Nothing will do more to ruin the ability of NA and JP players to work together on AF quests more than this update to Allakhazam. Wether or not admins even read the comments posted to their main news updates, they have to understand the chaos and misunderstanding they are creating by completely renumbering the AF quests in a manner that is utterly inconsistent with the traditional numbering schemes:

AF1: Weapon quest, trigger quest for all other AF events.
AF2: First piece of armor, actual quest involving tasks and talking to NPCs, triggers remaining AF quests upon completion (AF3, Dark Spark coffer, normal coffers).
AF3: Typically the final piece of armor (but not always your level 60 piece of armor), often involves a very difficult NM fight (or two or three) and grants the title "Paragon of YourJobHere Excellence"

AF Gloves: The "Dark Spark" coffer. Open a coffer somewhere, trade key item to borghertz, fight Dark Spark, return to jeuno and claim your gloves
Coffer AF (x2): 2 more pieces obtained from coffers. No quest involved beyond starting your "Dark Spark" coffer.

This is how japanese players understand and number and name the AF quests. We ignore this at our peril. Ask a .jp player for help with AF4, AF5 or AF6 and you will get a blank stare. Recuruit for an "Allakhazam AF3" and you are going to get a lot of confused and upset help when you start heading for the "wrong" zone and kill coffer mobs.

Please please please reconsider this change. It's insanity.

I am of course willing to add the "JP title" to the quest information, but it's never made any sense to me why you would number the pieces out of order in the first place, so that is how it will be. I can also take out the "AF#" label on the quest title. Please feel free to submit the JP numbering system for all jobs.

Still, the world is not going to end if it's ranked here differently. There are many ways to ask for help using the translator.

I pretty much concur with Cesium; the WHM AF guide listed in the WHM Job Forum puts it succinctly. Artifact quests have three major parts to them.

AF1, 2, and 3 are sequential story-quests; these are triggered by an NPC, must be done in order, varying requirements to complete.

AF4 is the Borghertz' <whatever> Hands quest. You can start this after you have completed AF1 for your Artifact Weapon. This quest requires finding a coffer key, finding the coffer, doing the assorted stuff in Jeuno to get the quest ready, then killing Dark Spark in Castle Z.

Once AF4 is started, you can do 5 and 6 - or 5.1 and 5.2, depending how you look at it. The two remaining pieces are going to be coffer drops, so you need to find a key and a coffer to match. Coffer AFs cannot be done until you've started AF4/Hands AF, though they can be done before finishing AF4.

The reason for the numbering system is to show what follows from what, sequentially.

AF1 = the start, NPC based.
AF2, AF3 are story-based and flow sequentially from AF1.
AF4 is a coffer hunt, plays out commonly to all jobs
AF5/6 are coffer hunts that require AF4 being started in order to do them.

The system actually makes sense, albeit a kind of twisted, surreal sense. ^^

How about this then. I will label the quest TITLE with the numbering system you went over for the first four. 5 and 6 will be left as just JOB AF with no number. The RANKING on this site however, which really does nothing but put them in order by level on the site, will remain numbered 1-6.

I have it bookmarked because the link from the Game Guides section doesn't seem to work.
