Summerfest!

Spring is over and it's time for Summerfest! At this time every year, adventurers gather in the towns to kick back and take a break from their usual daily activities. It is a time for players from all nations to come together and swap tales of their exploits. However, night is when Summerfest really heats up. The ensuing darkness sets the stage for a grand display of fireworks in the sky and on the ground. Countless bazaars line the streets and music fills the air. Adventurers of all shapes and sizes strike up conversations with complete strangers when not dancing hand in hand with their companions. The Moogles, as well, have devoted themselves to making this summer a memorable one. Participate in their events to receive wonderful items that will make your Summerfest even more exciting! Summerfest will be held from Jul. 23 to Aug. 8th, 2004. Experience the sights and sounds of this summer extravaganza in the following locations (from 19:00 to 6:00, Vana'diel time): West Ronfaure East Ronfaure Northern San d'Oria Port San d'Oria North Gustaberg South Gustaberg Bastok Mines Bastok Markets East Sarutabaruta West Sarutabaruta Windurst Waters Windurst Walls Windurst Woods Western Altepa Desert Eastern Altepa Desert Rabao Fireworks will be sold in these areas: West Ronfaure (G-8) South Gustaberg (J-7) East Sarutabaruta (J-7) Rabao (G-9) And finally, the Summerfest Moogles will be waiting for you in: Southern San d'Oria (J-9) Northern San d'Oria (D-8) Bastok Mines (I-9) Bastok Markets (G-8) Windurst Woods (K-10) Windurst Waters (F-5)

It's times like these that you need beer. How can you enjoy togetherness unless you're completely and totally wasted? I can barely stand my imaginary freinds when I'm sober, let alone actual people. Beer should be an in game item! It can lower your other stats and raise your charisma (who doesn't love a drunk?) , or something. As long as it's there, I'll buy it, no matter what it does.
OOOH!!

Ya, as far as I can tell, you will need to win one by doing this goldfish scooping, also, here are the stats on each Yukata.

Onoko Yukata~ Males only. All jobs.
lvl: 1 def: 1

Omina Yukata~ Females only. All jobs.
lvl: 1 def: 1

Lord's Yukata~ Males only. All jobs.
lvl: 1 def: 1
Improves Goldfish Scooping Ability
(possibly HQ of Onoko Yukata?)

Lady's Yukata~ Females only. All jobs.
lvl: 1 def: 1
Improves Goldfish Scooping Ability
(possibly HQ of Omina Yukata?)

Also here are a few stats on items in the most recent update that are probably related to this event, however I am simply guessing these items are related, I do NOT know for sure. These items are now also listed on Mystery Tour.

Goldfish Bowl~ Weapon slot. Rare. EX.
A tiny bowl filled with water. Used for storing goldfish.

Super Scoop~ Weapon Slot. NOT RARE OR EX.
A round, flat scoop used for catching goldfish. The bast parchment on its surface rips easily.

Tiny Goldfish~ Item, not equipt.
This red, minuscule freshwater goldfish from the Far East is often the dinner of larger carnivorous predators.

Black Bubble~ Item, not equipt.
Eye As its name implies, the area around the eyes of this freshwater goldfish from the Far East is round and swollen.

Lionhead~ Item, not equipt.
This freshwater fish from the Far East is plump and difficult to scoop. It is easily recognized by its lack of a dorsal fin.

Festive Fan~ Item, not equipt. (not verified)
Use this large paper fan to cool off when it is hot outside. The Far Eastern character for "festival" is printed on it.

Summer Fan~ Item, not equipt. (not verified)
Use this large paper fan to cool off when it is hot outside. The Far Eastern character for "summer" is printed on it.

Also, the event says there will be fireworks sold, here are what they will probably be as I have not seen these at all in game yet, but they were in the last update.

Konron Hassen~ A firework from a land far to the east.

Kongou Inaho~ A firework from a land far to the east.

Meifu Goma~ A firework from a land far to the east.

All these stats and descriptions were taken from Mystery Tour. http://mysterytour.web.infoseek.co.jp/ffxi/us/

edit: I forgot to add the frieworks.

Here are some pics using the ffxi model viewer showing what the lords and ladys yukatas look like on each race. Also, for thsoe of you who are wondering, gold fish scooping is a type of game done in japan around this time, it involves using a paper net to catch goldfish in this little pool to take them home. The difficult part is that once the paper net touches the water, its basically useless, so you need to be fast and have some skill. Here are a few links to things regarding this event.
Lord's Yukatas for the guys.

Lady's Yukatas for the girls.

And get a program called FRAPS. It lets you take full screen captures (and I've noticed the "Official" FFXI screenshots are dark, FRAPS doesn't have this problem). It's free if you just want to take pictures.

Oooh fun. More fireworks to set off and feel disappointed at. (I mean, what kinda firework just makes a small explosion and rains tiny, hard-to-see sakura petals around you? The butterfly firework is kinda interesting, but dosen't last long... And then the one where it explodes and tiny sparkles... PATHETIC! Gimme good ones that make you look like you're doing Maijin Gakure XD )

Can't wait to see what crazy stuff them Moogles will do this season!
