PlayOnline Viewer Update (8/3)

At the following time, we performed a PlayOnline Viewer version update. *The client update will start automatically after connecting to PlayOnline. Please follow the instructions that appear on your screen. [Date & Time] Aug. 3, 2004 2:30 (PDT) [Affected Services] PlayOnline Windows Version [Important Update Details] -Fixed an issue with the PlayOnline Viewer Config in which the "Use Game Pad" option would not work. -Fixed an issue in which the PlayOnline Viewer would mistakenly identify files as being infected with a virus when using certain anti-virus programs. (Windows version only) *Since none of the supposedly "infected" files were actually infected, be sure not to choose the option to delete those files. If you do, you will have to reinstall the PlayOnline Viewer.

Update didn't fix anything.... still trying to open the installer. Does this mean I need to reinstall POL?

SE needs to give us all a free month of game play for this garbage software they are releasing... most of their recent updates have been to fix the previous update bugs =X

EDIT: OK fixed it... for those of you still having problems, try this.

Restart your computer, and put in your POL Install Disk. It'll bring up the autoinstall prompt, just cancel out. Then start up POL viewer, and it should install the files for you, and you will be set.

Major problems

I had all the problems mentioned below, so I also put in my disc and let it copy whatever files it needed, it then wanted to restart the viewer and upon loading it would crash, every time. So I had to uninstall and reinstall POL, but that wipes out ALL of your configuration files (unless maybe you install to a different directory, didn't try that), so now I have to try to find my PlayOnline ID again, which I can't at the moment, and their support lines just give a busy signal and they haven't responded to an email I sent nearly 4 hours ago.
Way to go SE... next time, I dunno, maybe try TESTING a patch before pushing it onto everyone's system?

Well, now I can get PlayOnline open and working, but when I log into the game, I get the downloading screen of death, the chat window, and then it freezes. I cant even Ctrl+Alt+Del out of it! This is just fabulous ><
Problem much the same here

Same kind of problem - asking for the cd, clicking cancel, never loading, not exiting, waiting 2-3 mins and crashing. Ill have to get the CD and try again.

Well I had the same problem so I just put in the PlayOnline disk when it asked for it and it seemed to fix whatever was wrong. I was really annoyed since I had to dig out the disk from the depths of messy room! lol

I have the same problems - but note, you don't need to Ctrl-Alt-Del unless you're in a hurry. If you wait 3-4 minutes POL will eventually minimize with an error.
Same for me

I have the same issue as Trueinfo, and Siknu.

When I start POL, it repeatedly pops up a dialog box asking me to "Install Tetramaster". If I hit Okay, it says that I don't have the appropriate disk, and asks me to select a drive from a drop down box. (The dropdown box has only one option, the number "1") If I hit Cancel about 6 or 7 times, POL will eventually start.

When I exit POL, the screen goes BLACK, and I need to CTRL+ALT+DEL and terminate "pol.exe" in order to exit.

This happens on both my Desktop and my Laptop. Both run Windows XP.

I hope they fix this soon.

This is pretty much what I'm getting to. I haven't been completely locked from the game as others have, but I'm very nervous about losing all my macro's. If I reinstall POL (POS?) will my macro's go to macro heaven?

Perhaps we should compare setups a bit. I have XP Home and I'm running Norton Antivirus (04 I think) Can't think of anything else that would be pertinent.
still messed up

when I start POL, it brings up a prompt to install Tetramaster...if you keep on canceling repeatedly, it will start and you can play normally, but still it is very annoying.

seriously...maybe they did put a tracking device into POL or something lol

It gave me this black screen too then it wanted me to put in the POL/tetramaster CD. I put in the CD and it did something then it was done. No more black screen or asking of the CD. So I would say just do it and get it over with.

I put in the CD but it wouldn't take it. I didn't have time to mess around with it much because I needed to leave for work, but doing the above didn't help for me. I tried each of the cds, 1-4, tried specifying the real path instead of the default "1", and it never found the files it wanted. I'll play with it more when I get home I guess, and contact tech support if I can't make it work...

It's not the 1-4 CDs - It's the PlayOnline Viewer And TetraMaster install CD. The one you have to install before installing FFXI at all.

This update didn't correct the problem the last update gave me: I still have to "retry" connection through POL several time to get in, and once I'm finally in, the game runs in an unplayably laggy manner. Not impressed.

At least you can get into the game...I've been trying since the update, for two days now, and still can't complete the update. Get to step 2 where you download files...it gets to about 15-30% through the first file and gives me some error ><
