October-December Announcements Part 2

The holiday season is here and the Final Fantasy XI development elves have been busy putting together goodies for all the good boys and girls of Vana'diel. We are planning our next major version update for Thursday, December 9. The details of the update are as follows: There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas. New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas. New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added. Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added. Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced. The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted. Tavnazian Archipelago supply quests and regional teleportation will become available. Chat filter options will be expanded. A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced. Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added. "Temporary items" found on the Balltista playing field may now be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the match(es). Also several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently. A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced. The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with the adjustments, players will be unable to put items up for auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon. Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable. The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted. The Old Sabertooth in Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items. The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased. A new thief job trait will be added. The potency of etudes will be adjusted. "Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments. The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted. The strength of "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies. The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote and /propose commands will be adjusted The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price. In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update. Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open! Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players. The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions. Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items. Articles 23, 24 and 25 of the PlayOnline User Agreement as well as Article 6 of the Finaly Fantasy XI User Agreement specificly prohibit the sale of any in-game money, characters, and/or items on internet auctions, etc. Any players found participating in RMT (Real Money Trading), whether it be buying or selling, may have their accounts terminated. Please consider the consequences before partaking in actions that may result in the destruction of all your player characters. Finally, for all existing and future Windows version players, we have developed a new benchmark program to test the playability of Finaly Fantasy XI on your personal computer. "Vana'diel Bench 3" will not only display the stunning landscape of the Lufaise Meadows, but will also offer a sneak peak into some of the most exciting cutscenes from the Chains of Promathia missions! To download this free software, visit the Final Fantasy XI homepage, or any participating game sites.

Finally my monthly payment hard at work! If SE can follow through on some of their promises on Gilsellers/buyers we may have a good game on our hands again!

And for the chap who was saying he routinely snds 30k-90k to his BCNM friends, I wouldn't be worried, SE is looking for the 500k-5million sends that are coming from the same people ^^ I'm not rich either, but seriously 30-90k is chump change compared to what they are selling.

Good luck SE. In the next one, add 'ability to gain exp from certain quests will be added' I'd like to see this game get a little away from only getting exp from a mob and have more quests like Eco-Warrior but solo and job specific (maybe have job guilds that send you on job related quests for exp and more job specific equipement)... just my 2 cents

:-) I knew what he was refering to, was making a point. I know a couple of high lvls that routinely do the high lvl bcnms that have items that sell fairly high. Pld friend in my l/s does bcnm 60's for his adam armor and he says there's a guy who routinely makes over 1mil gil every week or so doing them. He did 6 bcnm's in one day and he received 800k from them. So if one guy's doing that many high lvls does that necessarily make him a gil seller? There are legitimate ways of making good gil and need of sending large sums of money out.

But yeah if yer sending 1mil gil to 1000 accounts in one day, odds are yer a gil seller. :-) Peace!

I am so glad about the price drops in the AH for all the rare items! I was just about to quit FF and I sold everything I had about a week ago. I currently have 1.8mil which will be worth alot more (after the update). I am lucky that this happened after I sold all of my stuff. Thanks SE

It'd be hilarious if IGE ended up suing SE for lost revenue, etc. I mean, if they're able to be so overt about their violation of TOS now, why wouldn't they up the ante later? oh well i'm sure it won't happen. But here's hoping they have a reason to, at least. ^^

whatever SE's planning to combat gil sellers I hope it works, for the good of this game.

I've had so many friends quit already because of the frustrating gil farming and sky high prices of items.

Aww, so you mean people won't have any motivation to ***** other people who are trying to do the Ranger flag quest? Where's the fun in that? I thought the challenge of that quest was enduring the frustration of watching some gilseller kill Old Sabertooth for the 5th time right in front of you while responding to all of your tells with something along the lines of 'I DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH PLEASE.'

I don't think you should make things like the Leaping boots Rare/ex. This would totally ruin my bid to try to get some leathercarfter to make me the winged botts(ETC.). I like the idea of other ways to get the same items....Perhaps you should add an easy/medium quest that gives you the boots/item as a reward. Quest items rarely cost that much at the AH since they get about as common as dirt. This is especially true if the item is very usefull....

This is what SE will probably do. Items such as leaping boots, hairpin, archers will probably be available thru quests and NM drops. If players are going out and doing the quests then there will not be so much of a demand for those items and prices SHOULD drop significantly depending on the difficulty of the quest. If you take for instance the Teleport-Vhazl quest, it takes high levels to fight shadows to get the key needed for the scroll and that particular tele is selling for 90-100k on Garuda. Warp II can be done by anyone with silent oils and prism powder and that sells for 30k ish atm. So having those items...leaping boots, hairpin, etc being in the 30-100k range is very reasonable. This should put an end to gilsellers because there won't be so much of a demand for those items as many players will be going out to do the quests themselves. As for making items rare/ex i don't really believe that is the way to go.

I just hope that the update for the taxes on the AH does not ***** people who make their money from crafting. We allready have a slim profit margin as it is (unless we get an HQ)and if the taxes increase we will be back to farming like everyone else and crafting would almost be useless.

even amounts

I always that it would be easy to track gilsellers/buyers by looking at even amounts that are repeatedly delivered from a certain account.

For example, if there is a pattern of an account delivering 50k even, 100k even, 1000k even to different random accounts, it's pretty safe to say that person is probably a gilseller.

Then if they took that name of the gilseller, they can see who these even amounts have been delivered to, and check them for similar patterns. Maybe they are repeat buyers and will have numerous large, even amounts sent to them from different people, or perhaps even from the same gilseller suspect.

Seems to be that by doing some database parsing, they could get a pretty nice list of who's involved in the gil trade.

The questions is...Are there any players out there that legitimately deliver the same even amounts of gil for any other reason?

I do realize SE would have thousands of transactions per day, maybe more, to sort through to look for these kind of patterns. But, that's what they make computers for. A simple program for database extraction and sorting could actually do this in minutes.

Does this theory make any sense to anyone? (looking for recurring even patterns).

Actually yes. I routinely do bcnm 20's with linkshell members and a few others, and a few 40's as well. I rountinely send 30k to the 2 other players that went on the quest with me. I've also sent up to 100k to each person involved, if a thunder pact or body drops as well. I've done over 40 bcnm 20's, selling the mannequin head for 90k, thunder pact going for 70-90k in jeuno and mannequin body selling at 150k (two drops on body, one sold, other given to my wife).

Bcnm's are an easy way to make gil in this game. I don't sell my gil, nor have I bought any. BCNM's are something anyone can try, and aren't "Heavily camped" like the NM's.

On my server Leaping Boots - 300K+, archer's rings 700k, sniper's rings (made from archer's) 900k, ochiudo's kote 800k, emporer's hairping 400k+, mary's horn 200k+, peacock charm 10mil. Just to name a few.

I support Square if they are going to make the drops easier (in hopes of decreasing the price) or making similar items available from quests and such. The only NM I've camped were the two rams in La theine and Konschtat for the purple belt quest so that I can do the brown belt quest for a friend. The brown belt goes for almost 500k. Now an item that you have to quest for and be around 50 with a friend or three to camp the NM's is worth that kind of gil.

Camping a lvl 10'ish mob for a 300k + item is not.

Just my opinion and two cents popped into the debate.

I can think of a MUCH simpler solution that wouldn't require digging threw data. Not sure on the legal issues but why not just have GMs or anyone that works for SE buy gil themselves then delete the accounts of the players that deliver it to them? Seems to me that eventually word would get out and the gil sellers would never know if it was a real player or an SE employe. Probly wouldn't stop everyone but it would slow them down.
RE: even amounts
# Dec 01 2004 at 12:26 PM Rating: Good
I think this is an excellent idea. I can't see how it can be called illegal either, since SE owns the servers the gil sellers are exploiting. To paraphrase Chief Wiggum, once they're on your server, anything you do to 'em is good and legal.

But, as stated earlier, I doubt SE will go after them hardcore, as gil sellers are the lampreys to SE's whale.

Well, I've spent a lot of time pondering this and I read through ALL the posts.

What would happen if items such as Emperor's Hairpin and Leeping Boots became R/E? Would it really be that bad? What if they were just Ex or just Rare?

Rare boots Ok, but it's not like you can dual the item- so it's kinda useless to stamp that on them. Ex leaping boots- whole new issue; people that don't have high leather craft won't be able the churn out winged boots +1 or w/e, but on that same thought winged boots are crap - just +1 more defense :) Some items should be left neutral regardless, or made into quest items. Just look at it - lvl 60 + wearing lvl 7 boots roflmao; ( feel bad for those who camped it 20+ times though ).

i personally think the AH fee being determined by the selling price makes things more competitive and more affordable for all players. the economy is pretty good in game, but has been slightly tipping and kinda failing imo. this also makes gil sellers have to spend more time camping or farming to obtain the same amount of money, kind of a deterent (is that even a word? lol) for them. anyways, great idea by the ppl who run the economy... you guys could show alan greenspan a thing or two ^_~

on a side note... whoo hoo for SL upgrade lol. go drg ^^

They need to make this not just on the last sale price, but on the average of the last 10 sales, or if theres less than 10 sales, on the average of those sales..... otherwise, when someone accidently bids on an item the wrong amount (ie... they pay 1million for a 1000gil item) the next person selling is going to have a huge tax to pay to sell it...)

and what happens to the items that have never sold before? no tax??

all i can see this doing is pushing the prices up EVEN further in jeuno.... 5k tax on stack of food?? add 4k to that price....

Umm, I think it means your price as "current auction price". Meaning your tax will be counted from the amount you place the product on sale, not the pricehistory.
Very Easy
# Dec 01 2004 at 6:15 AM Rating: Decent
Very easy to catch a gil seller if you ask me. Most likely the website you need to go to, to buy the gil is registered under the same person that the Final Fantasy XI account is. Go to the purchase sites, research the name of the owner. Check the PlayOnline archives for an account registered under that same name. BAM! Cancel Account.

This update sounds exciting, but I'm sure there are catches like the new items are drops off lvl 90 NMs in Promathia areas you have to do half hte missions to get to, which means they'll sell high for people who don't have CoP or those missions done. And even if they make 'similar items' comparable to Kraken Club or Eurytos Bow, you'll probably need lvl 100 in some craft or another to make them. And the AH taxes aren't going to stop people from selling things in bazaars or shouting items for sale.

Just considering the history of the game, I don't think any great new items will be cheap or as easily accessible as they make it sound. You won't be getting those Damascene Clothes off River Crabs in West Ronfaure. Another poster commnted about people with jobs and families being able to get items with limited gametime. This is an important issue. You can camp an NM for 4, 6, 8 hours, and then if you actually get claim, theres still a good chance you're not getting the drop. If you're not a THF with TH2, you're more than likley not getting anything. How can people with a limited schedule for the game ever have anything this way? I think the only solution is shorter NM spawn times, all EX drops, and 100% guaranteed drops. Why shouldn't someone with 10 gaming hours a week have the same chance for items some high school kid with 100 hours a week has?

As for gilsellers, sure it's great they say they're going to take action, but how do they catch them? There's some obvious gilsellers out there who have been doing this for months and reported a million times and they're still there. On Slyph theres 2 guys who sell 99% of all Morion Tathlums. You have to pay their price because no one else can get to the NM. Same this with that Dumyjew guy that camps Monster Signa 24 hours a day. Vcki is on the Eastern Shadow so no one else can ever get a chance to fight it. I'll believe they're taking action when I see it.

This is a Prayer to Altana, since SE has most likely closed the new items - section in developement, or more likely just a whim wish;

Please add a decent Bow to Rangers. It is frustrating to see that between War Bow+1 and Shigeto/Master Caster there is only Sarnga with crapload of delay and Euryto's Bow to choose from. Actually placing Ebow as rare/ex would do wonders too, seeing that the Eastern Shadow is heavily camped for gilmaking purposes only. Considering that this is the only real upgrade to Bows 50+ before 71 it would make a huge impact on Ranger job actually adding Bow as a good main weaponry throughout game. I'm a Bowranger, the reason I play RNG is bows. Othinus' Bow is rare/ex, while it remains the best Xbow throughout game, add something similar to Bow category as well and I will be eternally grateful ^^;

Can't wait to see the new outfits, last update gave us some real classy ones like seer's, noct, shade and kampf to name a few. More please.

Sidenote; Thanks for the Spirit Link upgrade, hate to wait for the counter to recast right away again because of poisonga, diaga etc. that affects the wyvern as well. Since we can't heal our wyverns and can't summon them again right away seeing it's our 2h ability, this status effect disablement with SL is really a welcomed improvement. Thank you SE for making the game a bit better again ;)

Indeed undercutting the AH fee where its a certain amount of the sold item would be a great help for getting those Items and if people farm items such as a kraken club and its AH fee is like 3mil they might consider not farming it anymore giving people a chance to farm it themselves.

the NM idea i think is even better introducing similar items or making them obtainable in quests, crafting, ect would be excellent and seriuosly hurt gilsellers. and making an item even just rare can put a serious thorn in a gilsellers side.

First of all, hopefully juices will be stackable, I know even for the short time I've used my mages how annoying it was that even with a totally empty inventory of even armor the amount of juices you could carry would be very very limiting, even if they just come in "12-packs" it'd be a nice change for our mage friends.

And a big, big congrats to SE on the update in general, this should add to those who feel that CoP wasn't worth the time, which I'll admit I was one of those even though I bought it. This will add so many more options to a possibly endless world! Also with recognizing the gilsellers and such, many may have not believed SE cared, but this shows they do and at least are attempting to combat the situation if not resolve it totally. The only thing I can guess is that some items may be marked Rare, may be even become synthesizable/questable/npc or conquest buyable, or perhaps something even more creative will be introduced?

But either way, good job to SE to give us a bunch of positives to look forward to at the end of the year. May the honest and true players out there be rewarded this holiday season. ^^

There will be several new quests and events added to the Promathia areas.
not that excited about this, have yet to really find much point to the new areas as of yet... except pure farming purposes

New quests will also be added in Non-Promathia areas.
^_^ i like quests. i really like quests that dont involve killing dangerous mobs T_T 58BRD/29WHM has trouble killing ANYTHING

New monsters (including notorious monsters) will be added.
fun ^^ i just hope these new mobs make more areas viable for leveling parties

Over 15 new "orb battles" will be added.
new BCNMs!! yay!! i still havent been able to get a party together for the last batch of BCNMs that were added!!!

Several new weapons, types of equipment, and items will be introduced.
please reference in the item look-up: Kosshin, Magical Mitts, Chaos Fife, Death Harp (im sure there's more, but im a bard... dont care about Great Katanas ^^;;

The difficulty of selected Promathia missions will be adjusted.
have yet to try any of the non-cutscene missions X-o

Tavnazian Archipelago supply quests and regional teleportation will become available.
have yet to get here at all, so doesnt affect me yet

Chat filter options will be expanded.
YES!!! im hoping for some way to: Ignore all player characters not in your party or alliance, Ignore the actions of monsters not engaged in combat with a party or alliance member

A new Gobbiebag quest will be introduced.
ummm still havent done GB3 >_< <Bard> = <No money!>

Shortcuts into Promyvion - Vahzl for those who have partially or fully completed the Promathia mission will be added.
[i]umm.. again, i dont care XD

"Temporary items" found on the Balltista playing field may now be stored in one's inventory for the duration of the match(es). Also several previous "special" rules will be implemented permanently.
never played ballista

A new point system for rating Ballista participants on their performance will be introduced.
see above.

The stack number for several select items will be increased from 12 to 99. In accordance with the adjustments, players will be unable to put items up for auction for a short period of time. Details on this temporary maintenance will be provided soon.
99 mithkabobs anyone? >_> probably wind up being the rediculous conquest arrows or something along those lines XD

Several previously unstackable foods will now be stackable.
as much as i would like juice to stack, i'm leaning towards several of the unstackable HQ versions of normally stackable foods becoming stackable

The duration and effect of certain foods will be adjusted.
maybe one of my pet peeves will get fixed... and teas will count as drinks instead of food >< also would appreciate it if there was some way to make Tuna Sushi more available on my server T_T

The Old Sabertooth in Sauromugue Champaign will no longer drop any items.
it drops items right now?! O_o

The variety of items that can be dug up using the "Scavenge" ability will be increased.
yay!! more "old" "rotten" crap >_>

A new thief job trait will be added.
my guess: Gilfinder II, lvl 70

The potency of etudes will be adjusted.
raising stat boost, <Yes, please.>... lowering stat boost, <No thanks.>

"Spirit Link" will now heal a wyvern's status ailments.
havent even unlocked dragoon yet ^^;; just doesnt interest me that much

The accuracy of "Blood Pact" attacks during magic bursts will be adjusted.
i use smn to <death> <warp>... what do you use? ^^

The strength of "Blood Pact" attacks will not increase as much when fighting weaker enemies.
see above response

The order of messages that appear when using the /nominate, /vote and /propose commands will be adjusted
i have never seen anyone use these before

The fee collected when placing items on auction will be determined by the current auction price, not the store/guild selling price.
O_O wow... this could be a serious change in the system wide economy... i mean... are you really going to want to pay 10k to put ANY item up for sale?

In addition to the changes mentioned above, many other adjustments are being made. A complete list of all changes will be available on the day of the update.
Also, we are planning several new events for the end of the year, so keep your eyes open!
my guess is some sort of new year's event... didnt those wands with "damage varies with moon phase" have something to do with the chinese calendar? ^^;; dont yell at me if im wrong, just what i heard ><

Another issue being addressed during this version update is the monopoly over certain monsters and items by a number of players.
The development team is currently working on several methods to combat these types of actions.
Some methods include the introduction of similar items, and new ways of obtaining items.
HALLELEUAH!!!!! there really does seem to be a big push to end the scourge that is Gilsellers in the game, and i am all for it ^_^ anything that will make the game more fun for those who are playing it to have fun (remember, even tho we can get married here, it is still just a game ^^;;) plus, i've always said the equips with the best stats/abilities for any job should be ra/ex anyway... :P

What do you guys think on this one?
Would it be a good idea to make all Notorious Monster Drops EX or Rare/EX? that way the items cannot be sold and there would only be a purpose to camp the NM once, and yes i know that would require changing alot of items and stuff but what does everyone else think?

This idea is good, yet flawed at the same time.

Good because it shuts down gil sellers right then and there, seeing as they can't sell them. But that leads to why it's bad, at the same time.

If they were Rare/EX, they couldn't be sold... and some people use NM drops as a legitimate money making method.

Granted, there's other ways to make gil, but if all of a sudden, everyone starts farming the same drops in other areas, it becomes hard to make gil to get the items we need... which leads us right back to where we are at right now.

I personally can hardly wait to see how Square handles this issue, as it's rather dicy and difficult.

Bravo, Linkshell: Valor on Midgradsormr love to camp Lizzy, Emperor and other big NM's its hard enough to make ends meet on a populated server as that. I still wish that you'd add more SAM Abilities.

Discordian of Valor on Midgard, what do you mean we camp Leaping Lizy with a bot? If anyone in our LS camps him its provoking with stnpc or a tab voke.

I'd have to agree, I was completely hyped about getting Samurai when I first got to the level requirement for the quest, however when I picked up the job and played around with it, it seemed lacking...

I love the whole age of samurai and the history surrounding it in real life, hence why I wanted to pick up the job, but in the long run the abilities run out rather quick which makes me kinda sad...

On another note...Kudos to SE for fixing, well I should say attempting to fix the gil seller problem, I noted in one day someone had raised the Ochiudo's Kotes to over 800K on the Phoenix server in a short time, not only that but if you thought the peacock charm at 10mil was bad, last transaction for the charm over on Phoenix was at 20mil when I checked...At least if they do make some sort of difference in the long run for the better then I'm all for it...
