusted The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price. In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update. Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open! Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players. The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions. Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items. Articles 23, 24 and 25 of the PlayOnline User Agreement as well as Article 6 of the Finaly Fantasy XI User Agreement specificly prohibit the sale of any in-game money, characters, and/or items on internet auctions, etc. Any players found participating in RMT (Real Money Trading), whether it be buying or selling, may have their accounts terminated. Please consider the consequences before partaking in actions that may result in the destruction of all your player characters. Finally, for all existing and future Windows version players, we have developed a new benchmark program to test the playability of Finaly Fantasy XI on your personal computer. "Vana'diel Bench 3" will not only display the stunning landscape of the Lufaise Meadows, but will also offer a sneak peak into some of the most exciting cutscenes from the Chains of Promathia missions! To download this free software, visit the Final Fantasy XI homepage, or any participating game sites.

Comments on eye-catching statements:

Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced.
Nice!

Chat filter options will be expanded.
PLEASE make this a filter for those f&%king random messages.

A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced.
Nice!

The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99.
Hmm. *fingers crossed*

Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable.
Another finger-crosser.

The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted.
Again, with the fingers crossed.

The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased.
Cool for those who can do it...

A new thief job trait will be added.
*ponders*

The potency of etudes will be adjusted.
Cool.

The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price.
Uh oh. This is VERY scary. This could potentially mean some items are going to cost an arm and freakin' leg to put up on auction. NOT cool.

This doesn't mean it's a direct percentage or anything - listing fees could be divided into classes like they do on eBay. For example, items under 1000 gil have a listing fee of only 10 gil, while items over 1M gil would have a much higher listing fee.

This will help the Jeuno AH, I think - right now there is a pretty strong disincentive to sell cheaper, basic items like crystals there because the listing fees for a stack of items can be as much as the item itself.

And I also agree that this will help disincentivize price gouging on higher priced items.

Actually this is EXTREMELY cool. Inflation is raping Vana'diel and in the long run this is going to take massive amounts of gil out of the economy and discourage price gouging.

In terms of the item listing fee, they are probably intorducing this as a price control measure. I can see it as helping to lower the price of items, as people will be more lothe to jack up the price to sky-high rates since that will cut their profit margin thinner. It's going to suck for the first few days, but I think it will help even out the extravigant prices I hear people complaining about on certain items.

Unless it's on a non-linear scalar though, it won't function to do what you predict it will.

Of course, we don't know that it's not - but I kind of doubt it will be.. there are better ways to control AH prices.

Anyway, I'm as glad as everyone else that SE is taking steps to try and fix their game.. shows they do care after all.
Solution
# Nov 30 2004 at 4:18 PM Rating: Decent
one solution they could add to NM camping would be to get rid of permanent spawn points and make them random. since bst/rng get widescan at level 1, almost everyone would have a fair advantage in getting the spawn. the only problem lies with thieves and Flee.

This totally made my day!

I'm so happy that SE is trying to fix many of the complaints that people have been moaning about for the past few months.

Hopefully we'll have fewer "Reasons why FFXI is broken" or "I'm going to EQII/WoW/<Insert another MMORPG>" threads.

Hopefully I can finally do the Promyvion quests.

Can't wait for this update!

.... the first time i saw these guys in diffrent sites selling gill was kinda fishy, first i thought if it was "leaga"... turns out it's not, though i never liked them cause you could pay like $10 for 10,000 gil... that made it unfair for other players that don't like the idea or like the game... well w/e now atleast they r infocing it more...

Hey now!

I'm a Red Mage. BLM has two great sets of JSE, we have zero. BLM has lots of exclusive spells past 41, we have zero.

I can understand not giving us job-defining JSE to keep us flexible, but it would be nice to have a reason to exist beyond Refreshing people.

My favorite chance, except the possible Gil Seller nerf, is:
The Difficulyt of Promathia missions will be adjusted

Also, does it say new ones are being added? Meaning, :O The possibility of Al'Taieu access FINALLY has....been more or less shot down
But still, SE will surprise us.......they are good at that ;)

Oh yea.and...wtf is up with that stuid Joke at the top....

Thank you SquareEnix!!!! If it means what I think it means, I'll finally be able to turn off that other parties spam who has a BRD (i hate trying to read the log, then seeing 6 people get a song effect) next to me, and still see that the Robber Crab just used a buff on itself.

Sure hope this refers, at least in part, to Promyvion... I've failed it a few times now, simply because that BCNM is insanely difficult :p

I'm really looking forward to this update, because it shows Square is indeed listening to the issues we've been presenting to them. So once again, thanks Square.

EDIT: Minor changes to grammar, spelling, etc

Yes and no... If i enabled the special effects on others chat filter, it would indeed turn off all the spam from parties nearby... but it would also turn off a mob buffing itself... which isn't a big deal for most jobs, but as a Red Mage, it's crucial I see when a mob has buffed so I can Dispel it immediately
Better Economy?

I think this announcment just made my week! Hope we're not all dissapointed with the solution. I think Rare/Ex is the way to go personally. Leaping Boots are 550K atm on Fairy and Snipers are 800K. I think the Emp. Pin is 650K now too. I camped my pin but i have to say there are no fewer than 30 people camping Lizzy at any one time. That's just wrong for all of us who could use the boots. Yeah...Rare/Ex is the way to go imo. NEW THF JA!! YEAH!!! /em hopes it's VERY cool and higher than lvl 50. Anyway, hope this balances out the economy - it blows atm.

This does nothing for me. They're just stating what they've stated a million times...It's against the rules...Don't do it. We MIGHT ban your account.

I haven't seen alot of gil-sellers accounts getting banned so far. Why are the suddenly going to start now?

I'm reserving judgement here, I'll believe it when I see it.

Well, as a 54 ranger I am both happy and sad to see the notorious monster part of the update. Don't get me wrong, I hate bots, and I hate gilfarmers, but still, I LOVE hunting notorious monsters, honestly sometimes i do it more for the hunt than for the item. The rush I get when I see that name appear on widescan and the hopes and fears of it being claimed before I get there are all a large part of why I play this game. I really hope they do not tweak this part of the game entirely too much. All the updates sound great, I'm hoping that they will make Scorp arrows quiverable, please SE PLEASE make them quiverable!

According to one GM I talked to about this issue (can't remember his name, but if whoever talked to Sethala on Quetzalcoatl about this issue reads this, thank you very much), SE's been trying to combat IGE (the main gilselling company) for some time, but IGE's been able to stall for a long time mainly due to the different laws in China (which is where IGE is based).

Not sure if what he said was true or if he was just "covering up", but it sounds very believable, especially when you get lawyers from different countries using their own laws involved.

Does this mean Leaping Boots and Emp pin will be easier, and therefore, cheaper to get? This will take away from the excitement of hunting NMs, but for those who want to use the boots, and not spend upwards of 300k, I suppose this will be a nice change. Also, does this mean NMs will spawn more often? That would really make it more fun to hunt them, because people wouldn't be camping them because they're so rare. It's kinda sad, though, because it means all those people that farmed up thousands or millions of gil for the things they need will now have spent it in vain if the items can be bought for, say 20k instead of 300k.

Oh well, still very exciting news!

#1 i hope SE does do something about all these issues, but i doubt if they do, it will make a diff. They could easilly have a GM inviest 20$ in gil and when ban who ever sends them the gil! but do they do this no? you cant just say who ever trades larges ammounts of gil gets banned because I myself loan friends large amounts of gil.

Bards dont need JA, they are to good as it is, i mean all the songs they get make partys 10x better. 20x if you have rangers, brds dont have problems getting pts thats for sure, if any job is gimp its drk or drg
RE: haha

Actually GMs *can't* purchase gil, at least not from IGE. Not sure about the other ones, IGE is the only one I ever bothered browsing around.
AH charges
# Nov 30 2004 at 1:56 PM Rating: Decent
To be honest i think the change in AH charges should help the economy stableize a bit. basic economics tell you that if the gil begins to exit the economy at a faster rate, the infaltion of the gil will decrease. secondly i also see this as a way to cap the overall selling prices at the AH by player self regulateing losses incured by charges, although i will say this could backfire as players may charge more to compensate for losses on AH Charges.Lower lvl player's should also benifit from this as most items in AH are lower priced than thier NPC sold counterpart's
Teh Awesome! XD

THANK YOUUUUU!!!!!!!! **huggles Squeenix** It's about darn time!!!!!!

Is it just me or did it seem to anyone else that the inaction against gil sellers almost seemed like they were promoting the purchasing of gil online? I'm so glad they're finally doing something about stopping them, because it was getting out of hand. I know too many people who have quit the game and too many more who have seriously considered it or were planning to quit due to the gil seller & botting problems. Does this mean that GMs will actually be able to do something when you call them? O.O

Looks like I'll need to level my DRG & THF too... =^.^= /dance /cheer /joy

About Time
# Nov 30 2004 at 1:38 PM Rating: Decent
Its about time they start doing somthing about these Gil Farmers. One simple and fun way to stop this is to make iteams available by quest. Not only would this add more quest to the game but make the iteam free. :)

On a side note can't square see people trading and sending millions of gil to lots of random people. ummm duuu gil seller.
